A random new guy

I usually go by A Random Guy, or some variant of that, but since it's been taken for this site I'm using an old standby screen-name. So you can call me DD (stands for DarkDragon, was my screen-name for most stuff in middle school.)

So anyways, what's up guys? Decided to get back into RS after many years; I player religiously in middle school and quit as a sophomore in high school, but now have decided to try that old addiction again as a college sophomore. I even made a new Lv3 to serve as a new main. I decided to finally go to the dark side and start autoing (let's be honest, who actually likes mining?) and I found this site while looking for some open-source autoing scripts (I don't really trust exe bots, for obvious reasons).

Anyways, I'm 20 from the US (live in NC, go to school at Vanderbilt in TN). Mechanical Engineering major, Computer Science minor (may bump it up to a double major, gotta see if I can fit all the classes in). My first real experience in programming was in an intro to Java course I took, so I guess you could say I'm here for some further experience. For autoing, I use both Simba and RSBot. I'll probably be doing a lot of my programing for RSBot* since I know Java, but I may dabble with Python a little.

As far as gaming goes, I'm mostly an XBL gamer. I would be PC, except my laptop can't run anything more intensive than Minecraft (great game) and I don't really feel like getting a new one any time soon. My GT is II DJ TJ II, and as far as multiplayer goes I mostly play CoD and to a lesser extent Halo; if you ever want to play, I'd be more than happy to oblige. I will also buy, play the **** out of, and love forever anything Bethesda or Bioware makes, period. Also, I play Monster Hunter. I play a LOT of Monster Hunter.

So uh… I guess that's it. I don't usually do a lot of random posting around, but if/when you do hear from me it will usually be something of consequence. I plan to try my hand at script writing over the Christmas break (I celebrate Christmas by the way, I'm Methodist if it matters), so I'll be sure to let you know how that goes.

(Also, I love using parentheses. But I'm sure you've noticed that already.)

*RSBot's community is absolutely horrible, so even if I program for them would it be ok for me to chill out here? :p

We always want newcomers to chill out with us, maybe check out #SRL @ Rizon?

Oh, and welcome!

Always fun to see new people join our community! :)
Theres no problem with programming for RSBot, you'll find that this forum is filled with happy, helping and caring people, and not full of leechers and trolls like other communities ;)

Thanks everyone! I'll try not to be a leech and actually contribute something to the site. I haven't seen many resource dungeon scripts for SRL, so if I decide it's time to learn a second programming language maybe I'll start there. Dunno yet.

Once you know one, you know them all. It really isn't that hard to learn (Is it Pascal? Or Delphi?) to make scripts for Simba, if you already know some other language.

It's Pascal :) (Or PascalScript would be more precise I think)
And as Frement said, it's extremely easy to learn

Excellent, once my exams are over I'll see if I can find a good beginner's guide for Pascal. Now all I need is a reason to make a script. Necessity is the mother of invention and all that.

I hear simple WCing scripts are easy to make, would that be a good starting point? Or what would you recommend?

Welcome aboard. I look forward to seeing great things from you. Even if it is just another nice mannered member around here (pretty great in my opinion). From your posts thus far it seems you're very level headed, intelligent, and eager to learn.
I think there is another mechanical engineering student around here….I'm a senior in Civil Engineering. I also think there are a few electrical and computer engineering students around too.

Yes, woodcutters are a great starting point.
Start with a powerchopper (chops and drops the logs) then move onto choppers that uses walking later on when you've read some tutorials on walking :)

I'm not sure if I have to say this but don't worry if you don't get everything at first. Asking is never a problem :)

There is an entire tutorial island section for you to learn different Simba specific scripting methods, as I'm sure that a general pascal tutorial would do you little good.

If you need help, you're welcome to add my msn (send a private message at me if you want it) and I'll gladly help.

You'll find that scripting for RSBot is actually easier since you know the main parts of Java, however the bot has been known to be more detectable from the point of view of many knowledgeable people around here. If you're looking for undetectable botting, you should script Simba ;)

E: I also can't remember who it is in Mechanical Engineering, but as a point of interest I'm taking Chemical Engineering :)

I decided what the heck, I'll start learning Pascal. When in Rome and all. I've read a few of the guides on here (most notably Griff721's on cutting a tree), and I think I'm getting the hang of it. Is there anywhere I could find lists of the available functions/methods/procedures in SRL and Reflection, aside from looking through each file in the Includes folders?

Open up simba, then make sure you include reflection and srl then just press ctrl + space and voila! you get all the functions/procs/constants in SRL/reflection

Much appreciated. That ought to make this a world easier.
