Poll: Bad Boy JH to Ref Developer

Cstrike

2010-12-07 20:21:58

This poll is to vote Bad Boy JH into a position of reflection developer.

Examples of his work:
R_GetCurrentTab
Debug ObjectID
R_WithdrawItemID
R_DemonDoCommand
Pinball Random Fix

PROS:
- Uses IRC
- Shows solid knowledge of the core
- Helped with randoms
- Has been helping out before I even made the app thread which shows this isn't because I posted the thread
- Decent standards, sometimes may be a bit off but that would be spacing

CONS:
None that I can think of at the moment

I feel he is a good applicant. He was true from the start, is willing to help and does frequent the forum and IRC. This is all during finals time too! Impressive if you ask me.
I made this thread because he asked me to, and I agreed. I have already turned down one applicant for the time being, I do not make threads like this lightly.

What do you think?
I will not vote until there is some discussion, unless no discussion happens then I will make my vote.

Nothing looks particularly noteworthy to me, but if you guys just want some more people with access to the repository and these forums, that's all right with me. I think what the include really needs, though, is more people with knowledge of the client. I don't think that's a very reachable goal unless people come out of the blue and want to help out SRL for some reason.

How could we get that? I do agree that we are quite limited in this area and it's going to be a noose around our necks until we get more people like that, it's just a matter of finding them and getting them over here.

It seems that most people who get to the level that you speak of will usually make their own bots or join another huge project than come here. We're very fortunate to have pyroryan updating our hooks so much :)

Though as you said this application is based off of coding ability versus client knowledge.

Beats me. I stuck around because I started with SCAR and it was natural for me to help the reflection include grow and survive.

What made you interested in coming (back?) to SRL, pyroryan?

Naike asked me to support reflection hook-wise. So I returned :)

I…. never saw anything that would stir my interest in reflection…?

I'm not against it, but I never found a way to have fun understanding the client sort of thing?

With colour it's obvious, it's to auto runescape, but I don't know what the grand possibilities of reflection are?

Cus if I can do anything in colour, why would I use reflection?

(I do it for the challenge, not the scripts)

What I mean to ask is…. what is the greatest thing reflection could do?

Why is reflection so great?

What sort of control over runescape does it give me?

I can get the perfect location of anything I need. Fine. Colour can give me the same, just not as easily.

Basically what I'm looking for is something that reflection can do that colour can't.

Can I tell if I'm in multiway combat?

Could I use it to place myself in safe spots and analyses the enemies' tile to know whether I should run or not?

What information can reflection give me?

Like if I'm reading the client, what 'types' are there?

what other interesting things are there?

Reflection is a more powerful tool than colour. For me to get interested, I'd need something that colour would never allow me.

Still.. yet again, nothing noteworthy.

Currently, we've got few devs. So I'm in support.

Edit:
Maybe temporary dev? Or something like that?

Temporary dev sounds like a bad idea.

PS: I don't always follow all the forums. Be sure to PM me or report the post if you need anyone promoted to anything

@RM as far as reflection doing things that color can't do. Access every single variable inside the runescape client. Animation IDs for example.
