Alright, well cstrike brought this up in the
What does SRL smoke? thread, and it brought up many points I wanted to bring up, so I figured why not?
For him:
From: cstrike
I have no problem with smoking (as long as I don't get ill from it), but one reason I don't do it is that I don't want to die of lung cancer, as cancer itself is IMO among the top of the worst diseases to die from on planet earth next to chemical torture (specifically because of the long decline, like HIV… and the only current medicine is torture in itself). Even testimonies from patients [who are now dead] say that the medicine eventually doesn't even offset the pain as cancer grows and crushes everything in your body.
Would it be worth such a death? My choice would be 80 years of a decent life than 40 years amazing with a terrible end, but that's just me.
Now, I have a similar view on life as Dervish (I'd rather live a short and fun life than a long and boring life, worrying about everything and not doing anything very risky), and I think this is a very interesting topic.
I was talking to Claw about this for a good while this morning, and so I'm a bit tired out on my views, but essentially, my reality differs from yours, which differs from everyone else's. So what is right for me is right for me; happiness through change is right for me because of how I grew up (homeless, going from home to home, tricking people into thinking my mom and I were somehow related to them, then leaving in the middle of the night randomly, taking some food and stuff), and so I've been thinking about leaving for the next year or so and just traveling the country and seeing what's out there for me. :) I really do plan on it, and possibly sometime soon, but Claw made me think about waiting until I'm at least done with high school, but I dunno; by then I'd have a job and shit so I'd be less likely to really.
Anyway, the main question about this thread is just how and why do you live life? Why don't you kill yourself? Why do you stay where you are? Why do you enjoy life? :)
(And, a cstrike-specific question; would you rather die young with a fun life, even with a terrible death, or live long and have a boring life and die easily/peacefully? Why?)

I enjoy life because it has so many opportunities.
I want to be a Philosophy major, a Psych major, I want to be a musician, or maybe a social worker. I'm interested in business, and politics. I want to see the world. I want to bike across my country. I want to get piss drunk and do something stupid. I want to make a difference in a third world country. I want to climb everest, and I want to pee for more than 60 seconds. I'm going to run a Marathon, and I'm going to go heli-snowboarding. Im going to scuba dive the Great Barrier Reef.
I want to find my nirvana

I wake up every morning feeling like crushing dreams. I guess you could say it's why I exist… Nothing like the exhilaration, the thrill, the ORGASMIC JOY, of seeing someone who just realized everything they hoped to accomplish is far above them. It's these moments of candid, hopeless existence that I will cherish for the rest of my days.
By the way, most of America sucks. Save yourself the trouble.

It's not about if wherever I am sucks, it's about living life in every way I can. I feel privileged that I got to live how I did as a kid. Not everyone gets the chance to live like that, and so I want to try living life how other people do. Homeless, in Texas, in New York, in a really nice house, etc. I want to buy a house, a car, get a job, buy groceries, do taxes, make drugs, grow weed, have my name known, be in the news, etc.
I wanna do everything I can in life and live every way I can.

i live life to get and find my "high" in life (not drug related)

Nice thread :)
To answer:
(And, a cstrike-specific question; would you rather die young with a fun life, even with a terrible death, or live long and have a boring life and die easily/peacefully? Why?)
Personally I seem to be lucky obtaining really crap things that happen to me. I've been through a lot of pain and I'm just tired of it, but I've got another probably 60+ years on this planet to continue enduring (or enjoying to be optimistic). There's been times with this temporary thing I have where I no longer feared death. I used to be hardcore Christian by family raising, in fact even went to a catholic school and high school. At around grade 10 I was ready to dump the notion of Christianity, and did so, becoming agnostic. Christianity left me with the thought of afterlife and what there is. It was a bit discomforting to think of eternal nothingness… until recently.
After going through constant shitty moments for quite a stretch of time, there were days where I thought "you know, eternal nothingness isn't so bad, no pain… just freedom", which makes me feel much more comfortable with myself. Of course I still fear dying, but the concept of death doesn't bother me anymore.
Though dying does, and I'd be quite happy for euthanasia. I'm a really strong supporter of the concept of euthanasia, but there's always going to be selfish people who try and get others killed to gain money, and then there's the whole line of death issue… so I feel that it won't be completely accepted for a while. I feel that with our technology, we can finally exit this planet peacefully instead of slowly decaying into nothingness. A long time ago death would usually come as we get weaker and then ran into an animal that would kill us for food. Death would be quick, suck, but at least be quick (for the most part, of course not always). Nowadays, it seems to be that you go as long as you can until you forget everything or some disease slowly takes your life. I personally don't find that pleasant, and look forward to whatever waits us after life itself, whether it be a perfect afterlife where we come down to experience life again and again (which IMO would suck, tired of this place), or nothing.
Thing is though, if anything the tribulations I went through made me want to more than ever to live. So many things I want to experience, so many things I want to contribute to on planet Earth, so what I went through was necessary for my growth. The only problem is that I fear dying will bring up all the horrible stuff I've gone through and more. I'd be content with a life that is normal, nothing exclusively special and fade into nothingness peacefully and painlessly, rather that enjoy an amazing life but die terribly.
Do I want the best of both worlds? Of course!
Anyway, the main question about this thread is just how and why do you live life? Why don't you kill yourself? Why do you stay where you are? Why do you enjoy life?
Live life for the sensual pleasure, don't kill myself to experience, stay where I am so I can make others enjoy what I want to enjoy. Sadly isn't it all based on dopamine?
EDIT: Since I didn't really read it over and connect some haphazard points I apologize for conflicting stuff, you may find me clearing up my errors next post, but I g2g for now

I don't plan to die. I don't know when it'll happen, so I don't really make plans for it :p
I aim to live a happy, balanced daily life. Balance does not mean a boring life, it means one that I can live longterm.
eg I don't go drinking 10 pints everyday because that would crush my liver, but it doesn't mean that I don't do it every now and then.
I'm a smoker… and that reduces life expectancy… but even if I were to die at 40 (meaning in 20 years time) I can expect medicine to be much further than it is now. Our knowledge advances at an unbelievable pace, and therefore science might still come on time to save my lungs from any real disaster :)
I plan as if I'd live forever, I plan as if I could achieve any plan I want in my lifetime… and then I start out on those plans, slowly turning them into reality as time goes.
The day I day I hope to say 'I succeeded in my plans'. And hopefully they're good ones, so I'll die happy and leave a good memory to those around me :)

Or so most think.
If you truly believe in evolution, technology, and physics, you'll see throughout the timeline some very specific and strange things have happened, which in a normal world you wouldn't even think is possible.
EDIT: Oh, forgot… let's see what's my ideology on life… that's a hard one to sum up without boring the shit out of everyone.
Let's put it this way, most people live their live by living the past or living for the future, I do neither of those because I know that if I live the past I'll only live in regrets, and if I live for the future the future will never come. I've come to realize that only the actions in the present will reflect my future so I'm working toward that, It's much more in-depth than that but I don't feel like writing a novel here, nor do you feel like reading one.

This sounds a lot like the novel I'm reading; "Into the wild." It's about a guy who ditches his life, burns all his money…..and then ends up discovered by a group of moose hunters decaying in the alaskan forest.
Don't let that deter you though! The novel is pretty awesome, describing all the adventures Chris McCandless (the protagonist of the novel) experienced while on his journey, and all the people he inspired along the way. It's a non-fictional story. Check it out sometime if you haven't read it already. :)

Drugs are a very relevant topic, in my opinion. So as long as the staff's fine with it, I'm fine with it. ;)
I do drugs to experience life how users of those drugs do. I've never spent any of my own money on drugs or drug related things; I've only given my money away, actually. They aren't important enough to me to spend my time and work to do them. That being said, I still enjoy them. I don't care if anyone else does drugs or if they are going to shorten my life (they expand my understanding of different perspectives on life, which is important to me, so I think it's a trade off which people make; I chose understanding alternative perspectives), I just want to do what I enjoy.
I know it's different for you, Nike, but something important to me is understanding life as other people experience it. I want to know how a meth addict feels every day and night and what he goes through in the average day. I want to know what it's like to be in jail and to steal everyday just to survive and to be spit on for being considered filth, and sell drugs and go to bars and run from the cops and be in the news and write a book and do something important and worthwhile to at least one person, and then make what I can of life and have a family and a job and pay taxes and loans and insurance and worry about my children being home and safe and having a good life.
I just want to understand every way life happens.
Life is amazing. It's unimaginably, unbelievably, astronomically perfect. I cannot express how beautiful and precious and fulfilling every single aspect of life is, but I assure you, no matter what happens, you and everyone else are the luckiest beings to ever exist and be given such a divine chance at life. Live it up and don't take for granted that you get the outstandingly awesome opportunity you have.

I used to use a lot of drugs and had the same opinion on living life short yet fun. Sadly it wasn't as fun as I thought and actually led to a lot more stress in my life.
I am not anti-drug by any means, I am a huge advocate on free will and a hardcore libertarian. I just don't understand how you can say that taking a substance that we don't normally need is experiencing life. After going through drug treatment, I felt like I entered a completely new world. I had forgotten what experiencing life really was

If you are being serious about your first post on saying how you spend absolutely no money on drugs then thats awesome, I wish I could have used like that. If you want to experience all that which I just quoted, then realize that your chances of turning your life around from a meth addict into what you later describe in the quote(having a family and living a normal life) is extremely slim after you become a meth addict. If you really want to experience what it is like to be a meth addict deep in a addiction, you might be clinically insane. I understand what you mean by you want to experience life in different ways, but seriously that might be taking it a bit far.
I don't know how old some of you are, but once I got out of high school, I missed how simple life was and since then have been trying to take it easy and just slow down and enjoy life. I don't get too caught up in thinking about how different things could be and just accept things for what they are and try not to go too far out of my way to change things that are beyond my control.

Then again, I'm only 18 and many of my views are still naive. The difference is I am aware of it and not so closed-minded.
I remember thinking all 'drugs' were bad and would kill me/make my life miserable/label me an addict. You learn to grow up and think for yourself rather than following the views of others.
I do take hallucinogens such as psilocybin and salvia and sometimes marijuana if I have enough to experience something. All of them are eye openers. It makes you think differently about the world, even understand it better. You can experience many emotions/feelings just by opening a door. You can pretty much experience anything through your mind. Hallucinogens pull away the limiters put in place so you can move freely between thoughts. Meditation is the same, it just takes a lot more practice to find the limiters and move past them.
Bashing on something you've never experienced is a very bad habit. Life is about experience. We as humans, our senses thrive for stimulation. We like things that smell, look, feel nice. Then we have love, hate, anger, anxiety. Some are bad, some are not so bad - some are fucking amazing. That is all life is about. My life that is.
Everyones life is whatever they want it to be about. There is no set guide on how to fulfill your life. You fulfill your life by 'experiencing' and completing your goals.
Expanding on what I feel life is about - experiencing. For me, I think life is about taking in as much as possible, every emotion.. good or bad. Every sensation, nasty or pleasant. Just after getting into a big argument you will feel a mix of emotions - from these emotions your mind will learn to organise them and understand them. That is why it hurts. Your mind is analysing them. Same for any situation. So if you experience them all, you can truly say you understand life.
I'm going to China in January to study Shaolin Buddhism (martial arts/Meditation) I will hopefully experience a lot of new things here that I can then learn from and move on.
That's it really… just live life. However you want to live life :)

Zota, your ideas on life are very similar to mine, which is why I think leaving would be a good idea. Good in the sense I'd experience life which is very important to me, but bad in the sense that I'd miss my friends/family, miss out on possible jobs, and leaving would be dangerous (especially alone). But I'm glad you pointed the good/bad emotions and what not; to me, any emotion is good, be that depression, ecstasy, or hate. While I understand that at the time they may not be good, could lead to bad things or stupid decisions, etc., there's never been a time when I experienced any emotion (strongly, as one can't ever be absent of emotion) that I didn't appreciate afterwards.
