Web crawlers must have a built in script to create accounts now. To access more parts of forums :)
But if activity is really going up, then thats great!

Sorry let me be more accurate then.

I don't think 128 days is a good period if you want to look at recent activity. Take the last two weeks or so.

C1 is users C2 is days.

Okay then the average activity grow over the last 2 weeks is 1.294 per day. Thats not significant enough to actually call growth.

It sure is growth, just over a different period. I think 128 days not a good period when you're looking at recent growth. Much like using a history of 4 years. You'd probably say activity went down then too, even though it may have been going up for a few months. :)

It actually does.

SRL has been in negative growth
SRL is now in positive growth

That is why the change is so apparent.

1.2% might not be much, but as it is coming from a 'recession' it actually makes a big change to the chart.

;)

And I can tell you more: the day we reached 0% (minimal) growth per day was the day the average growth and the minimal growth lines crossed.

That means that from that day on we have entered a trend of having more activity than the previous day, and more activity than what the long-term trend would lead you to expect.

Finally, a trend is analysed by it's peaks.
An average gives you very little detail about anything.

Its not really apparent though.

And thats 1.294 users per day. If you want a percentage that is ~0.733%

We may be in a small upward trend for the time being, but it is not large enough a trend to be sustained. Small meaning a variance of 9.254 users over the last 4 months and 10.322 over the last 2 weeks.

Point being right now we are growing.
Whether the trend is sustained it will depend on if we keep on growing or not..

Activity is going up :) That's all I care about for now :p

Whether we end up growing 3% per year
or 5% per year, doesn't really mater until we are actually growing by that much.

We were on negative growth and now we are back in growth. We just have to keep it that way :)

IMO, opening the door to the OpenGL world is the best way to attract (smart) users. It's a whole new field that hasn't yet been explored. Whether this involves creating a whole new bot based around OpenGL "interception"? I don't know.

You have to stop using Injection as a synonym for packets etc as everyone recognizes Injection as injecting accessor methods into the client…

Tniffoc

2010-12-16 17:54:28

Also, when I mention SRL online, people say "EWW SCAR". Because, yes, we had memory problems, and scripts were buggier than the injection (n3ss3s' meaning of injection) bots.

What we need to do if find a way to provide a stable platform, like possibly Simba, or maybe an OpenGL bot, to provide the image that we have a solid foundation.

So, for the time being, the best thing we can do to help the rising trend in membership is to get the word out about Simba. Don't say its the new SCAR. Just say that SRL has a new bot, Simba.

inb4 Freddy-rage, so no offense Freddy, not saying SCAR was bad at all, in fact, I loved it. I'm just saying that it (partially due to the fact that it was the pure color age for us) yielded less reliable results than the alternatives.

Having an OpenGL based bot would also allow us to utilize the multitude of C/C++ programmers out there that don't know pascal or Java.

That was the least organized post in history, but w/e.

Just a suggestion:
How about make spam bots to sit at the GE or Lumbridge all day and spam SRL's name all over? One downside though is that it might SRL a bit of a bad name. However, there is of course the upside of an increased number of members.

I would agree with not spamming SRL everywhere, and I would also agree that opening the door to C/C++ users would increase our attractivness to a broader scripter spectrum!! Plus its what I'm learning in school.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. While spamming SRL would get us absolutely nowhere, spamming villavu would net us a huge amount of leechers.

If I were to spam something, it would be mysterious and unsearchable - something along the lines of SRL is NINJA.

What is wrong with having leechers, they don't HARM the community, they just don't contribute.

2011-02-16 18:08:58

Yea, the leachers would grow… but to me that is why it is important to somewhat distinguish between registered/jr/mems/sr/dev - keeping a few working scripts to everybody who doesn't contribute in any way. and working their way up through community. As such, it would better promote villavu as a spot on the web and promote learning and helping to have access to better things… no, leacher's aren't great… but the activity starts somewhere.

And not letting leechers in cuts out a large percentage of potential contributors.

We are neither stopping nor cutting them out. We just don't want a mass influx of the wrong kind of leechers nor a target painted on our back by spamming our name across runescape for all of jagex to see.

Agree. I'm not that active anymore, but SRL seems like a place where bad spammers and leechers haven't infiltrated. We actually have contributing members, and the leechers don't make much of a difference.
