Buying and Fixing Broken Consoles from Ebay? + Other Questions

I've been browsing ebay a lot recently and noticed a lot of people sell broken/damaged Nintendo DS and PSP systems for very cheap.

Is it common for people to buy these, buy replacement parts, fix them, and resell for profit?

Seems like a pretty easy way to earn a few bucks, do any of you have experience with it?

ALSO: Where do all of the people/ebay shops get their merchandise from!? Some sellers sell hundreds spare parts for handled systems like replacement screens, cases, buttons, etc, I'm familiar with tons of China based websites that do this, are these ebay shops pretty much the same thing? Or maybe they are people buying in bulk from China websites and reselling for profit?

Oh cool thank you, that's pretty neat. Do the sellers have a 'contract' with the whoseller, or do they just buy it from their website for a cheaper price than they sell it to you for?

We all know 99% of that crap comes from Dealextreme. They even offer a dedicated dropshipping service (ebay orders at you, you order at Dx and enter their adress). No labels, no prints, no receipts.

Does anyone know any sites similar to DealExtreme?
I love dealextreme and have bought many things from them, but they are sold out of GENUINE SHARP PSP Screens:

Know anywhere else I could buy a legit one like that?

They are also selling a cheaper off-brand version which I'm planning to buy if I can't find the real deal:

I'm thinking of buying PSP/DS systems with broken screens, repairing, and reselling over my winter break, seems easy enough and semi-profitable…

Hmm they seem to be on amazon
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000QNRGJE/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new
But lots of sellers just claim that they are Genuine SHARP Screens and just send out the off-brand ones….

you also don't know if there is anything else wrong with it beside the screen, but that's a risk of business.
good luck :)

Yeah, that is true, but most of the descriptions are pretty clear they say something like powers on, holds charge, audio and games work, cracked screen. And usually if anything else is wrong they say so, so I just have to trust them!

Seems like a fun way to make a few bucks, I'll try it out and see how it goes, so many plans for my 1 month off woo!

It actually does sound like a profitable business. I know endless classic autoshop business' that do it; they'll find barn cars that are rusted out pieces of junk, buy 'em for roughly 4,000, fix it up, and then sell it back for anything from 20-50k.

I don't know how well the market works for game consoles, but if it's anything like cars, check the math first. You could end up spending more money fixing it an only get so much back in return that you actually lose money. I've talked to people that invested $60,000 into restoring vintage camaro's only to get 20K from the buyer.

But once again, gaming console's are not my area, so I can't say if it will work or not. If you haven't already done so, find out what consoles sell for on ebay & other online trading stores and see what condition they're in, and then find out how much it costs to repair such a console.

I think it will work, seeing as the car market varies on economical factors, such as the prices gas and oil. A gaming console just has to work, period.

Hope that helps and good luck :)
