My Priorities (TO-DO List)

This is more of a reminder for myself, but I'd like to share it with all of you. If you have the time to do a little work (even one function or two) please do and post it here. Also, if you already have code written for something on the list, again, please post it (or a link to it) here. Thanks. :)

Green = Current project(s).
Red = Haven't made any progress from what was done since I wrote this thread.
  1. Reorganizing Objects.simba
  2. Basically the idea is to make it much more accurate, debug it better (including SMART debugging). Any details on the progress of this project can be found in this thread, or on a separate branch at github.
  3. MSI Form V2.0
  4. The new form will be much more user-friendly and have many more features. It will also be expandable as more things are added to MSI. Detailed thread here, or on github.
  5. Rewriting/organizing Fishing.simba
  6. Right now the object finding and WaitWhileFishing doesn't work the best. It get's the job done, but it could be greatly improved. I'm not exactly sure on the best way to go about doing it yet, but I'll cross that road when I get there. There are no threads currently discussing this (to my knowledge).
  7. Magic.simba & Progress Report
  8. I'm going to get a working alcher done and leave it like that. Other scripts will be easy (not as easy as our current skills) to add. This is actually very close to being done. In order for Magic to work properly, I need to rewrite how the progress report works. All my plans can be found in the original thread. We are now just working to get the bugs fixed, but a perfectly working alcher should be up and running very soon. :)
  9. Obstacle Handling
  10. Since RM has done most of the hard work, this shouldn't be difficult. I will also make the records for a Guild Miner and Guild Fisher, which I think should be released to Members (like RM's other thread suggested). I was also thinking about an Essence Miner, should it be release to members only? Any progress with Obstacle Handling can be found on this thread.
  11. MSI Documentation
  12. This is something that came to my mind after seeing what Wizzup had done with the SRL 5 documentation. This will negate the need for core tutorials on the forums, and everything will be done through the function headers. Of course, when I get the time I will show you guys some examples to make sure everyone is on board, but I'm pretty sure you'll all love it. :)
  13. MSI Form
  14. I've been working on this a lot lately and now that Dgby has committed some new functions to Simba, we'll be able to run MSI from a TMenuItem on the next Simba release. The form will be done in the next few days (in testing stages at the very least), plus I'm hoping to talk to Wizzup about getting the documentation all setup so we can all start updating the function/script headers in MSI. It's done now, but I'll be making updates as the bugs and suggestions come in.
  15. Extensions
  16. The msi.sex extension will also be "officially" released when I can get the form done (maybe sooner, we'll see). Things are going to get extremely easy to new users. :) Thanks to Dgby, we'll be able to use these extensions to run MSI from a TMenuItem. :)
  17. Tutorial/Forum Updates
  18. After the smith400's threads in the MSI Help Section (nice addition, RM ;)), I realized that my How-to Guide to MSI Scripting isn't very descriptive to those newer to scripting; therefore, I'm going to work on updating that in the next couple days (along with various bug fixes that come up). The Supported Locations threads should be better explained such as showing which scripts have color walking. There are also various threads that need updating.

  19. Running MSI from a TMenuItem
  20. This is an idea I came up with a while ago and the feedback I've gotten hasn't been anything but positive. Basically, I would like to have an MSI menu item where you click and the form pops up. Any information about if this is possible has been discussed here. This is done and works in the newest Simba with the msi.sex extension that comes with it. Thanks to Dgby for everything. :)
  21. General Include Organization
  22. While adding Magic I came across a lot of things that could be done better (or at least better orgainzed). Things like adding to the progress report, setting false reasons, and some misplaced functions. If anyone notices anything, please post it here. :)
    • MSI_AddToProggy could probably be removed or at least written in a much better way.
    • MSI Efficiency (thanks for bringing that up, RM). Checking to see if there are any unnecessary calling of functions/setting of variables.
    • MSI Linearity. I'll probably talk to RM more about this. Basically MSI should continue with the next task even though it didn't detect that is passed the previous.
    • Our item finding and clicking functions should be written to work with ANY search box, rather than just the TBank options.
  23. Last but not least - The MSI Core TO-DO List.

I'll update the list as I get things done. Oh, and by the way, don't be afraid to take some of these off my hands. ;)

Alcher has now been released. :)

RM, if I could get everything you have pertaining to obstacle handling that would be great.

Moved Reflection down the list as the form is really close. I'd like to get that done first. It will be my current project until I can get all the obstacle code from RM. :)

Updating Obstacle Handling. What do you think about adding an Essence Miner, and only releasing the record for Members along with a Guild Miner and Guild Fisher?

E: Added Multiple Script Support.

Sounds great. Essence miner might be a lot of work tho, it'd need some time.

It wouldn't be nearly as fast as the guilders'

I don't think it would be very hard if we just took all the points in which you teleport to mine the ess and made them relocation points. Everything else is just an obstacle.

Essence miner to SRL Members+??
I don't really like that… I agree on Guild Miner / Fisher, but Essence miner would become one of the most used scripts… :/

Let's get it done first, and think about who to release it to later.

Always easier to delay a problem if you don't have to solve it in that moment.

Yes, an Essence Miner will be a little more work, so let's worry about it when the obstacles are actually done. :)

I think it should at least start in Members, since it should be such a popular script. It's time our members start gaining some benefits they deserve. ;)

Also, added Walking and Automatically Updating Records.

Hey,

I know we haven't talked in a while, but I was wondering if I could get some advise regarding MSI.

It's not that I've lost interest (although it has decreased), but I feel like MSI is more of a job than something I do for fun in my spare time. I'm much more interested in expanding my programming knowledge into other languages like Java or Python, but I feel like MSI is holding me back. Scripting with Simba and SCAR has taught me how to think and problem solve through logic, but I feel like there's nothing more I can learn. Sure, there are always new ideas, but that's just repeating concepts I already know. I'm not learning anything new; it's getting very repetitive.

I am starting to feel like I have to work on MSI, and that's not what it's about. I already don't have much spare time as it is, but I want to know what you think of this plan.

I'm going to concentrate a lot more on "Leading" MSI rather than being an "MSI Programmer". What I mean by this is worry less about what features need to be added and more about community involvement, so we can hopefully get more people interested so someone can take my place, or at least start to give me that impression (a lot like you did with me).

We need more SLs. There are some people I think may be able to be SLs, but I'm not exactly confident letting people work on the include. This may sound selfish, but I feel like MSI is mine and I don't want anyone working on it. That is exactly the kind of attitude that lead me to write this message. You and I both know that I've done a lot of code for MSI, but I shouldn't want to me the only one updating it; after all, it's not mine, it's the communities.

So basically, I'm going to be spending my spare time on the forums rather than writing code for MSI. In other spare time I want to learn Python as I hear a lot of good things about it (mostly from Nava :p), plus I think it would be neat to help work on the Python side of Simba/SRL. I think it's time that I "evolve" to something "better". I also hope that this change allows me to properly use my Mod and Developer ranks for SRL. Since MSI started, it's been MSI, MSI, MSI; I haven't done anything for SRL. I think it's time that changed. Of course, I won't forget about MSI, but it's time for me to "move on".

I will be updating and maintaining the MSI forum (this includes tutorials), so we can make it extremely easy for users to become SLs. I am also going to make a thread in the SL section about a few people who could possible me SLs.

Anyway, I wanted to tell someone what I was thinking. :) I realize I didn't really ask a question for you to give advise to, but oh well. :p

Cheers,
Cohen

Just so everyone knows I wont be doing much coding for MSI that doesn't involve fixing bugs. So please feel free to take over the projects on my list. :)
