I currently use Ubuntu (newest version :)) and do not dual boot.

I love ubuntu!

I dual boot Vista and 7. I want to change the Vista to XP but am having trouble with reformatting the Vista HD.

My vista is on a 250GB hard drive original to the computer.
The windows 7 is on a 1TB hard drive I put in myself.

I use Debian Squeeze with KDE. I also have windows 7 installed but only for school. When I get a new computer, I'll hopefully have one which supports better virtualization than my current one. That way I can stick with full Linux :)

Windows vista, unfortunately. The new computer I'm building will have 7, and I'm planning to upgrade this vista to 7 within a couple of weeks.

Ubu is also on this laptop, and the desktop will have it too.

kvm should work with all modern kernels? Or is the debian one too old… ;)

I have Windows 7 on my gaming/school computer, the one I am on right now. But, I have Gentoo Linux on my Linux box and have a monitor switch to switch between the two depending on what I am doing.

I would like to do that, although I love ubuntu, Winblows 7 does have its advantages. Is it easy to do even if I have ubuntu already fully installed?

It's not as easy as having Win7 installed first, but it's doable. I've never done Ubu -> Ubu + Win7. Only Win7 -> Win7 + Ubu.

I've had Win7 taking up 215GB of space and haven't used the partition in about a month. >_< But I do need to keep it for work (I really can't do WP7 software stuff on Ubuntu, afaik.. :/).

KVM has nothing to do with processors. So assuming you're not talking about Virtualisation extensions there can be no issue with running virtualised hosts. Even if it was only a 50 Mhz processor.

currently use 7, I have been through all the windows from 3.1 all the way to 7. My sister, who I am currently staying with (holidays woo!) has a mac, which I do love, even if I can't game on it. I wouldn't pay the extra to get a mac computer, I would (if I could) install the mac operating system on my computer at home however…

Tiny7.

I have Ubu (9.04 I think?) on a separate partition, clearly haven't used that in a while…

The issue lies in my hardware. I cannot load the module for KVM. It is not a fault of the operating system, but a fault of the hardware.

Also, from your previous notion: the debian kernel is updated before the ubuntu kernel.

I'm really not sure why you are so hostle towards debian >.>

I'm not hostile towards Debian? Except for the fact that they utterly suck as desktop distribution. I didn't call anyone a "noob" for not knowing that my hardware is damaged, anyway.

I dualboot Win7 and Ubu.
I use Win7 for gaming, and Ubu for the rest (If I care to restart the comp)

Why do they suck as a desktop distribution? :|

I'm still getting used to Debian, but its already a much smaller install than ubuntu which is why I switched. I don't like the extras that come with ubuntu and I don't care to remove them all myself.

KDE vs. GNOME is not really a discussion here because its mostly just a preference thing now. They both have similar functionality.

I'd say that if you want to totally customize your desktop then arch or gentoo are the best choice. (Gentoo is obviously better, if you don't mind compiling for nights and configuring even longer)
Debian is just…. debian. They always use ``stable'' software (iow three years old) unless you use their unstable branch. I just generally don't like their backports system for getting newer packages. You could say the same about ubuntu but at least they release new packages every half a year… Perhaps I'm just an apt noob.

Windows man, born and raised.

In the computer room was where you spent most of your days?
chillin' out, maxing, relaxing all cool?
shootin' some nazi zombies outside of the school?
when a couple of guys, they were up to no good?
started making people use Ubuntu in your neighborhood?
you got in one fanboy flame, and your mom got scared?
And she said you're moving with your auntie and uncle in Toronto?

You tried to get a download, and when it came near?
the checksum was wrong and there were no mirrors?
If anything you could tell that this DL was infected?
but you thought man, forget it, "yo, im gonna download this!"

Anyways, technically I have xp, and 7, but i didnt buy 7 and apparently installed an update that made it unusable for that fact. I was planning on trying out arch cuz it looked cool, but i've already used up all the primary partitions on this hd, and im much too lazy to change things around. I suppose I can just wait until I get another HD

At least he didn't rhyme a word with the same word. I hate when the pros do that.

I run LinuxMint on 3 desktops, LinuxMint on 1 desktop/sever/htpc, and XP on an EEEPC and a couple VMs for work.

I wasn't trying to rhyme, but to change the song to apply to the situation kinda. Rhyming would have taken a lot more than 6 minutes.

Has anyone tried, that errr…version of XP that is supposed to change up the calls to stuff to make it more linux intercompatible. I may not know what Im talking about, but that's about the gist of what I thought it was.
