Black Ops is coming out tomorrow.
Tomorrow! Finally.

I know that tomorrow != today, but I just wanted to be the one to start the discussion thread about it. :p (It gives me this warm, fuzzy, cozy feeling..)

.. discuss? Expectations, thoughts, comments, ect.


Oh, and I'm signed up for a Black Ops tournament, competing for a copy of the Prestige Edition. I know it's silly to be nervous for such an occasion, but I am so nevertheless; I just played an couple hours of CoD5 (W@W) and I really didn't feel like I did particularly well.. So it would be of significant help if any of you who already have tried the game, could give me some general tips, if possible, on how to potentially perform better. (This probably sounds pretty stupid, but meh.) All I know is that I'll probably be competing in a free-for-all-match, using the standard classes. (And standard sensetivity :() So.. maybe a short description of the starting classes at least? Would be really nice.. :redface:

I am waiting for Steam to unlock the exes :(

if it was me personally id start with the smg class, it seems all round for med to close range, which in free-for-all, you might be in

Will you play it on PC? (since you mentioned the sensitivity I guess you're on XBOX)

I haven't ordered it yet since my graphic card is at the minimum requirements for the game, so I'll try it out first, and if it's will work OK, I'll probably buy it. My expectations on it… I really don't think it will be all that people expect from it. The weapons probably won't be that balanced as everyone is predicting (I at least hope there won't be noob tubes), but the new game modes in online, new player customization and maps should make it interesting :) Plus we get dedicated servers so I hope there won't be that many lagg issues ;)

This release is also the worst possible timing for me. Got like 4 exams this week ffs… :(

Perhaps merge of all of the topics that I and Senna have made into this one?

EDIT: About you asking for tips. It seems as though the general sensitivity has been lowered. Eg: 3 on BO feels like 2 on MW2.
Killstreaks I'd recommend: UAV, Napalm Strike, Attack Helicopter, Chopper Gunner, Dogs, Gunship, perhaps Mortar Team
Good guns: FAMAS, Galil, AK47, Commando, MP5K, MPL. Use the last pistol as secondary.

Say you play on 10 sensitivity…
With a normal (smg) class, your sensitivity will be 10.
With a sniper class, your sensitivity will decrease to around 7ish.

Saw a video today of how quick scoping doesn't work, so extremely bummed out, will have to check it out for myself to decide weather i want to return it or not.

How does quickscoping ruin the game? For me it's just something else to do that's a little more fun than all the other guns. :|

Unrealistic. Snipers are meant to snipe from a distance, not run up to closeby and expect to scope a perfect shot.

A lot of MW2 isn't realistic at all (throwing knifes killing at feet, hitmarkers, bullet hitting exactly where you shoot at when at long distances, akimbo weapons mainly models, killstreaks especially nuke, perks, no scopes not going straight, etc.), and for me it makes it more fun that it is unrealistic… otherwise I'd be playing a game closer to being realistic (BFBC2?) a lot more instead of Black Ops anyways.

EDIT: I'm not against getting rid of SOH Pro for snipers, but now that they have it so it's moving like crazy when you scope in and bullets don't register until 2 seconds or so is just too much and isn't too realistic itself…

I kinda agree with this. Not that it ruins the game, more thinking about the 12-year olds that /rage when someone ISN'T using the Intervention, the flamers that, er, .. flame when you scope for half a second too long. And ofcourse the fact that it's absolutely not realistic.

I played it on pc, Apparently Australia was the first ones to play it?

I stayed up at 12 so i could play it on Steam and it said the game will unlock in 8hrs..

Retail Versions got to play it at 12 but Steam ones had to wait till 8!!

But right now on PC MP is laggy.

quickscoping is the hardest way to kill somebody, how in the slightest ruin the game, try go to a FFA with a sniper, and an automatic, notice the difference in your K/D, so stop flaming about it, you dont understand if you are actually decent at quickscoping, as i make CoD videos this will hurt me, i know for a fact that OpTic gaming is going to make a petition for this to get it put back in, and i will make sure, that quickscoping exists in Black Ops

It ruins other people's fun though. Snipers exist to snipe, not get into a close battle. The quickscope patch helps balance it out a lot. I don't care if you think it's hard to begin with……. now you must actually SNIPE with a SNIPER =O!!

the fact that they made snipers so stupidly inaccurate before you snipe is silly. I could never quickscope well anyway, but on that first video it looked like they were really scoping in fully and it wasn't doing anything.

What did you expect with the quickscoping? It was hard on world at war, which was made by the same company as black ops, so likely to be made hard again.

And, one thing that's been bothering me: what exactly happens if you knife a guy in One In The Chamber whilst already having a bullet? Do you get another bullet?

Yes, you will have two bullets now. Knife another and will have 3, etc. Pretty cool.

And, that's really cool. Most epic killcam would be spraying all your accumulated bullets into the final guy. Hopefully you'd get hitmarkers on all the shots; just thinking it'd be a fun way to overkill. :3
I assume you lose your extra bullets if you die once?

(Someone just offered me the equvalent of 343 USD for my Prestige edition. Nevermind that you can still get it online for less than half this price, .. I'm keeping my mouth shut about exactly that. Kinda sweet. x)

Its not even at the point that anybody would want to use a sniper, lets say someone who has never picked up a sniper or doesnt even know what quickscoping is, its like 20x harder for them now because when you are looking at somebody, then zoom in you are looking at the ground.

and no, it is not balanced. EVERY SINGLE FPS GAME HAS SOME FORM OF QUICKSCOPING IN IT, and there has not been a found way atm, but trust me, i swear that OpTic or somebody will find a way, so im not worried :bart:

It's definetly more difficult to snipe now, sniping classes are the most underpowered now. Slightly saddening, I was exited about the russian Dragunov being in the game.

Any thoughts on Veteran difficulty so far?
Personally, I hate the fact that they kept the infinite spawning enemies, but that's what Treyarch does, I guess. At least the grenade spamming isn't that bad anymore. Still, it's more challenging that IW's Veteran difficulties.

For anyone who plays on PC. Is the game working properly for you? I didn't buy it yet (I wanted to see if the game would run fine because my graphic card and the processor are at the minimum requirements). MW2 was working great for me thou, on high with no lagg at all but Black ops is freezing all the time, lagging like hell even with resolution set to 800x600. I've heard that it's a bug and that even people with i7 cores are getting stuff like that. Your experience? :p

R1ch, nice classes. One thing though, are you using the MP5k because you have nothing else, or do you actually like it? I personallt find it quite inaccurate and annoying to use, especially in comparison with the Scorpion (which, unlike the create-a-class suggests, actually has a decent range) and AK74u.

Failpailirl, do you get more kills with C4 than you would've with a claymore? Considering you're a sniper..

my friend brought his 360 over today, and it's amazing… sticks and stones is so awesome. I'm a PC gamer, so I'm not very good with the 360 controller, and i got some incredible tomahawk kills just holding the right analog stick in one direction and pressing the right shoulder at the perfect time. I'm getting this game saturday, hopefully!

The campaign on veteran is too hard. I ragequit because of the infinite spawning in the corridor in the mission Executive Order. (The missions where you infiltrate and destroy the rocket). **SPOILER**
The campaign is much more action-y than any other Call of Duty game I played.

Failpailirl, do you get more kills with C4 than you would've with a claymore? Considering you're a sniper..

Um, i honestly dont use it to much, i find the claymore extremely cheap, and the c4 is pretty nice.

and yea being a sniper i like to try for the harder kills. so i use tomahawk. and ive found a way to quickscope, takes about 2 seconds to zoom in and kill someone fully with a sniper, in mw2 it was somewhere around like .5 seconds

i use a pistol as a secondary because when i get hitmarkers or miss a couple of shots i just pull that out and usually get the kill

and yes, i absolutly love the AK74-u, goddamn its awesome.

Campaign on Veteran was perfectly challenging. I was stuck at two places, the most difficult one being the place where you had to push back the infinitely spawning NVA. Took me a couple of tried to realize that you could run up to and push down the barrels of napalm to, er, "win". Protip: dive to prone towards the barrels, then dive right down again when the animation stops.

Oh, and I kinda lol'd when I found out about the "easter egg" in the main menu by myself.
.. and, am I weird for thinking that the Dead Pos arcade minigame is better than actual Nazi Zombies? It's kinda bugged regarding the amount of lives the player has, though.

Oh, and I too adore the AK74u. With the Grip attachment. And sleight of hand.
And, I recently switched over to tactical button layout. Took me a whole day to get somewhat used to it, but it's worth it.

This game is amazing.
My favorite guns thus far are the M16, Enfeild, FAMAS, and the AK74U. I'm enjoying TDM, DOM, and wager matches. I play PC :)

This game is pretty sick. Im still stuck however at the place where all these Asian soldiers are like ants coming at you. I get to the supply and I manage to die every time… Its a well made game however.

It is indeed there, only with new maps and charachters. 4 players online, two players split-screen, I believe.

Hardest part of the campaign. Dive to prone towards the barrels of napalm that are there, and press activate when toggled to do so. When the animation stops playing, immidiately dive to prone to the nearest cover and wait for a checkpoint. Repeat again for next barrel, and you should be done. :)
I reccomend starting with the western barrel, AFAIK – I found that one to be the easiest.
