If you want to see whose online, go to the main forum page and scroll alllllllllll the way down.

Ever heard of IRC?

You can get those chat addons to VB that give you a Facebook like chat.
Why not just install that Wizzup?
Would get new people more involved quicker in my opinion because they will be able to get quick advice straight away, which is what IRC was for but some new people might not know about the IRC and quite often there aren't even people talking on IRC.

Just my 2 cents.

No, they are horrible, and also require a lot more backend to be installed on the server.

IRC is millions of times better.

IRC is an always a pretty good option. I just don't think that new peoples will get the hang of it or want to go through all the 'trouble' of setting it up.

Yea, some sort of 'embedded' chat would be nice. But is it needed for what the site is? Also, I don't think some of the people would like to get spammed messaged all the time while they are trying to read things on the forum… As a thought with that, maybe a 'chat' page included on the top bar of links would do nicely. That is the only sort of embedded chat that I could see really working out. Some sort of villavu.com/chat …

No not like a chatbox, like legitimately almost exactly like Facebook chat, here is an example of one if you sign in

and sorry for the fail double post, but yes, but i mainly go on this website during after school, and sometimes at school. and IRC is blocked. (suprised they know what it is) i also have a 98% in this class and i had to show the teacher how to make a new folder XD

But the majority of people maybe check their pms maybe once, or twice a day, and the chat would be completely instant

Good point, so it would be a group chat, and a pm thing. i think it would be annoying to have to check for messages in two places though. maybe notifications of inbox messages could be sent via chat :P

or like with my idea, you could 'go' to the chat page… it wouldn't be a big deal. if you wanted to chat, you could. if you didn't then it would not be a problem or concern you. with an alternate embedded page, it would make it simple. just because you are online doesn't mean you have to chat; it also doesn't mean you want to be bothered with chat =].
