I think we should all keep an eye one him. He's written walking for SCRIPT_LSW_MINER and SCRIPT_DB_FISHER. I've tested them both and they work very well. I have also talked to him a lot on MSN. He has some good ideas, he gives suggestions and he definitely knows what he's talking about.

I think he should be given the cup for sure, then if he continues to contribute like he has (and not just in it for the cup), then I think he would make a good SL.

Thoughts?

May I ask why?

All his walking code is the same thing repeated over and over.

I say make him apply if he wants to be one. There is no reason he can't write up an application for us to vote on. I'm sick of handing the position out to people just so they can never look at MSI again.

Sure, I'll PM him and ask him to write up an application if he's interested. Also, we need people to maintain the include as you and I aren't going to be around forever (I'm already slowly becoming less active, and I think that's only going to get worse). I think that whatever Camaro doesn't know, he'll learn in time (just like you and me).

Hey,

I know we haven't talked in a while, but I was wondering if I could get some advise regarding MSI.

It's not that I've lost interest (although it has decreased), but I feel like MSI is more of a job than something I do for fun in my spare time. I'm much more interested in expanding my programming knowledge into other languages like Java or Python, but I feel like MSI is holding me back. Scripting with Simba and SCAR has taught me how to think and problem solve through logic, but I feel like there's nothing more I can learn. Sure, there are always new ideas, but that's just repeating concepts I already know. I'm not learning anything new; it's getting very repetitive.

I am starting to feel like I have to work on MSI, and that's not what it's about. I already don't have much spare time as it is, but I want to know what you think of this plan.

I'm going to concentrate a lot more on "Leading" MSI rather than being an "MSI Programmer". What I mean by this is worry less about what features need to be added and more about community involvement, so we can hopefully get more people interested so someone can take my place, or at least start to give me that impression (a lot like you did with me).

We need more SLs. There are some people I think may be able to be SLs, but I'm not exactly confident letting people work on the include. This may sound selfish, but I feel like MSI is mine and I don't want anyone working on it. That is exactly the kind of attitude that lead me to write this message. You and I both know that I've done a lot of code for MSI, but I shouldn't want to be the only one updating it; after all, it's not mine, it's the communities.

So basically, I'm going to be spending my spare time on the forums rather than writing code for MSI. In other spare time I want to learn Python as I hear a lot of good things about it (mostly from Nava :p), plus I think it would be neat to help work on the Python side of Simba/SRL. I think it's time that I "evolve" to something "better". I also hope that this change allows me to properly use my Mod and Developer ranks for SRL. Since MSI started, it's been MSI, MSI, MSI; I haven't done anything for SRL. I think it's time that changed. Of course, I won't forget about MSI, but it's time for me to "move on".

I will be updating and maintaining the MSI forum (this includes tutorials), so we can make it extremely easy for users to become SLs. I am also going to make a thread in the SL section about a few people who could possible me SLs.

Anyway, I wanted to tell someone what I was thinking. :) I realize I didn't really ask a question for you to give advise to, but oh well. :p

Cheers,
Cohen

The only second thoughts I have about Camaro is that his code is extremely repetitive and fairly generic/basic.

Right now in my eyes he is a contributor. He contributes to certain little parts of MSI. However, even he admits himself that he does not 'know' MSI.

There is no need for him to have commit access and be an SL if he is just going to post a color path once a month or so. People who are SL's should be able to do anything regarding MSI, from updates to additions. Personally, I don't feel he is capable of that right now.

I would feel a lot more comfortable with it if he would work steady with us for a bit rather than just pop in once in a while with something.

Coh3n: I share a lot of the same feelings you sent to RM. Just relax for a bit. My time is slowly starting to free up again, although I wont have the amount of free time I used to, I will still be able to do plenty again.

This weekend is going to be rather busy, but after that I should be good.

There's never going to be anyone that knows the include enough before they become an SL. The idea is that becoming an SL will get them more involved so they one day do know MSI.

Howdy, My name is aaron, I am 15 years old and enjoy helping the community by releasing scripts, bug fixes, and helping MSI. :p I think I would be a good MSI Scripting Leader because I am active, know how to efficiently color code, and I also know how to efficiently code using reflection. I also highly enjoy writing code for MSI. Some specific things I'm looking to get done for MSI is:

 • More color walking
 • Fighting.simba(Trashing my old work)
 • Bug fixes
 • Blacklists

I have contributed to MSI in the following threads:

http://villavu.com/forum/showthread.php?p=757396#post757396 - Blacklists

http://villavu.com/forum/showpost.php?p=747175&postcount=39 - LSW walking

+ With some script testing…

I just don't think there is a reason to have commit access if you don't even know the 'include'. In my opinion, if someone wants to be an SL, that's the absolute least we can ask. I know there is a lot to MSI, but people who don't really know what they're working with shouldn't be committing to it.

I know exactly what your talking about. I'm not going to lie, sometimes I take a day off just to take a day off and read up on something new. @NCDS

He knows the include, just not as well as your or I. I've talked to him a lot over MSN and he has a good attitude. I feel that whatever he doesn't know, he'll pick up along the way; however, we can wait and see what he does in the next few weeks if that will convince you that he knows what he's doing. :)

I also think its hard to prove you know the include. The only real way to do that is to continually fix bugs that come up as they can be all over the place. Developing features and skills are generally separate and can be done without having extensive knowledge of the include.

[OFFTOPIC] One of my priorities is to work on a proper documentation system. I'll be working with Wizzup (probably starting after the holidays) to use the same documentation SRL 5 is using. This will negate the need for the core guides (they're way outdated anyway). This system is very neat and organized and I think you guys will really like it. It will help everyone get to know the include much better. :)

Correct me if I'm wrong, I just skimmed the BL thread. Didn't a bunch of people say the coding for his black list stuff was pretty slow and inefficient? I dunno, it seems like he might not be ready to put in the efficient code that MSI wants.

But also looking at it, I saw him readily try to update his code after some suggestions.

So basically I don't know what to think. I like him. I say if he continues to show interest for a week or so then we should let him in. Don't play hard to get for too long or he might just decide that we aren't going to let him be an SL and get discouraged.

Hey there Camaro'. :)

Unfortunately, the majority of SL's don't feel you're quite ready to be an SL. That being said, all of them said you're close. Everyone wants you to keep doing what you're doing to demonstrate that you know the MSI include. I don't want you to get discouraged because of this and stop working on MSI.

I would still love to see you around the forums, doing what you have been (blacklists, color walking, etc.), and I have no doubt that you will become as SL in the near future. :)
