ok well this time last week a found a Dell GX280 on eBay with 2.8GHz HT processor, 1GB RAM and 80 GB HDD. Total price… £46

so anyway i thought, "meh, what is £46" and i bought it
over the week i decided that as it was going to have mac on it and it was a dell it would be called MELL

it arrived on monday while i was at college and i came home to find a really large box addressed to me.

i downloaded a copy of iAtkos S3 V2 and burnt it to disk. all that night i spent trying to get mac to install on the new computer to no avail. it would install, but it wouldn't boot :(

the next day i decided to try some hacked kernels, i chose one called qoopz which actually booted it up. so from that point i had a working hackintosh, but it wasn't fully functional, for example it crashed whenever i clicked on "About this mac" and there was no sound.

So with my laptop i set out to try and find out how i could fix these problems (i couldn't use my new MELL because there was also no internet).
I found a kext (driver) for the sound, then i found a fix for the "About this mac" problem.
only two main problems remained, graphics and internet.

I set out to try and get the ethernet working as i didn't have a spare wireless card. i searched and searched for hours and found no solution. then i decided to try a wireless card out of one of my other desktops.
I put it in and didn't expect it to work, but to my surprise, when MELL booted up it said that a new network interface was found.

So that left one problem left to solve. The graphics. and i solved that problem today.

So i now have a fully functioning Hackintosh for £46 which when you compare the price of a proper Mac, it is so bloody cheap

so yeah some info about it now

it shuts down in 2 seconds
it is running OSX 10.6.3
it boots up in 46 seconds

i am currently using safari on MELL to type this up

so if anyone buys one from eBay to use as a Hackintosh, then let me know and i can help you ;)

also the reason i posted it here is because i'm bound to get bashed from someone like wizzup? for having Mac on here instead of linux

I had Snow Leopard 10.6.4 on my PC for 2 months, then about a month ago, I switched back to Windows 7.

I sort of want SL back now XD maybe I'll do that this weekend, or maybe I'll try dual booting it.

SL is fun to toy with on your PC, but in the end, I still think Windows 7 is better. Also, I was a big fan of distro's from TPB and what not, but retail installs are sooo much better. I highly recommend taking the time to find your own kernel and stuff (which you did, I think?).

Anyway hello everyone lol sorry, I don't post anymore XD

That's sick!

I need a mac for some music recording stuff, as all the good programs run on Mac, but since i'm broke as hell I haven't been able to.

Post a guide, I'll love you foreverrrr. I'll dedicate a song to you :P

Cubase, Sonar, Reason, Record, Ozone, WaveLab, FL Studio, Nuendo, Pro Tools. You can't beat Windows when it comes to music, IMO.

So so wrong!

Protools = both platforms = more money than I can afford

Sonar = bleh

Cubase is okay, but I'd rather take a mac

The rest of the ones you posted aren't anywhere near as powerful as the rest.

Macs just have an overall better design for music. (new thread for talking about recording so we don't bug shut? >.<)

"more money than I can afford.." I see no reason to involve money in an argument about computer software..
