Dunno if this is allowed, so if it isn't please inform me :)

I'm starting, well, 1/4 way through my senior year in university and I'd like to get a cheap laptop, preferably used as it'll be even cheaper. I'm hopeful someone has one laying around that doesn't get used because they upgraded recently.
Trying to stay at or under $100 (shipped)
of course it needs to play crysis on max settings…..nah, just needs to run a windows OS, MS word/excel, and internet browser.

Let me know if you have anything laying around, price is pretty firm, but willing to go up a tad if the laptop is better than I need.

Mhh, well I can ask a few of my dev friends. I know two of them had used laptops they were selling, but I think they were around 150-200

That'd be cool anonymity, like I said, I'd be willing to go up a little for a little bit better hardware.

Why not try a Linux netbook? Those are quite cheap even directly from store. Run Firefox, OpenOffice, Battery for >6 hours…

I might need to use some windows only light engineering programs, like culvertmaster, flowmaster, and HEC-RAS.
I don't know much about linux, but wine lets you run windows things in it right? how resources intensive is wine?

You can get Windows for free (or at least very cheap) as a student? It'll be a little extra work to install Windows 7 from an usb stick, though.
