Ive been browsing around a lot lately, and was wondering if SRL is going to make this community more private? its about the same 400 people posting on the forums, and no one else. everyone else is leechers, not posting proggies, not helping out the community, ect.

No, community is good. Out of those 400 new people, maybe 5 will stick around and contribute.
It's not like "going private" will keep out Jagex.

I agree with that, since i know practically nothing about scripting i do whatever i can to contribute, but dont you think that there should be more of a waiting period, like instead of a week and 10 posts its a month and 10 posts? idk if i am the only one thinking this, just wanted to find out

I think it would be quite cool if the community went private, or at least slowly moved toward it.
First step would be to make the forums only viewable to registered users ( believe it or not simply creating an account will increase the likelihood of the person posting by 10x ). That might be already the case, really don't know.
The next step would be to close registration for one week out of the month… than two weeks… than three weeks… than only open 5 days a month… than 4… this spanning over a long period of time of course.
But that's just my opinion, really makes no difference excepts adds some value to the community, whilst encouraging involvement with it. You might think that making the community more private would be silly, but people naturally want to contribute if the access is limited.

Registrations were closed for a good time a couple months back. I like seeing new faces, brings in new contributors etc.. and there will always be l33h0rz
offtopic: whats the lion cup? I see it everywhere.

Exactly. Going private will NOT benefit the community at all.

Simba Testers cup. Wizzup will probably fix it soon.

I cannot see how this will make srl any bether, and as long as people post at all it is helping from my point of view.

If this community goes private it will probably die (or at least a lot less active). We can already see what the registration closing did to the activity at the forums. I see a lot less good and working scripts around here as we where used to have.
As for being a scripter; We like it if our scrips get used by other people. At least I loved that. So leachers are not always bad. Tough we do not want to end up like rsbot, and keep a decent community.
Couldn't disagree more with making SRL private. You say it's the same 400 people posting; well, closing registration permanently would stop that from increasing, and over time it would decrease, perhaps leading to the death of SRL. Like MK said, the temporary closure reduced activity, and reduced the amount of scripts (a) because no one could sign up -> learn -> script (b) scripts wouldn't get used, so the scripters thought it would be a waste of time.

I'm against full privatization. But the registration isn't a bad idea. It's how it used to be though, thus I don't see it happening.

We can't afford to close. We have come a long way, from a private PHBB with 25 hard-core member some five years ago (some of whom are still around!) to a full blown 1Gb dedicated server. Our community is very interlinked and close and will not stay at this level of activity if we -again- privatise our world.
Besides, we are working to raise activity by unifying our work, lowering the threshhold for the community to stay up-to-date and promoting Simba as our flagship of autoing.
So stay tuned!

I didn't fully read the thread before I posted, but I like the idea of people having to sign up to view the forums. Or, perhaps sign up to see links and downloads.

I've been around to see the rise and fall of many a runescape cheating site, and one thing has never changed yet. Once a site goes private, or invite only, or anything but open registrations, members slowly drop away and the site dies and shuts down. Every single time.
So if you want the community to die, make it more private, otherwise, keep it open.

i agree with moparisthebest here. it will die if it becomes more private.

There is no need to go private…We really need new members and talent and thankfully a lot of people are coming back and we are also seeing a lot of talented new members. Also this place used to be packed. But due to Rsbot and other Java bots popping out, it attracted all the leechers. Also, I would honestly rather have a community, that preaches learning, with little active members than a community with a shit load of users but zero learning…
