What did you change to Simba to make it compile on Mac? I'd like to see a few steps on how you did this.

A VM with the 'blending' option running. So you blend the windows OS to be with the Mac Dock still?

Now that I take a good look at it, Wizzup is right. How could I so stupidly fall for it when I myself am typing this on a Mac? Enough of this tom foolery

I stopped believing it when you had SMART running on the mac. :(

HyperSecret

I thought it at the beginning when I didn't see the window operations on the left hand side of the window bar. (close, maximize, minimize)

And the white dots on the Dock icons. For me those only occur when I have a VM running in 'blended' mode, the dots signify that those application are running on the VM.

I've got my linux system to cross-compile Simba binaries for 32 and 64 bit windows and linux, I may be able to get it to cross-compile a mac executable too, depending on whether os_linux.pas just uses X server functions or whether it uses linux system calls too, Wizzup?? :)

It only uses the X server. :)

I did this only to give Shuttleu a big kick in the ass for posting fake screenshots ;)
So yes, this is Simba running native under OS X Snow Leopard :p

You shouldn't buy a mac, it's a waste of your money. :)

Great! So it should run on anything that runs an X server, OSX, Free/Open/NetBSD, and anything else. This is one of the many reasons open source is great! :D

Why? So you can over-pay for under-powered hardware and a medium-quality operating system, with somewhat flashy stuff on top? It would be smarter to build a new computer and install Linux on it, then you get great hardware, the best software, all the flashiness you want (compiz etc) for the cheapest price. That's what I call a win-win-win-win. :D

Anyway, @Markus, did you have to do anything special to get it to compile for OSX? After I get the system set up for the rest I'll give cross-compiling for OSX a shot.

Markus

I did nothing too special except fixing some defines and fixing synapse (MSG_NOSIGNAL = $20000), I also renamed os_linux to os_darwin.
It's a bit hard to crosscompile for mac though as you need Apple's version of ld to link it, and I'm not completely sure if you can get that to work on a third party system.

I would greatly appreciate it if you would help me setup Simba on Mac, as I dont want to buy a version of Windows and install it via Bootcamp.

Markus

Trust me, it's not worth it as it hardly works ;) (see thread in Development section).
xpsp3:XBY6G-VXD8C-GR3DM-YKHTT-KR9J6 should pass activation

Instead of renaming os_linux for now I'm just going to define LINUX so it's included. I'll see what else that breaks. :)

I'm hoping that following these instructions will get me close to cross-compiling for OSX:
http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/Cross_compiling#To_Darwin_or_Mac_OS_X
The other instructions I followed for 32-bit linux and both windows weren't 100% correct but they got me close enough to figure it out myself.

Why not install Linux instead of windows? Simba works on that, and it's free and better. I recommend Kubuntu.

Yes, but Pascalscript as of yet doesn't work on Linux properly. :)

Well, to lighten the mood… Here is REAL Simba on the mac. WINE built with MacPorts.

EDIT: You must install all the font things via winetricks to get the syntax highlighting working properly.

I thought you said RUTIS would work under 32-bit Linux?

Regardless, all the more reason to get python scripting support in the works! :D

Yes, RUTIS seems to work. Except for the missing functionality on all platforms.

Yes. Markus was or is working on an os_darwin and that should be all Simba requires. It isn't easy to write an os_darwin so it may take some time.
