That is one of the things what Andrew Gower is telling the public at Runefest during a Insider Session called the "The Big Questions".

Free to speculate/debate about it. (Not that there really is after watching this) Just wanted to share this with you guys. We will see what happens :)

Last Mass Ban was fake..

OH goodie. I hope there's a mass ban. I think it would be informative to see who gets banned and whatnot. What would be funny is everyone else gets banned, but srl's accs dont. Haha.

Yeah, I'm not too worried. Srl/Simba is practically more advanced than anything runescape has at this point :D

Considering the first `Mass Ban' was because the Aryan Developers were ticked off with leechers, so they placed something in their client for JaGeX to detect.

Cheers, JaGeX can't actually find macros.

I find it funny that in the video when the bloke mentions to mass-ban, people start mumbling, and you can hear someone say "shit."

Well it would be pretty hard for them to find who is macroing. You'd have to review the account and see how it interacts. For macro detection systems, they'd have to add in something that would detect if the java code is being hacked [note I use the word 'hacked' VERY loosely]. This still doesn't solve the problem of SRL for Jagex– which we use the mouse still.

It would be really interesting with some dummy accounts to test and see if jagex could actually detect scripts.
Maybe have one person constantly click the same spot as a human for an hour straight on a tree. Have a robot do the same but make it human with random waits in between. If they ban the robot one and not the human one… then I assume that
1) They actually can detect non normal mouse movement
or
2) The script wasn't random enough.
Of course no one wants to actually do that for 1 hour though.

Well my main has been stuck for many times while it was botting. (I didnt used srl/simba) Sometimes I didn't even knew for how long. Well at least I had some 2-3 hours+. It was repeating the same pattern over and over again. last time was 2 days ago. My run energy was already at 100% but It kept repeating resting. I could see in the log that it was doing it for at least 38 minutes.

With your experiment. I think the chance of getting a ban is very low. Plus we know that It can take up to months before you get a ban. It would surprise me if you get a ban wile doing that. IMO Jagex wouldn't notice anything.

i know on one account i had, i used ghost mouse for powermining. it was banned for 12 days after a week of mining. it got to 72 mining though. it sometimes had the issue because it would fight something, then move spaces and eventually be way out of order, or randoms screwed it up, but thats the exact same movements over and over pretty simple to detect. im surprised it was a 12 day ban though. at that rate i couldve hit 85 before perma ban

You're welcome :D

@Op, if people were smart and haven't abused any of the current macroing "systems" then they should be fine.

And even then, there were some people who used Aryan and didn't get banned. I remember still using it on my two of my accounts and they survived.

Jagex aren't really good at detecting most stuff, though I imagine they are possibly collecting a lot of usernames to ban at once. Whats more scary to a bunch of kids around the age of 12? Seeing a forum post about someone being banned or going to Runescape and seeing a news post about 50,000 bots banned?

Also mass bans make it feel like Jagex are doing anything. Last mass ban lots of people jumped up lots of ranks on the highscores.

I should also note that the Aryan Developers *told* JaGeX.

You should also mention that the "something" pd did to the client was make it send a negative ip to RS servers. We all laughed for hours afterwords I will mention…

They could detect srl mouse clicks for example. Srl mouse click never moves the mouse even 1 pixel while mouse is pressed. Idk what would be easier than to detect that…

Upon my last look at client code, they have the ability to track mouse movments and clicks from everybody, but you have to understand that that is a lot of data to collect, store, analyze and do whatever with. So I have come to the conclusion that they only trigger such such tracking methods when you are "flagged", which can occur for a number of reasons.

If you auto smart and not abuse macroing systems then there is no reason for you to ever be "flagged"

This is the opinion that I hold as well, mostly because I took the time to read a leak of the pmod forums that was made available on sythe.
One of the jagex moderators essentially revealed that the macro detection system is linked to the report abuse system – remain unreported and the majority of their macro detection mechanisms remain inactive.

At the end of the day nobody can prove or disprove this theory.
However, when all is said and done, Jagex only has several hundred employees, so it's reasonable to believe that most player behaviour isn't subject to scrutiny.
Realistically, you shouldn't be getting caught unless your methodology is so severely flawed that you're throwing up red flags for other players to report you on. This includes things like impossibly long amounts of time spent in-game, or absence of reasonable reactions to things occurring in the game (ie, you run a bot that hunts red chins, someone else suspects you're botting and starts placing their traps where yours are, and your script fails to either move on/change worlds/tell the other player to buzz off).

Occasional conversation also lends itself to legitimising the account in the eyes of other players.
It's widely believed that bots either can't, or simply don't, talk… If you were to say something outlandish such as 'Well personally I like my lamb chops medium rare' and then follow up with something like 'Oops, that was meant to go to clan chat' then that can potentially deter surrounding players from reporting you.

tl;dr: Macro detection system would produce too much data to be useful to Jagex if it was activated for everyone by default and is thus triggered by the report abuse system – so avoid being reported.

I also believe that, because I can't imagine jagex roaming through tons and tons of data points that each account would generate. I would not be surprised if you need to be reported many times before getting banned. I for sure on my main have been reported for spending 12 hours a day powermining outside of ardounge, yet I'm still unbanned. I've had 85 mining for a LONG time so I'm pretty sure unless they tally names and wait a year… then I'm safe.
Then again, being such a high combat level makes lower players think you're just public chat off/friends.

I also think a random talker when someone is near you would prove to be beneficial. Even saying "whats up?" outloud or doing a 'my level is' quickchat can quite easily deter someone. I AUTOMATICALLY think someone who isnt talking is botting… even if they're level 120+. When someone chats to me… it removes most of the doubt since I don't know many programs that autotalk.
Though I never ever report anyone who bots. I believe in karma, and even if I see a level 3 with green pants and a bald head… I won't report. I know I'll probably take it up the ass one day and get banned– and I really hate seeing an army of level 3's chewing away at trees or in the fishing guild since it takes not even 20 minutes to jack up your combat. Others may have less tolerance.
