Dev Applications
For those of you who have a keen eye, a lot of time and read a lot, you may have heard before of Dev Applications. Every few months for some sort of reason they end up being mentioned somewhere, sometimes in public, sometimes in less public forums.
I would like to take to opportunity to clarify the fact that they do exist. They are real. They do happen.
Most Devs you know applied. Some are just simply brought in, some are asked to apply, some apply in the hopes that they'll get accepted - and they are. Maybe you believe to have Developers' material, but as none has ever mentioned it to you, you never thought of applying. Maybe you think that because no one asked you - that maybe you don't have it.
Let me tell you this: you are wrong. I was one of those who thought 'I'm sure I have Dev material. I'm one of the best non-devs around, and yet I don't see promotion anywhere on the horizon.' I tried to get closer to it, by developing entire files for the include (GE.scar), but to no real result.
Later on I applied. And I got in.
Why?
Because no one knows your scripts and scripting ability better than you do. Only you know your scripts inside out. Every drop of sweat, thinking and math that went into them. Every startling discovery and improvement to your loops. Only you know them.
Furthermore, we may look through your scripts, but we don't always read them line to line. We'll take a general view. We don't have the time, or we're just slightly curious, etc.
What?
So what is a Dev's job and expectactions?
How?
Prepare a thread where you expose all your best material, recent and old, explain it, what you consider to be the highlights, etc. And then PM it to an active dev. That's all it takes.
And maybe soon afterwards you'll have an orangy name.
Keep in mind tho, personality always plays a roll.
Lots o' Love,
The Devs

- Active Development
- Fixing
- Updating
- Creating
- Community Involvement
- Hearing Suggestions & Criticism
- Being able to say no. If something is not good or useful enough, a dev is expected to turn it down.
- A Dev has to have maturity.
