SRL Members Applications (SCAR -> Simba)

Could we change the SCAR tags to Simba?

Sounds very silly, but I am just curious. Perhaps a section for a proggy to see that the script works would be nice as well.

How do we know the proggy isn't fake? If you want to see if the script works, run it for yourself :p

I never consider how well a script runs anyway, just how it looks as a piece of code.

Why not keep scar tags and add simba tags?

And maybe we could make it so that the script doesn't have to be for rs. (It could be a game for example) ?

I'm able to sniff out some fake proggies.

People could easily just write a script that compiles, but doesn't work. Don't we want one that works?

But requiring a proggie is going a bit too far IMO. Pretty soon people will go "Hey your script's best proggie is only 2 hours, no".

I can see this become a problem.

Maybe a requirement to have the proggy have been posted by someone else who used your script? That would also tell us how user-friendly and capable of being used by others the script is. As for having voters run it themselves… Most people don't care enough about their one vote to go through the whole process of testing a script. Having a spot for a proggy (which, by the way, could be optional?) would give another dimension to the app that could help the applicant show his strengths if he so chooses.

On the flip side, applicants won't feel pressed to use unnecessary advanced techniques in places where simple techniques would do if they can prove that it works perfectly their way. That and, like I mentioned, it could be optional?

I think this out weighs the other side.

I don't see a need for proggies. The script could be interrupted by a random even which SRL can't solve, and the person who ran the script might not report it. This might mean that the applicant may get some extra no votes.

To be quite honest. I think the script I applied with only ran for about 2 hours. I did most of my learning after becoming SRL Member. The fisher I'm working on runs forever (theoretically). Its only ever been stopped by unsolvable randoms. (FYI, Molly (Color) is broken.)

I think the general opinion of SRL members is that a script must have custom TPA object finders, TPA walking, DDTMs + a heap of other "criteria". If applicants are now also required to post progress reports it adds another "criteria" to the voter's list. Even I often can't create a working script of the level expected by the voters. I do agree though that a simple-coded script that runs really well should at least be equivalent to a more advanced one that runs equally well.

It has to utilize the SRL library so, no.

Requiring proggies will cause more problems than solve imo.

I'm on the no side of including the proggie as well.

You're not looking for a script that runs perfectly. You're looking for knowledge & attitude.

Simple things like a longer wait can make the script run for many more hours, but shows no extra programming knowledge.

There are up sides to this such as ensuring scripts do run and run well, but it's too fickle a criteria imo.

I agree with what TAD stated. Someone else should post a progress report. The reason why I think that is because, What good does some advanced- not working code do for us? munks forefeathers script would probably get denied if it was posted. That script ran forever and for awhile was the most used chicken killer for non SRL Members. Just my view on things.
