For those of you who are new, here is the link to the original(?) scripting lesson thread, started by P1nky: Link

So I am looking to start up a scripting lesson session.

I'll give the requirements, to scare off the lazy people first:

Required

• MSN - Will be used in a group chat for all learners and teachers, etc.
• Up-to-date Simba and SRL/Reflection
• Be willing to learn please, I'm donating my free time for this

Now, if you haven't ditched already, I'll get down to business.

I am willing to donate one (two, three, who knows) hour(s) of my time one day a week, preferably not a Friday. The hours can be decided on later, but must be after 3pm AST (2pm EST) because I am off work at 2:30. I'll gladly teach anyone that wants to learn, but you must be available at the time that myself/any other teachers can agree on.

Teachers
Just me for the beginning, I will ask for some help if this idea actually picks up.

Teaching Subjects
Anything from the very basics to advanced TPA methods and different types of algorithms. Anything to do with reflection that I can help with.

*Please note that I am not a professional teacher, and wont claim to have any experience in the subject of teaching. If you come with specific questions/topics then I will have an easier time teaching you :)*

*This is 100% free, out of the good of my heart. Please take advantage of it while you can, summer doesn't last forever*

I'll sign you up as a learner then? I'm hoping thursday works for people this week, then I can get a lesson in this week, I don't think I'm willing to give up a weekend right now :p. Brainstorm some ideas for what you might like to learn, and I'll keep it in mind.

Works fine for me, but I might be a little late. Or I might be out tomorrow. But oh well. I really don't need to be there. :p

xD anytime sounds good, learners should be the ones making time to come you anyway, but yeah tomorrow for me that time is good =]

Why not use IRC? :/ MSN is just an inconvenience for group conversations.

Here is the challenge:

Those who attended know what I'm talking about.

First, walk from the red triangle to the green circle, then another function to walk back to the bank.

Second, make a TPA finding function to locate the bankers and open your bank ("Bank Banker" option)

These don't have to be one function, or one script, it just has to show that you maybe learned something :)

aw Garrett <3 lols tbh i would advice the newcomers who are intrested in scripting to attend the lessons, the ones who are clueless about scripting, check it out tbh you may feel a bond and get hooked on it :) like Phonics!

I'm completely clueless, and I don't like it that way. :P So I would definitely like to attend the lessons. When do they start?
EDIT: Oops! Didn't read the whole thread. Stinks that I missed the first lesson. :\ I'm hoping to be there for the next.

Ill tell ya right now, when I learned TPA's, I wish i was with this guy when I was learning it XD, its much better then most tuts out there, and he provides clearer, more hands-on examples - methods. =] No worries, just put your name in, add him on MSN, and you'll be more then welcome any time for help or a lesson or 2. Im pretty sure hes always there to answer questions on MSN =] just make sure you get your name in for next weeks class.

Okay, here is my thought. I need more organization. Next Thursday is the day. Any time after 4pm AST, noon GMT I believe. But before 8pm AST. Users can pick since almost everyone who showed up didn't show up on time.

Note:
To everyone who was at the last lesson, you all pushed an idea of review (*homework*) and nobody has done it, except heavenguard. It only takes a few minutes, I'm not doing that next time if it's not even worth it..

So I need people to suggest a time that accomodates enough people that I'm not just having a one on one lesson for 30 minutes. I also want opinions on the idea of this:

2 Groups in the lesson. Group 1 starts at the very basics, helpful for people who want to start, as there are a couple people who have decided to start if I give them a helpful push. Group 2 could be an advanced lesson. I've seen lots of SRL Members express interest in learning some new things. I know that a lot of them know either the same amount as me or more, and I wouldn't be a very good teacher for that. If someone more advanced (devs + preferably) would like to teach something advanced at a different time than the beginner lesson (so I could learn too ;)) then we could have an advanced lesson as well as the beginner lesson, which would accommodate a larger audience, while maximize the teaching of the current subject.

So, I don't know if I explained that well, but I'd like some feedback. I need to get organized in advance. I'm removing all the names on the list, except for.. Myhatisblack and Myles, so that I don't sign people up that aren't eager to learn and show up. So just re-post if you wanna be involved again, and you have to offer an opinion on what I just said or I'm not signing you up :p

I want to do it, but I'll need to be in the beginner's group. And what's time difference between AST and EST?

AST is atlantic canadian time. EST is 1 hour behind it.

I really like the idea about the two groups! What way n00bs like me can learn the basics and be motivated into learning more to scripting. :spot:

I will be drinking tomorrow/tonight, like I am right now :)

Sorry about not doing the TPA homework. I ended up making it much more complex and basically made a nice VEM walker and what not. :p I don't think I was really the one who needed to do it but when I have time to post it I will. :) Can't tonight; girly time.

Well I work from 6am until 3pm every day this week, and next. So that's why it is after 4pm AST and before 8pm (I like to try sleeping around 9:30 or 10).

I can't really vary from that, and weekends are the only time I have to hang out with my friends, drink, etc.

If you could read something like this or this it would really help me out so that I don't have to start from the very beginning. Both are very good tutorials which cover a range of topics.

My schedule is pretty consistent:
8am-9am: Physics
9am-10am: Math
11am-12pm: Programming
1pm-5.30pm: Work

like that every day (except different classes and such… but same times ish)

I have it, but I dunno if everyone else does.

If you can get msn working, that would be easier.. Use meebo, ebuddy, etc.

Well supposed to be today.

So far two(?) people have said they'd be free today (i mentioned this on monday, gotten two replies). So it's an obvious decision, nobody has cared about it enough this week, lessons are postponed until further notice/interest.

Tenative time next week - Wednesday, 5pm AST (GMT-4)

I'd be glad to both teach, and learn. I get home 3:30-4PM EST. I've got the basics down, so I can teach those no problem. I can do/teach most forms of walking, finding, autocoloring, etc. TPAs however, I am nearly incompetent with. Just a heads up.

I was wondering who that was. I accepted.

However, lessons are postponed today, for until people stop being so lazy. I'm just in a shitty mood today I guess. Hopefully people will actually post this weekend about it and we'll figure it out.

Oh man sorry dude I had some stuff going, two days ago I had some religious stuff and today, my mom randomly took me shopping and I've been out until just half an hour ago.
I'm still up for the lessons and I'll try to pay more attention to this thread.

I'm up for learning! I have very little knowledge of how to script, however. Although I could probably only attend lessons on the weekends. If you could copy and paste the chat logs of the lessons it would be greatly appreciated in case some people miss a lesson or people find out about these lessons 3 months from now.

I feel that many people are up for these lessons, but the ones who really need it are not exactly aware on this thread. Meaning that either they really don't know much about it [or the teacher :P], or they simply want to learn but things come up and cannot keep up with the pace thats needed to keep this thread [and its classes] alive D:

I think that if the lessons were on weekends then people's schedules would be more lenient making the lessons more populated. I understand if the teacher(s) can't do weekends tho.

^ For a lot of people (myself included) school may have just started up. I know I am kept busy with classes and work from 7-5 monday through friday, then studying and school work at night/weekends. Scheduling things might be a bit of a ramble.

I'll gladly open myself up for anyone who wants to schedule a private lesson with me.

You'll have to be open for whatever time I find myself free at, because I'm extremely busy with school right now. But if you want to work something out, add my msn (it's in my profile)
