Save every X minutes

What the topic says. Today my laptop crashed out of the blue and I lost the bits of work I had done since the last save, so I think this might be a good addition :)

This would be very useful. Although it should be an auto save feature saving to a separate file, not the original.

Good idea RM ;)

Agree with ^^ When I'm playing around with scripts, sometimes I mess up big time, so just re-open an un-saved original, but if it's all going well, a saved backup would be beasty. I like Senna's idea.

I agree. I've lost hours of work in Scar due to crashing anf honestly haven't had any problems with Simba. Nobtheless its a great idea.

Could try this in an extension, no?

Just do like gedit does, save it with a prepended `~' char.

Yeah, although you need to be able to get the text out of the editor.

The onScriptStart event listener has the var Script parameter, but I don't think that's good enough.

I was actually wondering about this too, regarding whether it's possible or not. So, except for the stated example, is there some other way?

And, if not, could it be added?
I have an extension idea that basically evolves around making a script (standards) formatter, this would require at least getting the script – being able to edit the contents of the box would be nice too, but the extension could also simply parse the output to a new .simba/.txt, although the original plan was to auto-format current script with only a (hot)key press.

Why not just prepend with a ~ and delete the auto-save files when Simba closes peacefully? :p

I'll just "bump" this, I love the idea :).

Since there is no way other than this to save your work from a crash than saving every x minutes, which a human doesn't think of, maybe the machine can do it for us and save alot of lines ?

Or make it save every 50 letters changed ? Something like that .

Wizzup was talking about adding more hooks..
If I get what I want in my previous post ITT, this could be done as an extension.

Do like google does with "Google Documents"; Auto-save.
You don't need to click the save button, the application does it for you

Hook ideas:

OnScriptStart(var Continue);
OnScriptStart(var Continue: Boolean);

//methods: Perhaps return a Record of sorts with the information?
getCurrentScripts();
getActiveScript();
