MSI Player Remote

[INDENT]Hey guys,

First off, I would like to give a huge thanks to Shuttleu for the development of this feature. I honestly think it is (or can be) one of the coolest features MSI has right now.

You may have read that I committed this yesterday. I thought we could continue the discussion here. Any previous discussion took place in this thread.

Basically, the Player Remote is a Simba extension that allows the user to reset their players during runtime. Once you save your new player information, the script will update it after each load and after switching players. Currently, the player's activity and location are the only attributes that can be reset.

If you happen to look at the remote earlier today (or yesterday), then you probably noticed that there was also an option to change the player's script. This didn't work for a couple reasons:
  • The Objects were never reset meaning that if you changed scripts, it would still try to look for the objects from the previous script.
  • The progress report would be overridden with new script information (if it were to work). So, all the original stats (logs cut, times, etc.) would be lost and replaced with the updated script information.
So for now I have commented out the parts that have anything to do with the scripts. If a player was set to false for whatever reason (random, lost) then the user can login to that player by either pausing the script and logging in, or using another RS client and place that player in the proper location. They can then open the Player Remote and set the player's location and activity.

Idealy, I would like to see the remote being used to completely reset the player. I would like to hear everyone's thoughts on this.
  • Activity and Location - Already added so there's no need to worry
  • Scripts - When added in, the main form increases in size depending on the player array with the most amount of scripts. For example, if a player has 6 scripts in the array, the form's size will automatically adjust to fit boxes for 6 scripts. As for the progress report, I was thinking that if the user was to change the script, we could just increase the length of the Scripts array and Inc(CurrentScript) for that player. That way, we begin the implementation of multiple scripts and it doesn't mess up the progress report.
  • Objects - This is where I'd like to see the most feedback. My original thought is to have check boxes for all the possible objects for each script. Using this method, however, would require updating the extension for each skill added (which is what we were trying to avoid).
  • Loads[L_BREAK] and Loads[L_TOTAL] - I'd say these are pretty straight forward: add labels and text boxes and we're good to go.
The thing about completely resetting the players is we're kind of just making an entirely new player form. It may be enough to just reset the player's activity and location. I, personally, would be happy with only that, but I do think it would be neat to be able to change the player's script whenever you want.

I'd love to get lots of feedback on this, so don't hesitate to post any thoughts.

Cheers,
The MSI Team

first off, thanks :)

second, for the objects, you can have the form read the amount of objects that can be used for that script, then add the appropriate amount of check boxes under the drop down box. Just a thought i just had, i will look into how well that would work

Yeah I was thinking that too, except I don't know if you can have check boxes inside combo boxes in pascal. If it can be done, I say that's definitely the way to go. :)

Well, a thing to consider…

If we want to "completely" re-start the players, maybe in the future we can jsut simply make it pop out Dan & RSG's MSI form…

As for now, underneath sounds ok, but how are you going to find which objects are available and etc?

Check through the TScripts array, and use ObjToText?

Ah okay. Would make the form significantly bigger, but if we use the same kind of thing for objects as we did for scripts, it shouldn't be too bad.

Check the TScripts array yes, but use MSI_Objects[].Name. ;)

And yeah, I mentioned that to Shut (I think) about having 2 forms that do basically the same thing.
