Msi & ssrl

'ello there.

Developers and Staff have access to these forums, as you have definitely noticed by now.

The reasoning behind it is very simple:
- The more of them get involved, the more likely the success of MSI is
- Developers have obviously a lot of developing experience and knowledge, and therefore can give a hand & interesting hints, driving MSI to places we hadn't considered. (Pointers, bitwise consts?)
- Staff can always give a hand leading with (basically everything) and can consider ways of helping MSI & using MSI (Boreas - Barebones, etc)

And I'm sure we could think of a few more benefits that go both ways.

Now, my question is: Do we want to give access to Senior Members?

Originally I didn't, so that MSI would build its own identity, rules and people, rather than just being a bunch of SSRLers.

Now, that we already have all this, I see some benefits:
- SSRLs are capable scripters
- SSRLs are capable thinkers
- SSRLs are community driven

And this could come to benefit MSI tremendously. It would also give SSRLs an interesting thing to get involved in.

It is true that they don't NEED access to the private forums to get involved, but the involvement that I would expect coming from SSRLers is more on the high level end, rather than filling in a few script records every now and then.

It would also give the opportunity to other community projects to mix in with MSI.

^ About this, you guys will always have the ultimate say. But there is a lot of potential to try out new technologies" and so on by plucking it into MSI. I've post before a way to allow testing of features without stopping MSI from running properly, by using defines.

After all, it's this sort of development that makes us (SRL) stronger, and this as a community project is seeming to reach a level where it can bring sub-projects in.

We'd need to be very careful about that, so we don't drift off course, but it is definitely a possibility.

So the question is: Allow SSRLers to view these forums - or not?

I honestly don't know if it's needed. I mean, 95% of MSI's discussion is in the public part of the forums anyway and they can always offer input there.

I have to say its probably not necessary.

I think it wouldn't affect anything  All the discussion is already in public forums.

I don't see anything wrong with it? I'd say yes, for the reasons that you stated – and the fact that I cannot come to think of any counters for mentioned reasons, nor any cons for this in general. So, yes, I think they should be allowed.

I would have to say no. We use MSI private boards for private conversations, if we require outsiders input then we post in the public part.

Also, I feel that plenty of 'SSRLers' are not adequate scripters and really don't deserve to see any more than any other member.

I'm pretty sure that anyone in SSRL that is going to contribute has already made an attempt.

Either way it doesn't really effect much I guess. Just my little 'after work rant'. :p

You've said yourself that SSRL is more between Members and Staff and that SSRL members don't necessarily represent any scripting prowess. So my opinion is no SSRL should not get special access to any private boards. May I ask what the point of a MSI private board is?

Mainly to discuss major core changes or /Skill additions.

I find it rather useful, just look through it :)

I still see no reason to keep it private?

@EC & Zeph:
They were private at first while the SLs developed the core. At that point in time I had wanted privacy so that we could all focus, unlike the previous MSIs where random people said they'd do stuff, but then as there were lots of people everyone would think everyone else would do it.

And I guess the SLs are right. Any planning is now done on the public forums. These forums are more used to discuss MSI's "path" and so on, rather than any scripting related events.
