Meanwhile, an entire culture develops and spreads behind your back. I'm not saying Lil Wayne deserves a Nobel, just that rap has been a motor in social change, parties and generally getting laid for the past thirty years or so.

Dude, dude, not even true. There's so much great stuff under the Rap/Hip-Hop family tree. I'll admit that the genres aren't well represented by MTV (lol), pop radio (lol), or even the average hip-pop fan ("I leik Lil Wayne?"), but that's not the best of the genre by far. Hip-Hop at it's best is amazing, just like metal or rock at it's best is amazing. It all comes down to what sounds you like, and how they match your emotions. For example: I like Hip-Hop because of the wordplay and complex lyrics, the heavy/funky/jazzy/soulful feel it has, and the subculture. Metal doesn't really appeal to me because I like melodic vocals, "funky beats", and the "metal" emotions aren't really in my daily spectrum. Also metal subculture is not for me. Way too much drunken headbanging in your neighbors garage.

All genres, like men, are created equal.

Bottom Line: Shitty pop music is still shitty pop music no matter the genre. It will never further it's genre, you will never get anything out of it, and it will never stop being made. Stay away from it or it will make you musically classless, and possibly kill you.
