the plugin can easily be downloaded from the website, so there is no need to code our own :), it supports vBulletin, IPBoard, phpBB or SMF

I don't know what security implications there might be. That's about the only harm.

they have stated on their website that the plugin does not mess or interferer with any security settings at all

just try it, and if something doesnt seem right then you can remove it

i have no need for anything to be installed, my gf's HTC can access site straight away.

i do all the time, and i feel that it would be better to view the forums in a way that feels native to the device than to view it in a way where i have to zoom right in and keep scrolling the page around to see what it says

That doesn't make sense, if you are browsing the forums on the go, that means you do have a life and that you just may want to catch up and see whats happening down at SRL.

I've got an android phone, but I'd never use tapatalk. It's a shitty idea. A nice mobile-friendly theme would be much better. For an example, visit my forums on your phone. It's not as nice as I would like, but it works well on any small device with a standards-compliant browser (blackberry, nokia, android, iphone, etc)

I'd agree - though tapatalk is nice from a UI standpoint, a mobile theme would be nearly as good and would be useful for more people.

In addition, it wouldn't force us to buy (/pirate) any apps.
