Just won a $400 RC car, and a battery worth at LEAST $100.

Can't type too much now, but I'm very excited! Will post more details after work!

OK, I'm back.
Heres the skinny.

About a week ago, the owner of MaxAmps Battery Company posted a little contest on the RC forums I frequent. He basically said, "Hey, we are coming out with something crazy, and never before seen. If you want to guess what it is, sent me an email. If anyone gets it correct, I will send them a Slash 4x4"!

So I send in, and I quote, "an adjustable Lipo, that you can just slap cells on and off to adjust voltage". I arrived at this conclusion thinking that they were a battery company (a controversially expensive battery company), and I figured they would stick with that. So that narrowed it down to a battery. The "best" battery chemistry for RC, is lithium polymer (Lipo). That was obvious. So I thought for a second, and figured the only thing you could really come up with new, is an adjustable one. One that you can basically take apart, and put together to get your desired power. Thus, my correct guess.

So this wasn't pure luck, just some quick thinking.

Today he responded to me with this email:

Do I ever have good news for you:) You won the Slash 4x4! Give me a ring so we can get your address. I am going to include one of the new Multi-Voltage packs with the kit. We will need you to send us a picture of you with your new Slash so we can put it on the homepage at www.MaxAmps.com

Congrats! Amazing guess really.

And I'm very very happy!!!

I will take pictures, and then box it up and sell it as new, hopefully fetching a solid $400 (usual price for ebay).
I will then take this money, and purchase a Savage Flux.

but…but…for that same price you could buy and ipad! How much cooler would that be!?

Why not get gas? You've already got a pretty nice electric…

uhhh…cuz gas one are expensive, and nitro ones suck :p (just not my cup of tea…at all…)

This is the one I won:

(couldn't find a great vid…tons out there though)

And this is the one I will purchase once I sell the first:

Damn that's awesome. I'm currently looking for a voltage-adjustable power supply, how much watts can a Lipo produce? And what is the voltage range of the adjustable pack you've won? If you're ever interested in selling it I'd dig it xD

well my current lipos are rated at 30C, at the capacity of 5Ah, that'd be 150A. Of course at that current the battery would be drained in a few seconds, and probably burst into flames….There is no standard in rating current output capacity of batteries, it basically guess. But many systems using an ameter have measures 150-160A of peak current (almost instantaneous).

Anyway, what kind of power supply are you looking for? Range of voltage? You can convert a computer PSU (or buy one pre-converted by me), they can supply 3.3V, 5.0V, 12V, -12V and some of the weird old ones I've found do some wierder stuff….

And by adjustable lipo, it is basically the same as adding another AA battery, you increase it by 1 cell. So it is either 3.7, 7.4, 11.1, or maybe 14.8V depending on how many cells they send me.
(and I'm not interested in selling them, you'd have to buy a lipo charger anyway)

I'm looking for some 35-0-35 for sound applications, but I can convert the voltage by making a custom power transformer. It just has to be able to produce about 200W for 5 hours.

Brain

I don't think I could promise even a peak 200W output. Sorry.

Still waiting on my car! Should be here this week I hope!
