There is now a text file included in the Simba repository that will keep up-to-date information on compiling Simba.
You can find this file here —> https://github.com/MerlijnWajer/Simba/blob/master/INSTALL.rst
Any commits before this file are expected to be FPC 2.4.4 and Lazarus-fixes.
Old post left here for historical purposes.
———————————————————————————–
It is trivial to set up a base install of Lazarus/FPC (and git), which is all you need to compile simba.
You will want a recent lazarus, download it here:
http://www.hu.freepascal.org/lazarus/
I suggest: Lazarus-fixes + fpc 2.4.4 (Obviously as new FPCs are released, you may want to get a newer version.)
Now run the lazarus installler.
Download the portable version of git: http://code.google.com/p/msysgit/downloads/list (on linux, just install git from your package manager. actually, install fpc from the package manager too if the version is >= 2.4.0, you can then do a svn checkout on lazarus sources and build the latest lazarus yourself)
I suggest: PortableGit-1.7.0.2-preview20100309.7z
Unzip portable git to a directory, and run git-bash.
From git-bash run:
If you are a simba developer, you will use a different URL for the git repos.
Now you have git ready for use. Refer to my other git tutorials on how to use git to update the simba source. (hint: git pull)
To compile simba, simply open the file C:/Simba/Projects/Simba/Simba.lpr in lazarus and hit compile.
