So as many of you will know the world cup final is in about 13 hours.

Netherlands vs Spain.

Who will win?

Just hoping Netherlands will win the cup! They have lost 2 times in final… They would deserve it already!

Although, I have a bad feeling Spain will win. :( Hopefully this scenario wont happen.

I think Spain will just win, but it will be very close.

After we (yes I'm saying "we", soccer is a great way to identify yourself with your country) won from Brazil, it couldn't get any worse…

NEDERLAND KAMPIOENE! xD (I guess I don't have to translate that)

Paul the octopus says that Spain will win.

Thus, I see no need to watch the game.

I should do that if I were you, It wasn't the last pass but the one before that, even if the player doesn't receive the ball, it was still offside…

I'm no soccer fan, but I believe you have to touch the ball to be considered offside.

EDIT: Something like that: http://www.fifa.com/worldfootball/lawsofthegame.html

Either way, he wasn't offside.

Er, no? I don't feel like going through the whole tutorial on the rule again, but offsides is more or less…

1) The player is in an offside position - TRUE (he was behind the last opponent)
2) The player is active in the play - FALSE (he was not active in the play)

(I'm assuming we're talking about the 2nd to last pass, if you're talking about the last pass then it goes False-True)

Because active in the play is defined as

1) Making contact with the ball from a pass
2) Touching the ball from a rebound (after a shot) after being in an offside position
3) Touching the ball immediately after an opposing player touches it

None of that happened until he was in an onside position and his teammate passed it to him.

I didn't like the way Holland played, that tackle… Spain deserved it by far.

A player in an offside position is only penalised if, at the moment the ball
touches or is played by one of his team.

-The ball is played by a team mate.

gaining an advantage by being in that position

- We had to make a slide to gain the ball back.

During this games were many similar situations, all offside.

I don't know where you got that, but Fifa's official site says

1) The player is in an offside position
2) The player is involved in active play
3) The penalty is called

He was obviously in an offside position, but he was not involved in active play, because that is defined as:

1) The player is interfering with play; or
2) The player is interfering with an opponent; or
3) The player is gaining an advantage by being in that position

Further defined as (respectively)

1) The player is playing or touching the ball when it has been passed or touched by a team-mate.
2) The player is…
- preventing an opponent from playing or being able to play the ball by obstructing the opponent’s line of vision or movements,
- or is making a gesture or movement which, in the opinion of the referee, deceives or distracts an opponent.
3) The player is…
- playing a ball that rebounds off a post or the crossbar after having been in an offside position, or
- playing a ball that rebounds off an opponent after having been in an offside position.

No, no, and no, so it's not offside.

EDIT: Besides, after looking at it again, I realized he wasn't even in an offside position on the 2nd to last pass…

1:08 mark. As the guy is kicking the ball, Iniesta's feet are clearly on the other side of the last defender's.

As FIFA likes to say "Refereeing errors is part of the game's spirit!"

Sabzi

2010-07-12 15:38:16

^That's why there is no(and won't be) video referee(or whatever it's called I just mirror translated). Because what are you doing now? Speaking about football. They like when you are speaking about their game. What would you be doing if there is no point arguing, because there is no referee errors? "Ahh well, Spain win." :)

Anyway that wasn't offside, maybe by your private rules masterBB, but in the world cup they play by the official rules.

There is video refereeing in other sports (American football and in the last two minutes of NBA), yet people still talk about it. :p They don't believe it for some reason or another.

But the thing people talk about most in regards to the NFL and NBA is stats. Correct me if I'm wrong, but soccer has very few stats (goals, assists, tackles…is that it?). Besides speculation, refereeing, and the occasional look at the few stats, I don't think there's all that much to talk about. Hence I see what Sabzi is saying.

I was just pointing out that people see the replays of things in the NFL and NBA and they still complain about it, so having video refereeing wouldn't make less people watch soccer, imo.

I agree, Fifa should implement it.
