So what gen. is the best when you don't jailbreak.
And what is the bes gen. when you jailbreak it.
And I googled for jailbreaking, but I was a little bit mind twisted about the fact. You still have to pay for those games, right? Or do you need to torrent the games and you can only install them when you jailbreaked your Itouch?

Well, the 8GB 3rd gen is really a second gen. Just thought you'd like to know.

Just go with the newest one… And no, you don't have to pay for anything. Just jailbreak it. You can have fun without stealing apps if you really wanted… You can put SSH and a practically full Linux system on it.

yes. there are jail-broken sources around anything. PM me for any more questions.

You can jailbreak all of them. spiritjb, I think.

You can jailbreak anything at the moment.
Spiritjb.com is the best/easiest. You do not have to buy or torrent the games.
Once the ipod touch is jailbroken, you can get installous from cydia which downloads the apps straight to the ipod touch. If your thinking about doing it pm me with any questions.

i jailbreak iphones and ipod touches locally
the third gen is by far the best when jailbroken or not
if you want it jailbroken then if you get a third gen then hope that it has 3.1.3 or lower
if it has 4.0 then it currently cannot be jailbroken (although a jailbreak is on the horizon)
if you go with a second gen then you will be perfectly fine as long as you do not get a late-2009 MC model. (if you get this then you might as well have got a third gen)

so in short:
third gen is better
second gen MB model can be jailbroken whatever firmware
second gen MC model and third gen can only be jailbroken if they are on 3.1.3 or lower
4.0 jailbreak for second gen MC model and third gen is expected to be released soon

if you need any help with anything (including installous, appsync and anything in cydia such as customization) then just let me know and i will answer all of your questions as fast as i can

An add on to what you said, you dont have to *hope* its 3.1.3 or lower, you can downgrade firmware. Most of the time its in DFU if you bought if from a store, you can just hold shift + restore and link it to the correct firmware from:

Or at least i couldnt downgrade a 3.1.3 2nd gen MC modal

4.0 has been jailbroken for awhile now. redsn0w has a jailbreak out for it. I upgraded to 4.0 right away and within days redsn0w released a jailbreak for it.


If you are looking at getting an iPod touch I would suggest waiting. Apple is going to be releasing (idk when) a iPod touch with a camera and a microphone. Probably will be more expensive then they are now but worth the extra cash, imo.

if it is a 2nd gen MC model, 3rd gen or iPhone 3GS you have to have the shsh files in order to downgrade to a lower firmware

and as you cannot get the shsh files for 3.1.3 anymore you will HAVE to hope that it is 3.1.3 or lower because if you dont have the shsh files for 3.1.3 or lower and it is on 4.0 then you will NOT be able to downgrade

if you have a ipod touch 1st gen, 2nd gen MB model, iPhone or iPhone 3G then you can downgrade without the shsh files

Why isnt there a 16 gb version :'(.
It's still litte bit overpriced for me xD.
But can I put linux on it? and then go use like openoffice and shit?

EDIT: 16 was removed because it was upgraded

there used to be 8, 16 and 32

but 32 got doubled to 64 for the same price along with all the extra features
16 got doubled to 32 for the same price along with all the extra features
8 was kept and made cheaper (without the features) to make a cheap option

Edit: I'd never consider them a option after purchasing myself a nice pair of headphones though.
