Ok, so as a Simba release is really close we would really like to know from everyone who reads this if there are any issues with Simba. If there are, we can fix them or take a look at it before the release.

Bugs, annoyances, everything. I guess sticking to the negative points would be just fine, and if there are none, post that ``you didn't run into anything so far''.

So far we have no real idea how many people are actually using Simba, or why they perhaps are not using Simba.

Please let us know!

LIST

  • Implement Status() correctly. After initial release, requires quite a bit of hacks
  • Implement Disguise(). After initial release, requires quite a bit of hacks
  • Not always show Tray Icon Done
  • SRL Updater hangs on startup. Done
  • Show commit messages in the SRL Updater? Won't do for now.
  • Investigate Ctrl +A debug box. Works for me? (on XP anyway)
  • Investigate Text selection. Will check after release
  • Parser Error List (for code hints) Niels? - Probably after release
  • Add more functions to function list.
  • Look into problems with Code hints for Zyt3x.
  • API Calls Done
  • Function / Procedure on key-combo press. After initial release

Tray Icon not disappearing in a Lazarus/Windows bug I think, but we can see if it is fixable. If you just hover over it, it will disappear.

Closing Simba while it is updating SRL? It should probably use a form, rather than do it in the background, making it impossible to close while upgrading?

This isn't really a bug, but when I first open the open and save as dialog, it goes to My Documents and I think it should go to the Simba/Scripts folder or have the user specify where it should automatically go.

http://wizzup.org/simba/article/2 says that you can go to View > Extensions and enable srl.sex, yet it's not there for me? Do I have to download it…?

Other than that (and the InvertTPA problem I just made a thread about), the only problems I get are with WINE.

1. (As stated by i luffs yeww) Doing CTRL + A on the debug box highlights the script.
2. The console shows on startup even though LastConfig->Console->Visible is set to False.
3. Code hints are only working for things inside the script (procedures I made, constants, variables… WriteLn, Wait, etc etc does not show when I do CTRL + SPACE).
4. Not all functions are listed in the FunctionList, and the ones that is there should be sorted alphabetically imo.

No major bugs though :) Works great for me! Much more stable than SCAR 3.23 Beta

That happens sometimes if you make a syntax error somewhere (like forget a semicolon) or you have {} inside a statement. Look carefully at where the function list stops and see if there's anything unusual.

Most times, when I close Simba, the client closes, then reopens, and freezes, so I have to task manager it away. I haven't updated for a week though, maybe that was fixed..

Plus the debug thing is broken for me too.

Status is the bottom of the script where (in SCAR, haven't really looked in Simba) the script said "Script running" etc and you could have it say things that it was doing, without clogging the debug box.

Writeln is the debug box.

AddtoReport is in SCAR only and adds to the report box.

Status should not do Writeln, it should do status. Try it in SCAR, you'll see the difference.

And status doesn't work because there is no status bar.

*Generally more stable while running.

Monitors for me =]. I don't know if this is related to the monitor thing, but sometimes the mini icons don't go away after I close and that just loads up the taskbar. Also, I cannot content from simba screen on one machine (lets call it 1) to simba screen on another machine (lets call it 2) while in any sort of RD connection; however I can copy from scar (1) to simba (2) in the same session. :)

Fantastic program. I am looking forward to a power release.

Disguise can be used as a pseudo-status bar.

Nava2

2010-07-01 02:02:45

I think debug filtering could almost be better than the status bar.

tarajunky

2010-07-01 03:16:02

If a Status bar is too hard to add, and Disguise would be easier to add, why not add it?

There is a bunch of information that can be displayed in real-time that can be helpful if you want to check on a script. Stuff that would only serve to clutter the debug box, and has little value for recording purposes.

Scar had Disguise, Status, Debug, AND Report functionalities. Trying to cram everything into one Debug box seems like a big step back to me. At least Disguise could serve as a poor man's status bar.

Ogre

2010-07-01 04:06:02

I don't remember if I filed a bug about this, and I don't know if it's still a bug, but once when I was trying to use Disguise() it only showed the text up to the first space in the string, I think.

Also, I think Simba's text finding (ctrl + f) could be better. Being able to search upwards/downwards or from the top or bottom, an option to match whole words only, and a find a replace would be nice.

1)
Most of the time, I can't browse through the functions in "Include", over in the Functionlist. Reason unknown. Windows 7, running as admin. Doesn't work when not run as admin either.

2)
Nested codehints. I'm not sure if this is something you ever intented, but it surely isn't there and it's a shame.

3)

program new;
begin
Writeln(
IntToStr(
end.
I'm not sure how this should really work (perhaps it already works as intended). But if you write "Writeln(", then the codehint for Writeln pops up. But if you then change lines and write "IntToStr(", you still only see the codehints for Writeln. Perhaps it should rather show codehints for the line you are on.

Show commit messages in the SRL Updater?

That's what I meant. But if there is any other way to see what was changed in SRL from simba it's okay for me.

Another thing came to my mind.
In scar there was ctrl+shift+i/u, to intend/un-intend(2 space) every line that was selected. Is there something like that in simba? If not can you please add it? *puppy eyes*

Now that I am trying things in simba I just discovered that you can't delete a color from the color picker using delete(on the keyboard).

Sorry that I'm not using the bug-tracker, but I am unfamiliar with it.(and I'm afraid of making an inappropriate ticket)

Yeah, that way it is harder to show commit messages. I could probably upload the latest message to my server and have it display that, but seems hardly worth it. :)

Seeing there are a lot of GUI changes requested (Status and Disguise are also GUI related), we will probably postpone them until some initial public release. GUI related changes tend to be a bit more fragile…

701 seems to be quite stable and would do quite well for a first release. I will probably be with limited access to internet the next few days so I hope I can do it tomorrow, and then we'll see how it goes…

The only change really required is the Form(Modal!) in the SRL Updater extension that doesn't cause it to crash if you close Simba while updating SRL. And API calls.
