It might show that he knows how to use a variety of techniques, but it doesn't have to. A good scripter knows when to use a simple FindColor over a DDTM. Why should you change something that works?.
It's the voters' responsibility to decide whether or not certain techniques are necessary in those situations. It's the applicant's responsibility to use them where appropriate and to pick a script that will allow him to showcase his talent without making unnecessary additions. And what R1ch is saying is that it will show that he has the
ability to use those techniques, but, again, it is the applicant's responsibility to show that ability appropriately.

I honestly don't understand how you can judge a script by looking at what kind of techniques it uses. Sure, correct use of DDTMs and TPAs are always nice, but it's not needed to become SRL Member. If a scripter knows what he's doing in a script, contributes and wants to learn, he's worthy of becoming a member
You can't judge a script, but you can judge a scripter's array of knowledge by the techniques he uses (and you could also dock him if he uses that knowledge when he doesn't need to). And then, if he knows what he is doing in that specific script, that doesn't guarantee that he will be able to do the same for other scripts actually need DTMs, TPAs, etc.
As for if it should be enough or not, I don't think a consensus has been reached in that debate despite several recent discussions. If you want to get in, your best bet is trying to please everyone: Go color, use advanced techniques (but make sure they're used appropriately), be active/helpful in the community and so on. Personally I would vote yes on a huge reflection script, because even though that doesn't necessarily portray a good scripting ability, it tells me you're willing to put a lot of effort and time into it, and you will be able to contribute significantly to the community through reflection.
