We seem to be in a interesting situation (SRL). As most of you probably read by now KBot has now been taken down by Jagex. Which should give us some concern - Jagex is hunting. Probably a wise decision the first time to close registration when RSBot was shut down. However I don't think this would stop Jagex from shutting us down if they really wanted too.
One thing we have going for us is the way we bot, mostly by color. Because the software is there (Simba/scar) even if they did stop the site people could continue to bot doing it themselves. Unlike java bots that require constant updates for hooks etc.
With our setup we potentially have the most powerful botting software for Runescape using Color & Reflection. Not to mention all the extra goodies that will be added to Simba down the road.
One of the questions that was brought up is to open registration. Once again this is another good opportunity, unfortunately not everything is ready. The question on my mind is, when we do re-open and we get a mass of people coming here to bot RS once again, will Jagex target us?
Its more or less a mix of thoughts I've been thinking of lately. If you can piece it together in a nutshell it would be: we have something really good cooking lets hope Jagex doesn't try to steal it.

Yeh was thinking the same..I think its a good time to reopen, we could do everything that needs to be done by Tuesday (when Kbot closes), and I think if Jagex wanted us down they would have already tried. This could be a good chance for us to get some activity back.
The main question is: Has Jagex not targeted us because they respect our autoing philosophies (blending in and being ninjas, thus causing little to no harm), because we're not breaking any laws (reflection recently fixed, not sure if it's illegal, but we still had it semi-functional when the lawsuits came out IIRC), or because we're currently too small of a target?
They would know they can't kill autoing, they can just play catch-up and try and target communities. Either way they're giving the admins the option of closing down before they try to take them to court, so even if we reopened and drew attention there would be a period of time where we could plan our actions.
Best case scenario: We push to get restructuring done and Simba released publicly by Tuesday, we PM the KBot admin to spread the word that we're opening, that we've got reflection, and that we're harbouring the lost members, and activity increases alot and we're back on top.
Worst case: We do nothing and miss this opportunity. Or we reopen and Fawki receives a letter telling him to close down or risk a lawsuit, in which case we close registrations again, change domain and go igcognito.

Hmm, yes… Interesting…
It would be gutsy to open right after this KBot drama, but it would fetch us a lot of users and more data hopefully. Right now though, we don't have something nearly as attractive as KBot. Or as secure. And I really dislike reopening to the public without having something solid beneath our feet. Our community right now is still torn between SCAR and simba.
@Claw, are you going to be the one to vie for Kosaki's vouch? If we are going to go through with this, now would be the best time.

Like I said I think timing is the issue. Majority of the users are leecher type - meaning they just want to download 1 program and download script(s) and it works perfect first time. This is just my theory. Currently Simba isn't setup for that quite yet. Its not "noob friendly" yet. Also majority of the scripters are in java, so… yeah I don't know if it would be a success in either case.

I was thinking it would be best if Wizz or Fawki asked him, although I was speaking to him in #kbot last night (the real him, not the troll) about reflection vs. kbot, and he said he'd like to talk later. Didn't mention a link to us on his forums, but I've got an "in" if need be. RM is also on speaking terms with him

I'm friends with Kosaki also, so if you'd like me to talk with him I'd be happy to do that as well.

Despite the fact we closed regs, activity has stayed at a constant level. This can only mean one thing: We are a community! Though active are 463, 200 visit every day. I am very proud of this, and I would hate to give it up.
Jagex has never taken any action against us, simply because we impose no thread to them. We are but a marginal group. Jagex doesnt care about our philosophy (save for the money aspect maybe); if we would be a big community, they would have hunted us down long ago.
Personally, I dont mind we are small, but in the light of the future we ought to open up. A closed community is a dead community.
In the end, our member system has prooven to be a good system. It separates the Consumers from the Talents. I don't expect our entry-level to radically drop; if we make simba completely noob-friendly it would likely kill us.
I suppose we will always stay the reasonable alternative; frankly Jagex not closing us is more a complement than an insult.

That does really not show your stance tho. Do you think we should take the opportunity and house some of the KBoters, (which will increase focus on reflection) or should we… just let them be.. ?

MY thoughts:
It's a separate community, let them be. If they truly have interest in SRL/Simba when we are reopened let them come.

And are they going to have interest if they dont know we exist/that we're open for registrations?

I wouldn't call it "revival" seems too pompous imo. We aren't a java bot after all.

I would name the thread 'Kosaki's third nipple' if it got people to look at it.

lord saturn, next time don't rush a thread. We could have gotten in touch with kosaki and have made a propper thread with a propper response  That thread looked like we were just trying to hijack members.

Hence why I said "It should probably be Fawki or Wizzup who asks kosaki" not "lordsaturn should probably make a half-assed badly thought out thread which gives real no info and makes us appear as another generic community trying to get members". Now everyone from here has to jump in and try and save our appearances, making lots of users there less likely to join even if an admin there would still decide to make a post explaining the full situation and how it is we can be a transition for their members, which was the plan, as clearly stated.

I don't think it would of helped much anyways. We are just a "color" bot after all. To hard to use. The majority is just a bunch of leechers.

Yes well something had to be done quickly before the community up and left. It was already too late for most of the members.

Then you'd just let them be
