I'm tired of SCAR! :fiery:
Seriously. Every f***ing time I press the run button there comes some sort of error and "Scar has to close". Either I lose a lot of work or I have to re-open scar just to walk into the hands of another error! GetClientDimensions has been broken for a long time and Freddy hasn't been bothered to fix it yet - I'm changing to SIMBA!

wasn't? yea, the wear and tear of running scar has degraded the quality of the program. Maybe I just have a magical computer, but i dont think i have ever gotten any of the errors that people complain about. Scar will crash from time to time when my coding fails, but other than that, no such problems. Since then, and since most other editors require that you save before running/compiling, i do so in SCAR aswell. Maybe you should learn to do the same Zyt3x

Luna does indeed look promising. You can get the pre release here.

The only errors I get with SCAR are the occasional DIB errors. Simba has its bugs too of course, but I do believe Simba is making more progress than SCAR Luna at the moment.

To be honest, i find you all to be ungrateful about what Freddy has done for us.

We'd be nowhere without him, now you're all ragedumping him like intergalactic faggots just to go with your god : Wizzup? 's (and many others, however seems like most of you are using it to be nice to wizzup…) scripting tool.

Ok, SCAR has a few problems, but it is still n°1, and I find it pretty fucked up that people just give him up, despite the fact that this community basically depends (or depended) on him.

I like SIMBA, its nice, smooth and stuff, nice functionalities, however it doesn't seem scriptable yet..

tl;dr : don't be a dickhead and insult / give up on freddy, think about what he has done for you, us, instead of licking ass and going with Simba.

Of course it is ok to prefer Simba, but not to crap on freddy.

We depended on Kaitnieks. SCAR 3.x doesn't do much more than SCAR 2.03. We never ``depended'' on Freddy, in the sense that the community would die without him. We only depended on him to maintain SCAR, in which he did not do too well.

If we had been working with it, and there would be no alternative like Simba, then yes, why not? There are no significant changes except for the uptext algo, but that can also be put in a plugin. (In fact, I had done that when Simba was still a secret, and SCAR's uptext was broken, but I decided not to release it for obvious reasons)

Where did you read Wizzup prefers 2.03?

Look, no one here is trying to put down Freddy. It's just that this thread started with a frustrated person who's been getting errors with SCAR. The only useful comment that he got was "SCAR Luna is on its way". Because the pre-release version is outdated, he might as well try Simba in the meantime?

Some people have good experiences with SCAR. Some people have good experiences with Simba. Some people have good experiences with both. Which program is better may be something personal or probably depends on how and for what you use it.

Simba does in fact have things that SCAR does not, but currently this also goes the other way around.

This is not a Simba vs. SCAR thread and let's keep it that way.

Because SCAR 3.15b still worked quite *OK*. It is after that version that (afaik) SCAR became much more buggy. So right at the start, it was mainly positive stuff. Tabs were added, &c. But if you look at actual functionality for scripts there isn't that much, except for the performance improvements. So ever since 3.15b it has mainly been ``hoping'' that SCAR would be fixed. Then Simba came.

Two things and I will try to keep this short. I will not quote specific people for this. We know who they are and so do they.

What I write may/not be my opinion I am not subjecting you to them. However, please stop b!tching, it is unsightly. Now…

SCAR:
-not MADE by freddy, although freddy did do an acceptable and very much appreciated job keeping it up as a one man show for a while (not open source… I believe that was his choice/fault).
-it is incorrect that SRL would not be here without freddy, it is correct that 2.03 was/is usable.
-we were told that SCAR work would be dwindling, freddy did say that Luna would take priority. Yes, this did leave SRL SOL for anything fixes related to SCAR.
-I with more compelte dedication from freddy, I am looking forward to Luna.
-even as this is true, as a community we could not just sit here and wither as we waited for Luna to (hopefully) shine.
-freddy, thank you for the work you have done with SCAR

SIMBA:
-in response to relational developments with SCAR development and the need for the community to not whither (different than wither), a fantastic & open source counterpart was born.
*yes, at this point, I did hear the circle of life music in my head:
Nants ingonyama bagithi baba (There comes a lion)
Sithi uhhmm ingonyama (Oh yes, it's a lion)

Nants ingonyama bagithi baba
Sithi uhhmm ingonyama
Ingonyama

Siyo Nqoba (We're going to conquer)
Ingonyama
Ingonyama nengw' enamabala (Here is a lion and a tiger)

& et cetera…

-the point is, things change don't get pissed because SRL is not aligning to be centered on SCAR
-NO simba is not YET as capable as SCAR but seriously ?!? how long has it been alive/available?
-SIMBA enforces the community learning/helping ideals, and that is what the real SRL community is about.
-developers/testers, thank you for the work you have done with SIMBA

That point goes both ways, I have to make changes to my scar scripts for simba….

I feel that my original statement gave justice (it was a total compliment), and it was true, for how long simba has been out, it is fascinating/amazing/great how much it is able to do. As this is true, NO it does not have all the functionality and tools that scar does. That is a fact, how one wants to look at it is up to them though ;). That also being true, simba is able to do things that scar was not able to do, it is also more user friendly while coding. That again is a fact. So, yes and no, they have there differences, they are both better, and they are both worse. :)

Simba is a growing phenom and daily is better and better. Originally, there was no bitmap to string, vice versa, and so on. But that list is very much dwindling. I am truly excited to see the accomplishments and phenomenal growth.

It's inconvenient in that updating could occur every day. I don't know if you're as lazy as I am or not, but I dislike having to fix things every single day. If you remember SCAR when 2.03 was out and it was stable for like a year or something, you'll understand the difference between what is convenient or not.

once simba is more or less finished (or closer to) then there will be less and less updates, although there is always something to improve in anything ;). Luna works fine, except for some weird include problems that i've had (Copy working scar code into Luna… Luna finds includes, but says there's error in include.. include copy pasted.. scar works).

Progress. I'm sure if Kaitnieks decided to quit after SCAR 1.00 we may not even be here today. I haven't really taken an in-depth look at SIMBA as I just started visiting again recently, but it seems to have nearly matched the functions of SCAR. I haven't seen many benchmarks yet, but I trust the crew behind it.

I think it will be better than SCAR. Not because SCAR is junk, but because SCAR is an amazing program and any program inspired by it with an excellent active developing team and an open-source base is almost guaranteed to succeed.

Hello everybody. :)
