MSI Scripting Competitions

This was a quick idea I just had.

Make a competition where people use the MSI include.

Results:
- Many scripts that can be plucked into MSI ;)
- Raised awareness of MSI
- (Team scripting?)

Discuss? :)

I really like that idea honestly.

It could even be used for specific parts of scripts we need done.

When MSI perhaps becomes a little more popular, what do you think about an "MSI Contributor Cup" or something along those lines. That way we could still reward people for their contributions without having too many people with write access.

I love that idea!
It must follow MSI Scripting standards though, but I guess that isn't a problem…
Idk about a cup though.. :P

Cohen diz:
Elaborate on the competitions idea
Well yeah know… that too lol

Dd diz:
Well, about the competitions.. basically SRL Members haven't had a lot to excite them lately. And MSI didn't get any propper attention.

Make a competition where they have to use the MSI include (after the guide is finished) and so they'll pretty much be writting scripts that can be plucked into MSI
that'll raise their awareness and familiarity with the MSI Include, and get them interested in MSI in general (hopefully)

Cohen diz:
I see that's a good idea. I don't know how well they'd be able to use the include itself because it relies on items/objects that are included in MSI
Like they would have to edit their include to have objects/items/walking paths
Stuff like that

Dd diz:
{.include SRL/SRL/MSI/Setup.scar}

Cohen diz:
Yeah I know, buit
*but
Oh wait nvm

Dd diz:
They would have to make their own objects and etc. Those can be added to MSI Have them doing it MSI Fashion!
And have one of the criteria being MSI Compatability

Cohen diz:
Yeah no I just had another blank moment

Dd diz:
(mind if I post our convo?)

Cohen diz:
Actually idk.. I'm confusing myself
Lol no go ahead
If they needed to create their own TObject/TItem, they would have to add it to their MSI include because the way MSI is setup, they wouldn't be able to just call upon their own LoadItem function

Dd diz:
I see. I guess they could just submit that along with the rest.
Basically, all we'd have to do is use a diff to check for changes

Cohen diz:
Yeah. There's really no reason why they would have to change any of the core (other than adding their own items/objects)
Oh, they'd also have to add their own constants
But I think that's it

Dd diz:

Should be. Sounds good then?

Cohen diz:
Yeah, let me read the threads you made :)

About the cup: We'd need enough contributors first ;)

Edit: I guess we'd be judging the scripts… Or perhaps us + a few chosen people.

Yeah, definitely. I just figured I would bring it up.

We need SOMETHING to motivate people to help out. I'm assuming the competition winner(s) would receive the Competition Cup?

Yes, certainly.

And perhaps all participants that got something into the include would get MSI Contributor cup ;) That would be a great moment to bring it in:D

(yes, I'm revising for my marketing exam which is tomorrow xD)

Excellent!

If someone knows a good rwt method, we should have ingame prizes :)

Maybe just have the option since I'm assuming not everyone that enters the competition will actually play RS. :p

We would fist need someone to leak us a method though. I'm not so sure as I see that happening..

ok if we do this we must have a grading area for proper implementation of the includes, and the extensive use of the includes (less foreign proc/func(s) the better).

I would assume we give people an open window for the script idea and direction, we wouldn't want 5 VEM's.

lastly, I don't think we should do a competition cup, alas we would be stuck to grading one winner. Instead if we have a "MSI cup" or contributors cup, we could then hand out the cup to any scripts that make it into MSI's svn, and maybe even toss a competition cup to the #1 regardless. Although cups might not be that exciting, people do enjoy them haha.

I think RM mentioned something along those lines when we were talking on MSN. I like the idea. :)
