I don't remember any reason that this account would have been banned. I'm not really familiar with the term macroing other than its use in Microsoft Excel. Is there anything I can do about this? I worked hard on this account and would be sad if I didn't have it, at least as a keepsake. It represents many of my accomplishments. I really value that.
Thanks, and let me know if there is anything else I can do.

Errr… I've been maging with a level 1 def account at the rats below varrock, and have been leveling mage to then be able to superheat, for which is why I spent COUNTLESS HOURS mining, and now for some reason you guys ban me. I'm sorry, but I do believe you made a mistake and I would be very unlikely to start another account after all the time I put into this one, just due to you guys having some flacky banning system. Can a person not honestly play a game anymore to relieve stress WITHOUT GETTING BANNED? I mean thank you. I wasted so much time on runescape, which took time away from my family, so I guess YOU'VE JUST DESTROYED MY RELAXATION HABBIT. So if you please could, unban my account, so I don't go crazy due to my wife bearing the child of another man, I would be very happy. Don't blame me for playing an addictive game addictevely - you made it so. Please correct this mistake. (as soon as possible!)
Maybe we can make a list of ban appeals and see what works :)

suicide appeals don't work ;) or if they do/did, it's not worth the risk…

i know, but you said maybe we can make a list of what works, and there are 2 ways to make a list.
list stuff that fulfills the requirements, or list stuff that breaks the requirements :) so if we know what doesn't work, we are closer to knowing what does

watch it buddy…I have a key to your room next year ;)
I just had an account banned (one of my nineteen miners, which is disheartening).
Appeal:
"I work hard. I didn't break any rules. "
I didn't have very high hopes.
Edit:
This did remind me of an appeal I had pending, and… Appeal Accepted! This was an account that received an additional last chance appeal for whatever reason. I'm sure most of you remember the "expired" status that Jagex gave out to a bunch of account. I got the second option to appeal it after about two years of it being banned, and it was accepted 4 months after the appeal was sent in. 27-Dec-2009 to 20-Apr-2010.
Last chance appeal #2 (Success):
"I don't remember any reason that this account would have been banned. I'm not really familiar with the term macroing other than its use in Microsoft Excel. Is there anything I can do about this? I worked hard on this account and would be sad if I didn't have it, at least as a keepsake. It represents many of my accomplishments. I really value that.

I'm under the impression that it was decided that my appeal would be accepted as soon as I was offered the chance to do so. However, that doesn't explain why it was a 4 month process.

If that were true, Jagex banning your account would be doing you a favor IMO. Honestly if I was a JMod and read that I would keep you banned so maybe you can get some real accomplishments.

harsh Hobbit, lol
But true.
I believe they sort of randomly pick some appeals that sound reasonably sane and the crime wasn't too bad, and then unban them.

Yes yes I know bad shoop job :p
P.S.
If you don't understand or have never heard of/seen crackerjacks before, google it.
I have two more accounts to write up appeals if anyone wants me to try anything in particular.

Same generic message, all three days after appeal was sent.

They are wanting autoers who fit in with the masses and who don't cause obvious harm to the legits - as in, the only reason they would ever ban someone for autoing is if they are making it obvious to the other players that there's an easier way of doing things. As long as Jagex get their $5 and the legits arent aware, we're just another market audience to them. Happy to give them money if it means we dont have to play their game (lol).
That explains accounts not getting banned for getting in loops they would almost certainly detect but after getting reported, getting banned. Probably a "report threshold" before they ban you - once you stick out a certain amount from the crowd, you're gone. Which makes me think appeals are next to useless - we've all seen screenies of accounts unbanned even though the appeal was ridiculous, while seemingly good appeals fail. Because if they see you're drawing attention towards autoing, they don't care about how much you like the game or how much work you put in - they don't want too many people knowing about autoing so they cut you off.
They still want your money though, which is why they do the last chance appeals and amnesty's every so often - they know at least some people will come back and auto on members again, maybe even start playing legit if it's an old account they're sentimentally attached to. So they ban you for a bit (time in limbo), unban you and make you feel lucky/priveledged to start playing again, which draws you back into paying except this time you'll automatically be alot more careful, and try even harder to not draw attention to yourself.
So by banning, they make it look like theyre doing something about the autoer "problem" to the legits (their posts about how theyre cracking down on autoers, when they ban them, publishing total time played of accounts banned and so on, to prevent mass amounts of legits quitting or starting autoing), it sends a message to us that they're agaisnt us and watching us to make us more careful, and they still get their money after unbanning.
So I think: Jagex will easily see through all the appeals in this thread and nearly all of the other ones I've seen, so the only worthwhile appeal would be just being upfront but even then they probs won't unban you…they'll unban you when they're ready to. Because if they let it known theres a "magic appeal" for immediate unbanning, we wouldnt bother trying to be discreet about autoing and breaking other rules.
Thats the balance theyve constructed…fitting in with that is the only way to not get banned. Cat and mouse and cat and mouse and cat and mouse
While I agree with some of the ideas you mentioned, the whole deal seems a little far-fetched. I'm sure they ban accounts that they deem worthy regardless. They just don't put in as much effort as many people make it seem. They rely completely on the report and player moderator system, it seems, assuming their "he clicked on the same fucking pixel for an hour and a half" detection system fails.
I also don't really see any way to get around the appeal system. It's automated. It just is.
