Who's rooting for who?

Personally, I'm going for Hung Parliament because I despise David Cameron.

I would not vote for leaders who have young kids. TBH, it just takes away from the time they could be giving to the people.

Therefore, I would not vote for anyone of them. But if I do, and if I can, i would vote for Gordon, because he seems like he got more of an idea of a regular human being by suffering loss of daugter, and some wacky relationship changes. :).

It tends to be the other way around. Politicians tend to spend more time away from their family than with.

emm, I don't base my vote on who has children or a dead sister.

I voted for Nick Clegg's party because I agree with their policy to get rid of the medieval, discreditied and undemocratic First Past The Post voting system.
And you know what? The Lib Dems gained my constituency away from Labour!

Unfortunately, practically every constituency in Kent was Conservatives, the bastards.

But I agree, we need a new electoral system. STV, perhaps?

STV would do nicely.

Otherwise we might have to get Africans coming over to inspect our elections, and maybe American can liberate us and steal our oil.

And Canadians can pee on your cars (American Jiggalo anyone?)

I don't know anything about the elections personally, I didn't even know that there was an extremely different type of election there. Time to do some reading I guess.

Canada uses First Past The Post too, in fact I believe they had a referendum on STV which was defeated a few years back.

Huh, I'm not old enough to vote yet, but I actually like the way that voting works here. It doesn't take a year like in the States.

3Garrett3, you have first past the post, a really terrible voting system. Read the criticisms of it, you're likely to be shocked.

i hope you don't mind me copypasting from another Canadian gentleman.

The voting system is pretty stupid here in Canada as well. We've got two main parties, Conservatives and Liberals, and two 3rd parties, New Democrats and Bloc de Quebecois. Just looking at the two 3rd parties, New Democrat Party got 2.5M votes 37 seats, Quebecois got 1.4M votes 49 seats. NDP always get screwed over. We always have minority gov'ts.

The NDP and Quebecois are close ideologically but they'd never join together, the French want to maintain their nationalist party.

Currently we've got the Canadian version of David Cameron as our Prime Minister (evil Stephen Harper).

I don't believe anything that he said. Personally, I think the NDP have lots of good ideas. They have less recognition in the federal elections, but if you look at provincial governments now, there are multiple provincial governments with NDP systems. In my province, the NDP currently has a majority government, and I personally think that they are doing a relatively good job. They actually get something done, rather than the liberals and conservatives that have held minority places for the last decade.

The BQ are a group of crazy french people who want to separate Quebec from the rest of Canada (AFAIK). I don't think that they get any votes anywhere but in Quebec.

This is about the voting system, not the parties policies?

I'm quite sure we managed to get way off topic, sorry.
