New Rank: SRL Guild Member

I am working on a new concept of SRL Guild Members. These are SRL Members that actively maintain at least one Public script that is distributed through SIMBA's coming Script Manager.

SRL Guild Members are expected to maintain their Public script(s). They will loose their Guild status if their script(s) become outdated. Guild Members can also form cooperative Guilds. Scripts are stored in a versioning repositery.

Guild Scripts should ideally be linked through a statssystem with the forum username (SRL ID coupled to username), giving us the opportunity to make Guild Script Fans, rewarding scriptrunners with instant avatars or signatures. Lets race to the top once again, remember the old days?

The Guild Scripts are published and commented as normal in a thread, but are downloaded from SIMBA's Script Manager.

Guild Members Scripts are supposed to be top-of-the-bill, so I suspect the threshhold to grow over time. Guild Members can be proposed/choosen by public as well as by us. It is a very honourary title.

Guild Scripts will be distributed through SIMBA -provided you have installed the Script Manager- and will IMHO provide a positive boost to our community.

Sounds interesting. Guild Membership would very much suggest a high scripting ability.

4 questions:
How high would the bar be set for guild membership? (Scripting skills)

If a person has more than one script, and one of them becomes outdated, does the person lose the status even tho the person still has active script(s) ?

How would the person gain guild status in the first place?

How would the person regain it, if they lost their status?

Awesome! Top Stats, here I come =p. (maybe not)

Very nice idea though. Would definitely help us attrached people here with the 'easy' user-friendly way to bot.

Does the status necessarily mean that they are a very good scripter, or just just have a released script that runs well?

I see this as 1 rank higher than SRL Member, like SRL Member (Or higher ranked people) who actually still script/maintain a script. Is that correct?

It seems like the idea is recognising people for their work in active development. That's definitely something missing right now. Do it. If Script Stats records so much usage within the past week, the scripter receives "Guild Status". It can be completely automated.

Great idea! :) You should add some more things to the rank such as a slightly larger avatar or something along those lines. I know it isn't much, but I think we should add whatever we can so people will maintain their scripts.

Sounds good. I say threshold should be based more on how well (length and/or failsafes) a script runs than how leet the code is.

I think having this script manager system where users can run a script and know it's going to work is great. However I think there also needs to be something to help people that released scripts in beta that are working up to this level to get testers and feedback. No sure how to go about it though.

My scripts are hopefully good enough. Seems like a low standard to me :)

If a person has more than one script, and one of them becomes outdated, does the person lose the status even tho the person still has active script(s) ?

Hm.. Havent given this any thought.

How would the person gain guild status in the first place?

Many Members and even non Members keep Scripts alive today. Those are the initial Guild Members, I'd say. If they are willing to become one, that is.

How would the person regain it, if they lost their status?

Hm.. Havent given this any thought too.

Well, here's my set of (suggested) answers:

How high would the bar be set for guild membership? (Scripting skills)
Any script that can run for 6h on one player and includes Anti-Randoms and rests.
if a person ran 3 players and the script ran for 18h + then it meets the standards :)
I believe 6h is a good number to be considered reliable. It would also be close to the average timeplay / day of a legit (I believe).

If a person has more than one script, and one of them becomes outdated, does the person lose the status even tho the person still has active script(s) ?
No. One active script is enough, although the other scripts would of course be marked as outdated.

How would the person regain it, if they lost their status?
The same way they got it in the first place. Get a script that runs for 6h+ on one player with Antirandoms and rests. (This may just simply mean updating the previously outdated script)

I believe a time limit would be required after losing the status. Like a week or 2 before they can be promoted back. This way it encourages to keep the script in working order (the whole point of Guild-ship).

Also some scripts can last a very long time, how will we consider these?

That might mean they'll wait two weeks to update the script ;) If there'll be a penalty make it a 24h one. Means that people will have enough time to update their script and give it a nice run, from which they can get a 6h + proggy :)

Considering this system will be linked to the forums & stats (script manager) we could make it so the script manager was able to allow the user to sort it by a few variables such as:

Average time/Run, Estimated XP/H, Estimated GP/h, Author, Author Rank, Last Updated
Click Script Name to go to a description of the script.

[——————————————————————————————————–]
[ Time/Run | XP/h | GP/h | Script Name | Version | Author | Rank | Last Updated ]
[——————————————————————————————————–]
[ 9:34 | 7.3 k | 70 K | RM Guild Miner | 6.54 | Rast Magician | Dev | 28 Apr 2010 ]
[ 13:29 | 12.5 k | 25 K | Draynor Chop N Bank | 6.54 | Coh3n | Dev | 14 Apr 2010 ]
With 'Rank' taking into account Masters / Scripters cups.

How does that sound? :p

Should have clarified, why is rank/cups relevant to the 'guild' concept… I thought it was more or less a place you recieve as a "reward" per say.

I think this is a great idea. It would motivate people to create and maintain Simba scripts which is nice. I also love this script manager because it will help people find up-to-date working scripts.

Maybe I'll try to go for the rank myself ^^.

Well, you have to set a standard of who to give the reward to:

Any script that can run for 6h on one player and includes Anti-Randoms and rests.

But as you can imagine, there are several such scripts.

Usually, the higher up in rank you are, the better you are at scripting; (It's a natural assumption to make). As you want to make sure you're character is safe, it is important to know how good the script it.

All the scripts in the guild would be good, but further narrow it down, you show rank. Rank usually represents skill.

Does it matter what type of script?

I mean, my smither has gotten me from 58-80 smithing, and is great. I wouldn't mind sharing it, but it requires a member, a couple quests, and I think a decent level. Single player, as well.

Not a bad idea, but it's the cup suppose to be for exceptional scripting ability? I mean, someone could very easily make a basic script that'll run for 10 hours.

Instead of creating a new standard how about we make them equal, with the only exception for active guild membership to be maintaining a working script.

e: could easily be incorporated into the already existing stats/script manager whatever , because looking on that page there is already an "outdated" property for each script

I would like that better then the guide membership being about how long the script runs. Like I said, a very simple script that doesn't show much scripting ability can be made and run for hours.

Well, this would be unfair to anyone who we haven't awarded the scripting cup to yet, due to us not having noticed certain people who are sure to be out there with great skills.

If guild membership is only for scripter cup+ then we'll never really pay much attention to those who don't have the scripter cup. Even if they make a great script, as it isn't in 'the guild', most people will just simply not use it..

Doesn't make sense either, because a simple fletcher can run for hours and does not require much scripting skill (read: enough for scripters) in order to make it.

Yeah, I would rather see a script run for 10 hours that isn't advanced than a script that runs for 5 hours and is super advanced. :p I'm sure most people would feel that way.

This is such a great point. It would be a step between SSRL and SRL members, maybe, and people would make scripts to shoot for a new title. Hopefully, they put effort into it, but Town has a good point that we would see more scripts out.

I just re-read through this thread and the script manager thread.

Seems like an obvious thing to join these two.

Script Manager
- Guild Scripts
- Verified Scripts
- [x] (Click to Show) - Unverified Guild Scripts (updates)
- [x] (Click to Show) - Unverified Scripts

Also, if we are going to do Guild Membership by the amount of time a script runs on one char, we should do this from within our stats system, rather than relying on proggies, as a fake proggie is obviously easy to make.
(This would also allow it to be automated [Verified -> Guild] )

To gather up a couple of mainpoints from the other thread:

Updating a script is like uploading a new script
Use diffs to verify updates

From: Work Flow

Upload script
–> Unverified

Download script
–> if Verified
– –> Download
–> if Unverified
– –> Pop Up
– – –> If accepted, download

(if member = Verifier)
if Verified
–> Click 'verified' button
else
–> Click 'Deny' button
– –> Removal of script from Database (duh)
– –> Banning user from uploading scripts
– –> Informing staff (somehow)

From: drags111
I like this plan as well, but it means people are going to have to be less trigger happy when it comes to updating, such as not updating at every small little thing. It just seems like it can get to become a hassle, if someone needs to make a small update (a one liner) and they have to get it verified every time.

How SRL members or something like that can get auto-verified on their scripts, and add a "Report This Script" into the database, just in case. What do you think?

No. Many SRL Members have been banned for stealing accounts in the past.

What can be done is allowing two versions.
Meaning
version 1: verified;
version 2: unverified;

version 1 stays in verified scripts until version 2 is verified. If version 2 is accepted it replaces version 1, else version one remains.

In my opinion, drop the verification part and just create a 'report' button in the manager, which will report the script as bad (and after X reports automatically block the script).

I disagree with the dropping the verification, but I do like the report idea. Would flag the scripts for the verifies.
Automatically blocking a script could lead to people blocking each other on purpose.

And a cherry on top of the cake:
From: Widget
How about a line that says "This script has an unverified update available. If there has been a recent update that breaks compatibility with this script, you may update to the latest unverified version, but be aware that there is always a risk of having your account stolen." or something along the lines of that for when there's updates?

Hey there, bumping up this thread because I believe it is a worthwhile proposal that should be adopted :) It will provide a LOT of encouragement for new (and old alike) scripters to continue to maintain their scripts - especially during the time we are in now, being one of the leaders of RuneScape cheating. Especially now that the script manager is close to being completed.

Reopen for discussion? :)
