me says:
*BLUE CAN ONLY FUCKING HAPPEN IF LIGHT WAVES 'ALLOW' IT TO HAPPEN!
*WHAT THE FLYING FUCK IS YOUR PROBLEM
*answer this.
*"heavan / hell are blue"
*THAT ASSUMES THEY'RE BLUE, YES!?
Lance says:
*it says they are blue
me says:
*yes or no, faggot.
*YES OR NO
*not much writing.
Lance says:
*ok no, it dosnt assume anything
me says:
*wtf.

He initially said

Lance says:
*"shouldnt the fact that god's existance has no major consequences itself raise a red flag"
*how does god's existance have no major consequences?
me says:
*meaning that if you don't accept a deity, you can still live your life perfectly fine.
Lance says:
*yeah your life
*but that dosnt mean there are no consequences
*heavan / hell are the biggest consequences I could think of
me says:
*that's assuming there are such places, which is ignorant.

The main point is the bolded part. Is saying "heavan / hell are the biggest consequences I could think of" assuming that Heaven and Hell exist?

This is not about religion at all, and it will be considered spam if it's brought up. It's merely about the use of words.

There is no spam in this forum but he could be implying possible consequences..

It's not about the word consequences. It's about the word "are." If I say "Heaven/Hell are blue," that assumes that Heaven/Hell are blue, yes?

"There is no spam in this forum" it's spam here, in the FAQ section, or in the Pictures section. If it is spam, it is spam.

Yeah actually that's pretty much it, so I admit I was wrong. I was thinking if god exists, then going to heavan and hell would be very real consequences. And so going back to the very start, am I not right in saying that Gods existence does have consequences?

Which god exactly? Humans have made up thousands, or have you thought up your own one?

any god(s) that by existing would cause heavan and hell also to exist, I am sure we are all familiar with the Judeo-Christian God. I don't really see what that has to do with this argument though.

It might be spam but I doubt it would be enforced or anything as post count does not count here.

It has consequences, however Heaven is not a consequence. Hell, on the other hand, is.
I am Christian. Nothing is going to change my views or beliefs. I have mine, others have theirs. Who am I to try and change their mind?

Places like Heaven and Hell do not exist hand in hand with all other religions regardless of if there is a God or not..many religions may have them but not all so you can not say that a God existing would mean that Heaven and Hell would also exist.

Well heavan and hell are places, not consequences. But the event of heavan and hell existing could be a consequence of the event of the christian god existing, as if he did exist they would as well (consequence: he effect, result, or outcome of something occurring earlier)

And as I said to GoF; that's why I said any god that by existing, would make heavan and hells exist as well. It doesn't actually matter which of these gods we talk of, as I didn't specify anything other than the god and heavan / hell having a causal relationship. But in my mind I was thinking of the Judeo-Christian God.

Again, this isn't about heaven or hell or anything about religion. Please stop.

All I want to know is if saying "Heaven/Hell are consequences" assumes they exist? Yes or no.

Lance

2010-04-06 15:33:20

I guess, but this was my reasoning before: they are consequences so they are dependent on a cause, if that cause (being god existing here) was not true, then it wouldn't be true that they exist.

But then I looked up the definition of a consequence and realized that it cant be used that way. So yeah, I suppose it does.

No. Saying that heaven and hell are consequences are just saying that they are consequences. It is, at least imo, not implying that they exist or not, it is just stating that from anyone's point of view, they are consequences, whether they are mythological consequences or real consequences is irrelevant.

Infantry001

2010-04-06 15:56:05

No, that's not the case.

He didn't say "Heaven and Hell are consequences", which, in that case, you would be correct in saying that he is implying they exist.

He said that they're "the biggest consequences I could think of", which doesn't necessarily mean they exist. They're just the worst possible consequences, not that they are real.

BTW everyone, this is a semantics question, not a religious question. Stay on topic ;)

What is the point of this thread? What he said can be interpreted in a number of ways. If he was talking to me I would believe that he meant they would be the biggest consequences if they existed.

It was a poor word choice, oh well. People make mistakes./

Just sayin. It's possible.

I don't care what he meant or anything. I just want to know if exactly what he said implies/assumes they exist. It could be "Testis and ovaries" instead of "Heaven and Hell," I just want to know.

Infantry001

2010-04-06 21:24:36

Ruroken

2010-04-10 17:03:14

No it doesn't assume that they exist.

Heaven and hell are unproven, so I will call them theories. The theory exists, therefore when he says "heavan / hell are the biggest consequences I could think of" he is referencing the existence of the theories and not the actual "places"

g0tp0t

2010-04-11 02:26:54

ah, i finally get your meaning:P yes, that does imply they exist. but it does not necessarily imply that you believe in them. its like dark matter. you HAVE to assume it exists in order to discuss it.

@ruroken, what does ur sigs pic say? coexist? if so whats it mean?

i luffs yeww

2010-04-11 03:22:59

Yes, it says coexist. It's just different ideas/religions/blah to show that he supports them all equally.

Brain

I don't think he supports them equally….more like, everyone go in their own corners to play, and try not to kill each other over such trivialities.

Apparently some people don't read threads. If you would have paid attention whatsoever (blackelvis and ToF (<3 ^^)), you would've seen that I never bashed religion, and I even stated that I would not debate religion. You don't even know his religious views (they're pretty interesting, to be honest).
