I think this needs to be worked on, I don't have the time, and NxTitle stated he started, but I haven't seen any of this.

This needs to be completed for release, so:

Does anyone want to help?
NxTitle, would you mind sharing what you've completed?

Sure, I was thinking of doing this but never got round to it.
If NxTitle doesn't reply, I will start tomorrow :)

I thought you also worked on it with him, and that you made something together? Haven't seen any work from you either…

Yeah, my time is limited. As is my knowledge. There was no intent of an accusation. Sorry if it went that way.

OK. Well…. Features:
  • Search scripts.
  • Script categories.
  • Look nice.
  • Access levels (?)

Think about: Where to place those installed scripts? How will you handle updates to a script?

Adding scripts will be done manually, as they will have to be checked. (Probably with some versioning control system (git?))

Is integration with vBulletin an option?

Should this be web based, or client side. For example, should the client just be a simplified web browser w/ downloading / check sums for the files, or should it just get information from the server, then render everything nice and pretty?

Well, I could make 2 Repositories.
1 for FFA/Jnr
and
1 for Members

the FFA/Jr would include their own scripts only.
the Members would include FFA/Jr/Members
With maybe a global password posted in member section?
Could easily do categories.
Not sure how to do the Searching though, maybe someone could help?

The password could easily be leaked..

I'm going to look into doing this now, I've got some free time, and I want to do some web development.

:)

yeah, I was originally going to do it, however I have been uberly busy lately, not even having time for any of my own stuff. also, I fail bad in pascal and lazarus so I have to learn a bit more with laz.

I don't know when I would be able to get back to work on this thing, honestly. :S

How is this web development, really? The web development should be the least of your worries. It can probably be a simple directory list… (with git behind it obviously)
I'll whip something up if you don't have something cool in a week. :p

How would you go about implementing git or another versioning system behind this? :<

Simple. You use git to store the latest scripts, and make a very small web app that lists the scripts in git. If you want auth layers around it, you can make a small database that gives scripts in folders different priorities. It's probably a bit more complex when you want stuff like categories, but I don't see how it will be a big issue.

But would that not allow everyone to see all of the scripts? I know you mentioned the priorities, but it will would all be stored in a central place. If someone had access, it wouldn't change anything..

How will they have access? It's only local. Noone can access it unless he has an account on the server, which only I and a friend @ uni have.

Are you planning on using that? It's a good idea to use it, SQLite is just sex for projects, and if we have a big enough reason to use it, we can integrate other things, settings, recent opened scripts etc into it too (without something like this using SQLite, it's hardly worth adding it)
