Discussion: Reflection Walking Working

If you haven't seen already -> R_WalkPath

I'm not saying use Tad's functions, it's just there for you to read. Anyway, reflection walking is working again (apparently it never broke?). What should we do? I'd hate to put all Blumblebee's and NCDS's work to waste as I'm sure it look a long time to write the walking.

I was thinking of using reflection, then the color functions we have as failsafes. Also, I've personally tested WalkToTile and it works just fine (I edited it to use R_FFlagEx by Tad, however, as the current hooks for the current one return false positives (or negatives?)).

I just thought I should bring this up as it is an important issue. There are also several other things I wish to bring up, but that's for another thread, at a later date.

Cheers,
Coh3n

reflection easier and more accurate than colour walking. It was our original intention to use reflection anyways, so I am not offended if we use reflection at all (makes my life easier with less maintenance haha).

Okay, great. :)

I think you guys should stick to colour!

o.O

EDIT: How come there's an MSI_WalkToTile. Why not just use the one in the reflection include?

I support either decision. I have no problem at all maintaining the current color walking, though, I'm trying to be more lenient with reflection this time.
So, either way I'll be happy!

{$DEFINE USE_REFLECTION}

Colour walks need to be done tho. It won't take long to update them if they are broken next time reflection breaks, but it would take a long time to create them.

A 86%+ walking needs to be in the script, otherwise MSI will break with time, as just about every script does.

I know basically nothing about defines. Will {$DEFINE USE_REFLECTION} actually use reflection instead of color, or…? What? I don't really know… :o

we'd have to set up the $DEFINE stuff, I think someone has a tutorial on using it that you can take a quick look at.

All right so my and NCDS will finish the walking, someone else makes the reflection walking and then we make the $DEFINE stuff for the walking and we're smooth sailing :)

I think that may be the best idea right now. Blumblebee, do you have MSN?

I'll be in touch with you tonight/tomorrow. We have a bit of work to do ;)

{$DEFINE SRL}

{$IFDEF SRL}
writeln('Using SRL');
{$ELSE}
writeln('Not using SRL');
{$ENDIF}

Basically it won't compile the code that is between the no-defined (in this case, $ELSE)

Yeah. I read around a bit, it's really not that hard to understand. :p

I like the way I did MSI_WalkPath.
It searches the furthest tile on MM to walk to and can start walking anywhere on the path, doesn't need to be on the other end.

Yeah I like that too. I was talking about MSI_WalkToTile, but I like yours better than the one in MMWalk.scar. We're going to have to use R_FFlagEx instead of MSI_Flag for now because the FlagDist hooks don't work properly. R_FFlagEx was added a couple days ago. Tad made it, and it doesn't return false negatives like the other R_Flag functions.

The color Flag; doesn't work with Reflection..?

I don't want to load up MSI with a bunch of reflection stuff now. I would prefer to only use it where it is completely necessary.

And get like 3 skills done? Yea right.
Color methods should be written everywhere eventually, but it's sooo slow considering how much walking there will be.

It's really not that bad when you think about it.

A decent AutoColor, TPA(atpa if necessary), and a loop is all that's really needed for a successful walking procedure.
I haven't run into a spot yet where I absolutely could not do it.

Most popular "skilling" places have banks relatively close. I think it could be done. Not saying that it will be, just that it could be.

Yeah I don't see why not. Since it was WalkToTile, my first thought was a reflection Flag.

I understand what your saying. I just would like to keep from over using it. We can do most thing's effectively with color, and I would prefer to do so as much as possible. :)

People have been talking about making color-reflection-hybrid walking and other things like that, and because of the idea of MSI being a fail-safe script, it will get complicated even with short distances.
Besides, MSI will someday support locations outside Varrock too. Edgeville & Karamja fisher will be quite a project for color, as will lumbridge swamp miner.
Priorize reflection walking now to get things rolling, then slowly and steady start writing more and more color walking. I think VEM should be the next milestone.

I wouldn't mind doing that next. Walking for that is extremely simple with color though.

See, I like that. But, if we can make a nice, working hybrid function I think we should use that for places that we have the color walking done, such as the VE Woodcutter.

For new projects, just as a VE Miner, I think we should make it work with reflection walking so people can use it. Then, once it's working properly, we can think about writing the color walking, then move to the hybrid function.
