Going To Start Tutoring Locally. Flyer Ideas Please?

Hey, I've decided to start tutoring people in math.

I'm going to start making a flyer and advertise on mailboxes etc. and was just wondering if you guys had any suggestions of what exactly should be on it, price rates, helpful hints, and anything that will help get more customers.

I'll be tutoring from the easiest math (Basic Math? Pre-Algebra?) up to PreCalculus.

I already tutor two kids right now, helped one of them maintain their A grade, and the other moved from a high D to a B. I also help out kids all the time at my college's tutor center (for free, just because I'm there and get bored of my own HW sometimes :p)

Thanks In Advance For The Advice! <3

Edit: Hmm, would anyone with photoshop/graphics skills be interested in making me a cool flyer/template?

Whoa. I had to do a promotion thing like this for business. :p I'll post some stuff in a little when I get home from work.

my friends charge $20/hr for their tutoring, which is a pretty decent price here.

Anyway. YoHoJo, I'd suggest not charging much. :) I do it (along with some basic computer problem work) for free just because I don't think it's fair to charge people. But anyway. Uhh.. I'll be back home in a little bit.

Why wouldn't you charge? I am thinking of doing a tutoring job just as some little extra money too. People pay money to go to school and NOT understand it, why not charge them to get tutored and understand it?

I would charge =), I have bills to pay too.

Hyper, I don't charge because I'm 16, I don't need money, as I'm 16, and I don't save it, and it makes it less formal and more fun in my opinion. :) And it's just a friendly thing, really. I waste money, so I usually give it to charities or whatever when I get paid. And I don't think I'm like.. the best teacher ever. I probably get too opinionated on some things, but whatever. I don't think it's fair to charge people money for hardly anything, really.

i luffs yeww got an idea of the "perfect world" where strangers may go up to strangers and ask for help when needed. Then the human network is finally completed! I only wish that is the case. Some are, but too few =[. go yeww!

Anyways, just dont bite more than you can chew. Send ads, earn money, but dont get too many kids. Earn a rep as an awsome tutor guy =D, not a money racking w***e. (also, tutor how to be tutors? I dunno xD)

- Talk to schools, some will have students looking for people in math to be tutored. Talking to principles/staff/stuff like that can really help you

- Get your name out there by using friends, being nice (yes, ambiguous… my bad), etc

- Throw an ad in the paper

- Be competitive, I don't mean make smear campaigns :p, but rather offer better prices

- List in your advertisements why you're the better one (ex: my avg is A++ and I'm nothing short of God)

- Be prepare dto have your patience tested, wait until you get an ADD child. Make sure you can handle these kinds of kids.

- Possibly try whoring yourself out to some people for free. That way you can have a good rep

- Ensure you can explain things fundamentally. It would be terrible trying to explain tangents saying "well if you just drop the power and subtract by one you'll get your answer faster + be ready for calc" ;)
Yes I tried that :(, but thats why I dont tutor! heh
