Following the announcement of forum changes, here is the opening of the Junior Member Scripts Forum!

Apologies for no propper renaming and joining of the two for now, but we hope you will enjoy the core value it brings, its scripts and more script users!

Lots o' Love,
The Staff

What the heck ? !!!

cant you guys make a new title for people who are loyal but just don't want to learn scripting. Like for me and FEAR, cartman, Heavenguard (who is learning to script) and maybe a few more.

I badly want to have more access here on this forum.

I mean don't we reached a point that you people trust us more ? I hope you do… I spent much time on here ……. this is just not cool to the people like me :(

So there is a change to become a SRL member without any scripting/code knowledge ? Or to get more access on this forum.

I know people don't appreciate it here on this forum to ask for it but Am I noticed on here to get a promotion ?

Telling this so you don't hate only RM. Being a member that way requires much more to be put down. And it's really rare, I can count it on one of my hand.(since I'm here ofc) I would suggest you to learn scripting and apply with a good enough script if you want to be yellow named. To be honest I think this way is much easier/faster.

Well I dont hate anyone here on this forum. I just was hoping/thinking their could be a new rank for more approved junior members ^^
I dont want to create negative publicity around me to just say this. I was just wondering how my status is here. But yes it is disappointed for me :) Well I hope people can see it also from my point of view. I totally respect RM and I really dont hate him. He is a good ''mainstay'' for this community.

I know I have no reputation here at the forums. Also I can't say I've been here very long but I can understand the situation where in order to obtain a higher rank in the forums that you do something related to the forum. In this case would be scripting and making tutorials. However I can understand what Mat is saying because - I will use myself here- I have knowledge of scripting. Not saying that I'm not good at it because I don't want to try but I am just unable to further myself in the making of scripts due to me not being able to do it.. I do think that as becoming a SRL Junior Member at the time of this not being so public I trully appreciated that trying to be more active and helpful with the scripts (tester, etc..) I was interested in (which have all seized as far as I know besides 2) had purpose. That purpose being to be able to be involved in greater scripts and further myself as a tester. Now I have never seen or known of a "greater" script page. Like Member scripts or whatever.. But giving any registered user the right to "leech" these scripts with no post count at all or feedback I think is unfair to the users who've been around longer and have at leas attempted to help. Even after not getting noticed right away or at all. There are many of us here so I could only imagine how hard it is to see and check on everyone. I'm not questioning whether it was right or wrong because I'm sure you had good reason but it does seem a little unfathomable. Also hearing Blumblebee say that this thread is going private soon, I'm glad this is happening because there are moles here at SRL. Everyone knows that. And making this forum and the scrpts contained here more private and harder to reach will help us "get away" with using them and not have so many pissed off users bad mouthing the community and possible becoming part of the mole community.

My post wasn't enough so I just say it here, I'm totally agree with you. You have done more for sure then a 0 poster lecher and you can still be on the same rank. Doesn't sound too fair for me, I forgot to say. And for the record my vote on this was not to merge FFA and Jnr section, maybe it's just me but I can't see a fairly good reason.

@spart300: I have read that all, but it could be shorter :p. You wrote "thread", maybe just a typo but to make sure you get it right, the whole forum will be private.
Oh and the "bigger members script page" is only there in your minds. We don't have any special page and there is only a few working script.

I tell you a big secret(well, it's well known) that attitude is as important(if not even more) then the script you apply with. Sometimes I don't even look at the script extensively and vote yes because of nice attitude. Means you can get in with slightly worse script.
Yes I am encouraging you to learn, learn and learn then apply with a nice script. I think it's not that hard to learn scripting on that level.
But don't even think about applying without a script!

10 posts and a week of longevity really isn't that hard to achieve. The unfairness to a "good" JM (tests, feedbacks, etc) compared to a bad JM (has some posts and longevity, but effectively just leaches) has always been here.

That is also why there is the Members rank. We assume that anyone who stays around long enough wil either end up learning how to script and applying or getting noticed. We also have cups for such purposes.

As previously stated, there will be changes in the requirements to achieve JM, although the specifics of these are not yet written on stone.

2010-03-03 15:53:46

I think the main problem that Mat is saying is that even though they won't have the rank of "SRL Junior Member" they will still have all the rights when it comes to getting their hands on scripts that before you could only get if you became active. Now that it's easier for brand new users to get their hands on scripts that are well known and work fairly well I think that this will increase the amount of leechers and people who generally don't care. hence "use and abuse" They will use the script until it dies. For me if I was a scripter and people used my script and noone thanked me or wanted to post things that I asked for then I would stop updating it. So I think it kills motivation for alot of people. Not having anything to do with people that script. This is all about the people who try to learn and try to be active so they can reach this place.

Edit: In another way I do agree with Rasta, that is why there is a members rank. However, Like me I cannot script for the life of me. I've tried and tried but angrilly gave up because I could never get them to work as planned. After reading so many tutorials I still could not. So instead, I became an unoficial tester. Helping those who create scripts that I'm interested in and have knowledge about. So i do what I can. But I would just hate to see so many leechers come and ruin so many great scripts that are here. That's my "issue"

All I am saying is that some one with 10 posts and a week activeness shouldn't have the same rights with someone who joined years ago and have puttin in much more effort. I think that the persons who putted in much more effort and time should be separated. Those persons are a small amount of people and I think they deserved it.

I just wanted that the mods cared more about us…. we helped to to building this community up.

spart300

2010-03-03 16:02:24

I do believe the Mods care about us but also like any forum they have to make everyone happy. And if not being able to see the Junior Member scripts makes people unhappy, they will leave. OR in some cases do things that are frowned upon on us. I understand where you are going with this Mat but me, you, and everyone else that isn't part of the circle doesn't know how those newly registered 1-5 post count members will use this new "freedom" until give or take a few weeks and what requirements will be bestowed upon these newly registered members of the community.

Edit: So Mat I don't think you should jump to the conclusion that they don't care about us because there isn't much they can do for us. It's our choice whether we want to further ourselves or be happy where we are. It's just now that new people can do what we at the time couldn't do seems to bother you.. I understand that but some things we just need to understand why.

Well they could give us a little bit more rights like we can go to some exclusive area's on this forum. And what I said before they can create for those a new rank. Its a solution which will make me happier. Now things are just awry and not balanced.

Being a part of this community includes contributing and being helpful. No offense but I haven't really seen you do that very much. I'm not saying that you aren't a great person, I don't even know you. I think that in order to get "special" privileges on these forums you have to actually do something, not just run peoples' scripts and give them progress reports.

spart300

2010-03-03 16:25:59

Yes there will be changes. So you don't know if we will be given something special. But even if we aren't given anything special at least know that they do care about us in a way. Doing this will have its consequences and maybe will even have its breakthroughs. We won't know until time passes. There is no view to change, no perspectives to be given, only time will tell what the newly registered members will decide to do. Leech or help. If all goes truly awry then maybe things will be changed again. I too am curois to know what the changes will be. But would you be happy if the changes that took affect effected you, me, and other already junior members?

@Mormanman: So are you saying or implieng that the tester, the helpers, the people who risk their accounts for the success and furtherization of the scripter are unimportant people? That also by being any of those people they aren;t contributing to the forum or being "part" of the community? I know you said being helpful is a part of it. But helping out and being helpful is doing something. Running peoples scrpts and posting proggies is not that helpful I agree but running the scripts, posting a prog, and reporting bugs, glitches and trying to give suggestions and/or ideas for motivation purposes and for the sucess of the scripter is SOMETHING.

SRL is a scripting community - if you do not wish to script, then you better be ready to work much harder for the same benefits.

I also don't see your point. You're saying that because you have been here for a long time, yet haven't learned to script and applied to become a member nor have become an active enough contributor in other areas to earn membership automatically you should be given more "benefits"?

Truth be told, I don't care about you. I don't care about anyone who is here purely for their own gain and ready to be so blunt about it. I care about the people who want to learn and ask for help. I care about the people that put effort into something for their own enjoyment rather than for the reward. I care about the people who don't care about themselves.

Edit: slow post = lots of post before mine, added quote for clarity

spart300

2010-03-03 16:39:46

If that was hurled towards me you are misguided. I don't care much about who was here the longest. Time being here has nothing to do with how you are portrayed in this community. You could be here for 10yrs and noone would know about you. You could be here for 2 weeks and already be top scripter material. However many scripters do it for themselves. They make the scripts to become successful. When their script starts to fail and noone wants to help they let it die.

What about the people who just can't learn but none the less enjoy trying to help where they can and be part of something they never dreamed of being a part of? What is contributing to you? Just making scripts?

SO Mix if you don't mind answering this for me, I have no disagreement with what you say. However I do want to know what is your view on the people who test scripts and try to help others who are making scripts and wanting them to work.

mixster

2010-03-03 17:01:50

It was indeed not meant for you, but my distraction when writing lead to a lot of other posts in between.

However, let me point you to my last paragraph.
"I care about the people who want to learn and ask for help. I care about the people that put effort into something for their own enjoyment rather than for the reward. I care about the people who don't care about themselves."

I do not expect everyone to be perfect, I merely expect that they put effort into constructive areas if they want to be a part of the community.

We are missing the point right here. Its true I stated somewhere the argument that I am for some time member of this communitie. But if you had read more carefully you should have known that I dont saying this all because i am for a ''long'' time here. I am saying this for all Junior SRL Members who contributed here there time, effort etc. (Just read my comments better, not pointing all that again out) Its unfair that we are equal now to the people who are here for 1 one week with 10 posts. . Even RM agreed with that if I am right ?

To answer the yet havent learned to script ''

My intrest is in other area's like sound engineering. If I wanted to learn something new I used my time for my study not for scripting. Learning to script does not respond to my breeding. If it was I had my motivation.

Hopefully this is accepted here. Well I was kinda wrong, some people just dont give a shit about you anymore if your not willing to learn scripting.

Im not here to create gain. Did you ever heard me saying that. Your just almst completly misinterpreting my story.

I am here for the fun ! To spend my free time and relax. To read the threads / storys. The answer on them and to enjoy others by making a new thread. You have a wrong image of me. Well I just didnt get noticed at all. I know now I have no repetation here or maybe duoing this I created a bad one for myself. Its hard for me to say what i think in the english because I am Dutch. Okay I get that long activity is a stupid argument to substructure your story. I gave more arguments. If you read properly you shoulda know that the special rank thing just was a solution. Its not what i was looking to. But things changed now so I thought about that solution. You just could say like I disagree/think that is a bad solution …

who are you to judge that i wont get it. That is not up to you. But enough drama created here.

i luffs yeww

2010-03-03 20:01:57

Mat, have you thought this through? ;) Well I guess you wouldn't know, but there is virtually no difference in being a member. None of the member topics get much attention, and it's really not that big of a deal. And your argument about you not wanting to script and get more benefits being "accepted" here is quite absurd. This is a forum for scripting and runescape cheating with SRL. Not about studying, sound engineering, or anything of that sort. If you would like to have the title of member or whatever may please you, then you need to contribute to the forum. Which is, again, about scripting SRL. Otherwise, here's a way to make your rank more "prestigious." Soon nobody will be able to join. So you can brag to your friends about being part of the private villavu! Since this seems to all be able you not praised enough.

Sorry if that sounded harsh, but you've no argument, really. You want more acknowledgment, but there's no reason you deserve it (as far as anyone here knows). Sorry. And some people have been here for years and years and are equal to people who have just joined in the past month. And, again, longevity means nothing here. It's about knowledge and willingness to contribute, which you've neither (knowledge about scripting, not other things. :p), right? ;)

tl;dr, This is a democracy. You don't just get appointed to certain positions based on age, intelligence unrelated to scripting, sound engineering (sounds cool, by the way ^^), etc.. You get appointed if you can script well, and you contribute. Make sense? :)

It has always been that way, the one week-10 posts. You need to somehow distiguish yourself to be above them…like making a good script and applying… in order to get recognition. Or you could get cups(like the one you have).

jw, since all these new updates are happening to srl, if i ever actually want to become a member, will it be harder to become a member? also, does one have to be a jr member to apply for member (since there is 6 months or whatever before one is a jr member)?

If you're a junior member now, you won't be demoted.

And it shouldn't. ;) It might even be easier since the forum should (theoretically) become closer, so you can get more help, more friends, and thus making it easier to learn and become a better scripter. :)

Good luck.

You don't (and I'm sure won't) have to be a junior member to apply for members.

I think what Mat is trying to say is the that there should be more recognition for the few junior members that actively participates in the forum, posts feedback etc. I can name a select few Jms who does that. And its those members like Mr Doctor (a.k.a junkj :p), gratz, Mat, I luff yewws and some more… who give feedback and actually help to improve scripts.

Most lechers would go straight to download, when it doesn't work because they haven't read the instructions, starts spamming, asking how to get it to work etc etc

SRL members run a script, they find small problems, they fix it themselves and keep it that way (just generalizing)

Its only few junior members that give actual feedback example, how the walking was, banking needs tweaking etc etc. Go to the scripts section now and see what I am talking about. Even now, despite being open for all, how many Registered users or SRL members do you see providing feedbacks?

What he is trying to say is that how would they be differentiated from other junior members who for example could stay here for 6 months and leech every script they get their hands on. They would get the same title but all they would be doing is damage the community (mass abuse scripts for example).

Admins should browse the forums more and give out cups (like SRL Tester cup) to more people and maybe create a custom title for them etc. Basically encourage them by giving them something for their contribution. Something that separates testers from lechers. Agree with me or not but this community would not survive with just SRL members and lechers at least not the Runescape cheating part.

Just learning to script doesn't make people a good community member and some people don't have the time to invest in learning a programming language doesn't mean they are lechers and don't deserve respect or that they don't want to learn scripting.

Note: This wasn't aimed at anyone, I am just pointing out/clearing some stuff Mat was trying to say :)

Edit: I luff yewws, I still don't get it how you are able to use avatars (since only SRL member+ should be able to use it). Tell me!!!!!!!! :p

Another Edit: Oh and when I say feedback, I don't mean posting proggies. Posting proggies shows nothing, but when a SRL member wants some ideas for scripting those JMs (mentioned above) are the ones who gives them, they are the ones who points out small details that makes the script run longer, faster, becomes more fool proof. When a SRL member needs members accounts for scripts, they are the one who provides them, when an admin/dev wants accounts for fixing randoms, they are the ones who give them. when a random is broken, they are the ones who inform the devs, If that isn't contribution then what is? Some the JMs do a lot more than post proggies, so why shouldn't they get something in return, something that would differentiate them from rest of the members. They deserve some respect, not be shunned aside or ignored because they can't script. They are an integral part of this community.

All Junior Members can use avatars I think. ;) User CP in the top left.

And I know what you were meaning, Mat. ^^ That's just not how it works here. But it is very much appreciated by anyone who makes scripts. ;) And you can get cups. Like SRL tester. ^^ But you never know. Maybe they'll change something.

As far as I know it's member privilege to have avatars. And some cups grant it too. I had an avatar too for a little time while I was a junior but it was removed after an admin saw it :p. It was after we moved to villavu, a bug.
I thought you can have one because you are helpful and everything like that.
Why not you write a great script and apply? I think you could do that easily, can't you?

EDIT: Maybe it was changed. Idk.

I'm glad to hear that you understand it :D

We will see what the future brings, I'm happy that I made the decision to give my opinion/point of view about this subject. I hope things are more cleared up right now during all the things that were said here.

I don't know what the decision of the mods is going to be. Maybe they do something maybe they don't. Whatever their decision is going to be I will fully respect and accept it.

All I want is the best for us all.

I try as hard as I can to make a point what I pointed out above.

Well I hope you going to care about me because Im not what you think i am.

No one ever said you wasn't accepted..?
And just wondering, what do you think you'll find in members, if you need to be able to script to get in?
Oh right, code.

We do do this :) And so do Senior Members. Granted it could be "better" done, but everyone only has so much time a day and we don't always go reading all the posts as is obvious :)

I became an SRL Member when I hadn't made a single functioning script (and there have been several others as well); you don't have to be a great scripter to be an SRL Member. As somebody mentioned earlier, the difference here is that SRL is centered around programming and the programmers will get the recognition, for the most part. However, as in my case, doing enough aside from programming will be noticed and eventually rewarded.

this is confusing.
When SRL go private, will JR members still have normal access to the forums, or none at all?
I really need access to the scripting tutorials.

Well that was a good 3 page read, I don't know if the debate is over yet or not. This is how I see it simply..

You are here to;
-have fun
-work on new skills
-develop previously learnt skills
-Help out the community through things like;
~testing peoples scripts
~giving constructive Criticism
~helping out people who are lost or stuck
~develop friendships and mainly a bond with the community and the individual within it
~developing yourself as more a team player than just leeching or using scripts and
instead helping the scripter through problems and also praise them when all is well to
keep them motivated.
~etc.

Overall,
-It doesn't matter what the pixels say your rank is, its to do with how you feel you have helped the community and how other people see how you have helped them out.

You won't get seen or praised every time you do good, but for those you have helped you will be remembered by 'them', which is really what matters. There is no point having all these differen't things under your name like admin or mod if it isn't obvious that you are helping out all the time. because mainly you wont be known in return you most probably wont be respected by your peirs that don't know of you.

(the last bit was a bit of a ramble but I hope you can see the picture that I am trying to paint)

Thanks for listening!!!
