Important Changes to SRL Forums, Please Read !

RAM

2010-02-28 12:35:02

Dear All,

The staff has long reached a decision to eradicate the Free For All forums and allow everyone access to the Junior Members section. The only distinction between Registered Users and Junior Members will be, Registered users will need to be active at the SRL Forums for at least 6 months to achieve SRL Junior members status.

Along with this, other changes will be implemented. The SRL Senior Member rank will no longer be secret, but rather all Senior Members will be recognized by the Seniority title if they do not already have a custom one. In case of doubt or needed help, a Senior Member's opinion can be expected to have a considerable knowledge behind it, not to say that it will necessarily be more accurate than anyone else's.

All members are usually helpful (and I am glad to say) extremely intelligent, especially compared to some other communities, and I might add polite. Senior Members have received this status for their moderator or developer potential.

I hope you enjoy all the new scripts made readily available to you, and that the scripters enjoy the influx of testers.

In addition to posting the link of your script thread in your scripts, it has been determined that the Community as a whole will benefit greatly from records kept from our Global Statistical Variable Report Database. We ask that users register for an account and password. We ask that scripters familiarize themselves with the SRL-Stats System and implement it into their scripts. This helps to ensure some sort of feedback about their script and allows the community to see how and where other users spend their time.It is also fun and from time to time Automating competitions are sponsored
Finally, taking into account last weeks events, SRL will be going private in two weeks. Registrations will be kept open until then and aferwards we will publicly be leaving the cheating scene to remain as a group friends who share a common interest in programming. During this time we will be undergoing several changes, such as forum restructuring, widening our focus, working on SRL 5, SIMBA and Open GL Hooking.

Lots o' Love,
The Staff

Sounds all nice and as an improvement to me. I also think this will motivate more people to start scripting, and as you say "enjoy the influx of testers".

Looking good.

I always liked the idea of SRL going private again, but now that I think about it.. Idk.

What are the recent 'events' that are causing this massive decision? (owait, the other sites getting shut down? [just thought of that after typing this post])

Why are we publicly leaving the cheating scene?

Yes, the 'events' include the lawsuit to iBot/Nexus and the fine to RSBot (which was formerly based, IIRC, in the Netherlands).

EDIT: Hmm, or maybe not. Wizzup just recently stated that fear of being sued had nothing to do with it.

There's no advantages of becoming Juniors though for leechers, so I don't see why that matters. If anything they will be happy because they can get into the scripts sections right after registering.

indeed to the comment above that says pruning. Getting rid of lots and lots of unused accounts would be nifty imo.

So if you're a junior member that hasn't been here for six months, you'll be "demoted" (I know it doesn't change anything :p) to Registered User?

And I think this is a good thing to do. :3 It'll be much more.. prestigious. ^^

Oic. I mean, i realized that not everyone that was in SSRL would end up voted into mod/devship; it just surprised me since i thought of it in a different way. Then again I guess its a bit presumptuous for me to be evaluating other SSRL members.

Would anyone like to inform the general public what the plan for restructure is? If the actual roadmap for what you're doing isn't clear it will probably make it more difficult than it needs to be and it would be nice to know all of the things that are going on rather than speculating about just what people suggested.

There are some reasons for closing registration I guess, but we are not closing because we are afraid to get sued. We're just going to change stuff under the hood. Forum restructures, big changes to SRL, the upcoming Simba project, etc. It is much easier to do with no newcomers all asking the same questions about the restructure until we're actually done with it.
