So what's up with the rare holiday items like : H'ween masks, pumpkin, easter egg, disk of return ?

:surprised:.

They just don't stop rising up value. Its no fun any more…. its look like the value of GP is gaining down.

How the hell do you know when it reaches it maximum of raising ? when its just that the mountain line in the graphic has no end.

So basically here is what happend yesterday:

I own a blue h'ween mask which I bought for like 43m. I studied the graph in the G.E of the blue h'ween. I decided to sell it on max what I did because I thought it reaches his max. It stand still for like a day and I thought okay this must be the top of the mountain.

Okay I should be happy because I made a load of profit. So the next morning I looked up to see if my merch skills were right. Well I was wrong, the next morning it raised 2.2M. I thought omg how the Moses it wont stop rising :duh: I felt a little stupid for selling it maybe to early.

Well at least I have the last month some fun merchanting items :D.
Here are some pictures:

& a risky merchant below:

Last but not least a santa hat merchant :) :

I hope you enjoyed some merchant pictures and maybe I inspired a few to merchant with rares ;).

But what are you guys thinking, what is the reason that they just don't fall those days.. ?

& what is your speculation when they reached there top ?

I'm looking forward to read your response !

Ummm, because they are only getting rarer by the minute. Pretty much, any holiday item you can get your hands on, you keep that for life. No point selling em in my opinion, they're only going to keep going up.

I disagree.

In December they were climbing but in January they dropped for like 2 weeks. They do go only up in long period of time but there are moments when you can make huge profit of those times when they just go down for some time.

(Halloween mask as example)

Matsetst…I think you had better spend some time in world 2 and learn "street prices"…basically adding junk to the purchase on either side….IE, adding junk plus cash to buy an item cheaper and selling junk with an item to sell it for more expensive….seeing that Red Halloween masks are around 100m street, I would say you "Lost Out" on making a considerable more amount of money :(

Merch clans, skill and quest updates also have a considerable effect on the economy….just a few days ago when the new "staff of light" came out…everyone was selling their santa's for 24m (means I added 10m junk when buying)…now 2 days later, they are selling for 46m+(means I add 10m junk when selling)..the reason for this was partially do to a certain merch clan "dumping" them, and also people trying to get cash to buy the staff(160m first day)..

True, big pixel fortunes can be made, you just need to be well educated….it's not that hard to buy rares in the ge, you just need to be the first person to have your money in right after the ge updates (sniping)….and even though you may think you're making an impressive gain, it does take alot of time to be able to buy an item cheap in the ge, so why not maximize your profit to the extreme and sell it on the street ???….

Lol, fun I bought my Red H'ween Mask for 22m. The grand exchange is still a big failure in my opinion..

Well because of RAM's reaction I just bought a santa for 38m and I will keep it for a while. To bad I'm not a member and not really in to the street price thing.

Now it makes sense why you would be content to just sell in the ge

While member's helps, it's not needed…there is tons of F2P junk to make…for instance…get to smiting bronze plate bodies…when you have 10m worth, ask a freind to post on the forums for you and have the buyer come to your world…

Well all DISCONTINUED items will NEVER stop rising in price overall. There is a SET NUMBER of them in runescape, and it gets lower and lower early (people drop, alch, eat, quit rs) making even less of them. It just makes sense that they are going to go up in price forever. All I think you're NEVER supposed to sell discontinued items on the GE! The STREET PRICE of discontinued items is often MUCH HIGHER than the GE price! So I think you lost some good money selling it on the ge :(.

EDIT:
Here's two people who would have bought for 70M

Many people say what you just said, and I don't agree with it.

First of all, let's think of this from an economics stand point. What makes an item go up? When the demand for an item exceeds the supply of it. Now, we know the supply of rares is very constant. It doesn't change unless rares are eaten/dropped (very rarely happens I assume). But the demand can have a big affect.

Because of the item lending update, partyhats tanked hard a year ago or so. Purple got down to about 68M I believe, and now is back up to about 300M. It just all depends on demand for the item, and price manipulation. If people don't see a profit to be made in holding their rares, they will dump them, and the price will go down.

Also, inflation has a big effect on this. If the current supply of gp in the game was multiplied by 3x total, then obviously everything, along with rares, would go up a lot in price. Deflation could likely cause rares to fall in price.

Updates making people want money (to train a new skill that comes out..etc.) can make rares less desirable to hold onto, and decrease demand, thus decreasing price.

I know that's a very unorganized list of reasons :p But still, it's not such a black and white issue of rares will always rise high in the long run. Inflation has simply attributed much to the current rises, as it has done with everything else (swords, whips..etc.).

They WILL eventually crash, and probably crash hard enough people will be willing to accept a lot of junk for them.

Usually junk items consist of items being dumped by a merchanting clan and are crashing hard. So, if you got a hold of 100M in junk, chances are within a couple weeks that 100M will be worth 20M. I've sold GP for junk + real money and this has happened to me almost every time.

You got your inflation facts wrong, man. If there was 100b gp circulating the game, then all of a sudden, Jagex made 200b more gp circulate, then gp would be worth less than it is, because it's not as hard to come by. So things wouldn't be as scarce, and prices would drop. Take the German mark for example, ese.

If people had more money, they'd ne willing to pay more for items, thus causing the prices to rise.

No, I'm right.

If everybody's money was multiplied by 3, more people would have enough to buy partyhats. Since gp is worth less, that would mean items are worth more gp, so prices would all go up.

Just like in the real world… Here in the US many years ago, you could buy a cheeseburger for 1 cent, as where now it would cost more than 100 cents. 4% average inflation over that long period of time adds up.

But what I'm saying is that the worth of money goes down due to inflation..

Exactly what is being said… money is worth less, so you need MORE of it to buy things. So in turn prices go up.

When thinking of the real value of some very expensive item you should always take into account what factors affect the value. Where is all that money from? What affects the rate of which RS produces money?
If all runes, ores, bars and logs fell hard on price, it would ruin most of the common money making methods. That means that RS doesn't produce as much gold as before. This means it requires way more time and effort to gather money for a rare item, which actually means that the rare item is not worth more, eventhough the price is the same.
