Stop giving money to other countries

it's stupid; they don't need our money. Sure, they may be in poverty/developing their country. Let them fix it themselves. Let the weak die off. Sure, it sounds cruel, but it's the only thing that will stabilize the world. Only reason other countries try to help is it gives them a good image. Not because they care about them.

From: Jason2gs
I swear, Haiti got more good press than Katrina. All Katrina got was… "THE HURRICANE BLOWED US ALL AWAY BECAUSE BUSH DIDN'T FIX OUR LEVEES."
But people are here, sending all their money to Haiti – government dollars included, 100B I heard – because it makes them feel good…

my thoughts exactly harry, we have our own damn problems to deal with, and haiti was in the crapper before the earthquake

They're black. Hence they deserve all of our moneys.

See, the thing is, we are all subject to the law of natural selection. If we wish to (ultimately) survive, we cannot afford to help others, no matter how cruel it sounds. Survival of the fittest, guys.

But with the way the U.S. is going, it's gonna crash and burn soon. Just like Rome, or just like any other "highly developed" societies.

On topic: Simply giving money/food isn't a solution at all. It is a short term levee to greater problems. Actually teach the governments to stabilize and take care of their own country and provide them with some resources but now the amount we just throw out now. And America has so many domestic problems right now that I think it is responsible to cut back on foreign aid and focus on fixing the economy and working out own poverty issues.

But simply saying "Oh they're foreign, f them" isn't right.

Meh, the worlds ending in 2 years… I got 1 goal.

1. Get laid.

I can turn this into a Mayan thing. But there more likely to have another major earthquake then to A) get out of poverty. B) Have an organized government.

HAHAHAHAHAHA

more like $473,358,772 in this day and hour. That's under half a billion, and is about the same amount of money Dick Cheney stole from the US government before you re-elected his puppet Bush.

I gave ten bucks to haiti aid, not saying I make a big difference but if everyone did… waho.

I think you should value human life more.

Exactly. As I've previously stated in another thread (I don't remember what one exactly, probably one about America), it is very important to help each other. We're all part of our one and only real world, the earth. We'll just have to learn how to live with each other.

Yeaa…no.

Haiti is getting so much from the US because the US has good relations with the country. That + Obama wants to be seen as a good guy helping people in their time of 'need'

There's already way, way too many people on this planet, so it's just good if a few million die away. Oh, and barely any of the money you "donate" to any charities actually goes to helping anyone. It's just funding wars and other fun activities.

ReadySteadyGo

I think it's incredible that anyone can say things like that. If you saw a man dying in the street you would call an ambulance. Just because you're comfortable not caring about these things doesn't mean you shouldn't do anything.

I think that's what Hitler thought?

And no, whatever we donate goes to support, not wars.

Different idea. Completely. That's one man and does not actually require you to throw money at the capitalist state. And seeing something yourself is different to seeing it on TV. If I was in Haiti, I'd be helping people. But I'm not. My money won't matter will it.

It actually makes capitalist sense to support struggling countries.

Option A) You loan them money at horrible rates, but they accept as they desperately need it then you can get more than your money back over the years

Option B) You help the country get on its economical feet then it starts becoming a strong trading partner

Also, Katrina is as stupid example. The US can produce enough money to help itself after natural disasters that affect small areas of the entirety - how can you expect a small, failing country to do the same?

To be completely honest and racist, I think this is a typical American view - it seems the US produces people with capitalist burnt so much into them it turns them into people who only care about money to the point where it blurs their own morality. What's worse is it seems this idea is spreading due to a world wide recession that started with them…

Exactly.

Torrent of Flame, yes it is a different idea, that's the point I was making. Just because it's not shoved under your nose, doesn't mean you shouldn't try to help. I think this is frankly a ridiculous thread? It's critisizing people who care and are providing aid?

Providing aid? No, your throwing money at people who could build Haiti from scratch if the money actually went there and not into their bonus' etc

No, he thought white people are superior to all other races, and that all other races should be wiped out (especially the jews) including gay and disabled people and whatnot.. Hitler's ideologies have nothing to do with what I said, at all… I wouldn't have expected to see you pulling out the good old nazi card.

Oh, and of course all of the money goes to support.. Like the billions poured into africa which has succeeded in doing.. Not much really. Just more money for "leaders" to use for killing their people or tribes/religions to fight each other.

Of course it's a nice idea that everyone would have food and water and a nice life, but that's just not realistic. Most people on this planet live in poverty and horrible conditions and that's how it's going to be.

The best we can be expecting after throwing tons and tons of money to Haiti is seeing a tiny part of the population get really rich in a short amount of time and the general populations quality of life remain the same.

Of course I would. Not only because I would be legally obligated to do so, but if I didn't it'd partially be my fault if the man died.

Wow… People can be very selfish.
Every single person in the world could have plenty of good food to eat and a decent house and health care if world's resources were given equally to everyone.

Selfishness and greed will drive human race to destruction one day…
People like you are the reason why this world sucks so much.

Is this a thread about donating to poor countries after natural disasters or a thread about corruption?

Dervish

2010-01-30 11:33:09

You don't actually believe that all the money which ads want you to send to "the poor people in africa" or to "give a child a correct life" actually goes to those people you are donating huh ?

Most actually goes to the government or some other leech.

GoF is right, there are too many people on this earth, why not get rid of a few ?
We're not getting rid of them though, they are getting rid of themselves coming with problems and shit about religion and war.

So unstable countries shouldn't exist…

I mainly meant that the Government shouldn't give the tax-payer money out. If people want their money going there, that's their choice…….

mixster

2010-01-30 14:52:52

It's your government - should have voted for a party with a less foreign-friendly stance when it comes to natural disasters.

Also, some charities do put nearly every penny towards to the end goal. Not everyone can get everything right - at first, people thought they could give it to governments until they found out how corrupt they were. Then they started using it to give food to villages etc until they found out they some villages sold the food for money or they were raided and left without food again. Then they started working on making a sustainable sauce of food, water or the like - ie building wells. Not all charities are 100% efficient, but most of the bigger ones are pretty far along. It may be worth researching a claim that charities are bad before you make it.

Every animal is born hungry, constantly afraid, constantly locked in a never-ending struggle for life, carrying out the instructions of its gene masters like a computer program.

I see our studies of evolution as a warning. If we're not careful we'll become like our genes.

Surely we can use our intelligence and morals give to us by evolution to realise that we can act in our own interests, not the interests of our genes.

In the end the party with the most votes won and so the government is only acting upon its policies that people voted in. If you have any problems, it should be that the US doesn't have a democracy - you just get pick your own dictator out of 2 people and parties.
