Well I've been researching around lately what all the popular ways of runecrafting are.

So far I've gathered that

Water crafting DB -> Swamp is good
Water crafting DB -> Swamp -> Glory is good
Law crafting with balloons from Castle wars (some please explain what balloons are) is good
Maybe water crafting from Lost city bank -> swamp?
Fairy rings (I'm no where near 57 herb or 49 farming though) for nature
Abyssal crafting is good

Is there anything else in particular?

And does anyone even walk from db to law temple anymore or even from shilo village to nature altar for that matter?

You don't need to complete the quest to gain access to the fairy rings. You just need to start it and progress a little bit through the quest and you can use them from that point onward.

For nature rune crafting, using a Spirit Graahk works pretty well.
