I doubt his will go down.

Ben this stuff is quite a ways over my head. It is interesting to look at and try to link it all together. The reflection stuff is very nice.

Right now I am learning off the stuff I understand. Color.cpp is a nice start.

Thanks again!

Can't be in SCAR, since SCAR isn't Open Source.

Can we stop bringing this up? SCAR isn't going to be open sourced, and whining about it isn't gonna change anything. Besides, that's why Simba is being developed, as an open-source alternative to SCAR.

I really don't care what you or anybody else thinks.
He has stated that he doesn't want to make it open source because he "can handle it"..he also said that he has hardly any time to work on it any more, so he should do the smart thing and make it open source.
Now I also understand that Kaitnieks passed it on to him with trust that he wouldn't share it with anybody else. He has said that he still has contact with Kait, so he could talk to him and come to an agreement.

Anyways, it doesn't matter whether or not if he releases it, as SIMBA will probably be used instead once its released and stable.

Don't take this as me bashing Freddy, hes done a great thing and is a big part of the cheating scene. I actually love SCAR, but I believe it would be better to make it open source and it would improve it greatly.

Suggesting someone is egotistical, a liar and disregarding their beliefs - it would be more accurate to ask how is it not bashing him. Bringing your opinion into where it doesn't belong - a completely unrelated topic - is a silly thing if you aren't ready to defend your opinion.

hey guys sorry if this is a stupid thought cuz i'm kinda new but.. isn't this kinda bad cuz now jagex can basically see how smart works and maybe be able to better detect people using it?

No way to detect it and if they do, they cannot do anything about it since third party clients are allowed as long as they don't offer an advantage. Although SMART offers an advantage to the extent of allowing a minimized applet running, it doesn't give the actual player and advantage as far as world hopping and such.
So tl;dr, no (as far as I know..).

acureon

2010-01-13 23:35:07

but but but but see they might use it to detect people using smart and put them in their red flag list because majority of smart users are obv using it to use scripts made to cheat :O correct?

Sex

2010-01-14 00:00:15

They can never be entirely sure. They must be fair. They can't differentiate between using it to macro and playing legit as far as I can tell..I'm not an expert at this though, haven't macroed or anything RS-related in a long time.

It masks itself as another client anyways, too lazy to check but I think its FireFox.

Wow, that got me thinking about Simba too.
If Simba and SMART are both open sourced, wont Jagex be able to easier detect our methods?

Yes they will.

How will it be easier for them? As long as we aim to simulate the perfect 'player' there is no way for them to distinguish simba/smart from a normal rsplayer.

They could read the code? :P

Like RID, they keep everything hidden from JaGeX and then they go brag about their "undetectability" because it's closed source

bullzeye95

2010-01-14 07:47:18

The scripts are already open source. What could they possibly learn by looking at, say, the source of FindColor?

Nava2

2010-01-14 09:56:44

Even the input functions, they don't just *simulate* they are the exact same as real mouse clicks etc.

To be honest, there is not really to worry about open vs. closed.

Look at RSBot for example.

LOL. Where does Jagex ever state that they will be "fair" to suspected cheaters, and what recourse does a player have if they decide not to be "fair"?

I think jagex clapped in their small hands when SMART went opensource.
Isn't it much easier for jagex to make an update which will eventually ruin SMART now that they know how it's put toggether?

I'm sure if there was anything that could be done, it would have been done already or could of been done with out the source. It's like saying they could kill SCAR by making all the pixels in runescape the color 0 so bitmaps wouldn't work anymore although then runescape would become an overcomplicated blank screen.

mixster

Smart is virtually unbreakable by updates, especially now there is access for any who wished to fix it if it did break somehow. There is just about no way to break it without majorly going out their way - I believe the last time it broke was due to Jagex moving around a file they use to generate the applet params.

Recompile it with your modifications, then stick it in your plugins folder, instead of the old dll.

Hello again,

You've already been warned about this. Stop grave digging and posting one word (useless) posts. The SMART section & others, do not need any more useless posts. There's already enough posts asking for help that are being hidden by yours. It doesn't help anyone, including you. If you do get banned, you'd have to start all over again anyway. Try to avoid that.

See here: https://villavu.com/forum/faq.php?faq=welcome

Spam:
Please avoid spamming the forum with useless posts. At SRL, we value reputation above post count. If your post does not contribute positively to the ongoing topic, then please refrain from posting it as it is most likely spam. Repeating the same question in multiple sections without waiting for an answer is also spam.

Cheers.
