i was just wondering… i have many functions which i think would be usefull… i mean, i think there should be a formal application or something… so other ppl can contibute to SRL… not just inspire ppl.;)

That would be cool. Although it would get so much stuff and the devs would have to look through it all. Even the devs have stuff that doesn't make it. On the bright side, you can post your stuff, and if people like it they can use it.

Well, all you need to do is post in the SRL New Functions, and have a script WORTHY of implementing into SRL, then it will get put in..Thats all

i dont think they really put those in srl unless it's revolutionary…

You need to be
active
helpful
nice (maybe)
make scripts
possibly make some tuts
be good at scripting ect ect
If you do these things, and do them well enough, then you will be noticed and dev-i-fied.

Most changes to SRL seem to be bug fixes and updates. The last thing I remember being added was a world detector function, since Jagex added the world to the friends tab. This doesn't take super-special skill to add. There are plenty of non-Devs that could do it.
One of the big breakthroughs for SRL 3.6 came from a non-Dev, that being fixing the box solver to work on slow comps. I wrote most of the autocolor stuff before I was a Dev. And what did I do with it then? I didn't petition for it to be added. I just posted my findings in a thread about walking around RS. Frankly, I felt like it was being ignored at the time, and I thought it was pretty important.
At the time, RadialRoadWalk already updated the roadcolor as you walked, so there was not a huge NEED for a roadcolor finder. But I thought my way did it better and more reliably, and I thought it was an improvement over anything available at the time. Even so, my autocolor functions are kind of rough, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if someone comes up with a simpler, faster, better solution for the same thing and makes my stuff obsolete. Same for the compass function I wrote. I wrote it up because the compass wasn't working. It works, but it's kind of a rough approach.
To give you a little perspective, when I first became a Dev I was like, "Now what?"
What do you do once you can add stuff to SRL? One of the more senior devs told me to just keep scripting and if I saw something that was lacking for an important function to try to solve it. So, the best way to contribute is simply keep scripting. When you do that you will find areas of SRL that have flaws or are lacking important functions, and maybe you can even fix them yourself. I hope everyone that wants to contribute something to SRL is making regular contributions to the buglist. That is an area that you can definitely make an impact. And if you come up with something new and exciting, use it yourself and tell other people about it that may be facing the same thing you were when you wrote up your new code.
Tara am i involved in this story?
But yeah. No offence but lardmaster if it isnt revolutionary then is it worthy. If its just something that would only bloat srl then is it worth?

i could find half a million SRL functions that arent revolutionary… whataver, the point of this wasnt that i wanted to become a dev…

SRL was made by combining a bunch of different includes. A lot of functions and procedures are left over from the original ones from old includes. The Dev team has tried to keep SRL as clean as possible by moving less useful code into the xIncludes. We don't just delete it because we want SRL to be backwards compatible with old scripts.
For new additions you don't need to just write something that's better some random obsolete function in SRL. You need to write something that's as good or better than other things being added now.
I guess there isn't a good mechanism for telling Devs "Hey, I have something important here". When stuff is posted to New Functions I usually go take a look at it, so that is one place to put stuff to have it get seen.

I have added functions before that were posted in the "Snippets," or "New Functions" forums. They just need to be very useful, and as Pyro said, if it's not needed, why add it? SRL Development has been slowing lately, but it isn't because we are not active. There are plenty of scripting Dev's, but everything is going so smooth now that SRL is at a peak.
I remember when I was a Non-dev and I made a couple functions that were added to SRL. Bebemycat2 is the SRL Librarian (added user functions to SRL,) and she added to of my procedures. They probably wouldn't be added now, but that's because we now realize how full SRL is. Infact I was told that they weren't looking to add anymore Antiban functions, and that was 6 months ago.. The procedures I made were probably never used in a script that wasn't mine, infact I may even remove them for space..
BoredWhileFlagExistsDist, and RemainItems were two functions I remember being added to SRL.. I think the SRL's major priorities have changed, we aren't really looking for new functions/procedures unless there revolutionary. We're just trying to make SRL better by making it more and more stable. I think the main reason I became a developer was because I spotted and fixed bugs in a couple of the important SRL AntiRandom functions. Those are the things that SRL needs now and strives towards.

You hit it right on the head Cheese, SRL is to large as is the more we add the more it will lag is the theory. Our primary focus is loosing useless functions and bug repairs nowadays.

ok, sry, i wasnt aware that that was the goal… in that case, i will try to do more bugfixes than new material.
