Hey everyone whats up?

Anything that I could help with?

just loled at this :

Though the method developed by SRL is commonly referred to as “cheating”, it is completely legal. It does not infringe on any copyrights. In fact, SRL is the only accepted method of automating game-play within all legal bounds

I thought it was illegal?
No I'm not joking either.

I am pretty sure an automated click, one not from a human, on a site can be considered a DoS attack… right? It may not be what you are trying to do, but it can be considered a DoS attack.

but back to why I posted this… Anything I can help with?

How in the world could an automated click be construed as a denial of service attack??

Anyways, hi. :)

Well, suppose we filled a world with our automatic clickers?
For every one slot we fill in an otherwise full world, we deny service to a legitimate player.

Automatically clicking on a website and playing RuneScape with an autoclicker are vastly different.

not by much :p.

Any sort of request to a website made with a computer that is not legit (meaning not from a human) can be considered a DoS attack :p.

with this click you are still sending info to their servers … its just that your main goal is to not take them offline lol.

OS/AV/etc automatic updates = DoS?

If you have permission to do it, then it's fine.

read my post "can be considered a DoS attack".
lol.

We consume some resources from whatever site we use and auto clicker on.
If the request is made from a computer without permission, it can be labeled as an attack.

It's only a DoS if it affects usability. IE, they'd need to bullshit their way out of that one to actually get anything done about it.

well on runescape it does.

you are taking up a player slot on the server.
you are on for hours at a time (more then a human).

I am just saying it can be considered a DoS attack.

and in a really twisted way… people who make scripts and give them out to people are the main attackers and if lots of people use it, then its a DDoS.
The attacker just does not have control of their "botnet"… lol

that idea is really twisted, but the DoS attack one is not to far fetched one.

It is not considered a DoS attack.

A denial-of-service attack (DoS attack) or distributed denial-of-service attack (DDoS attack) is a attempt to make a computer resource unavailable to its intended users.

171 worlds available and there is at most ever 200,000 players online total.

That would mean 142000 more botters than there are currently would have to exists to accomplish that goal, which is impossible.

Either way, the person botting can be considered a legitimate player as macroing is not outlawed by any governments I am aware of.

A DoS or DDoS attacks can defiantly fit what we are doing :p.
Taking the RS servers offline is not within our goals at all.
We want them to stay online.
We do use up resources for the servers.
granted if they ever tried to claim we DoS them, it would be shoot down…
We do not intentionally attack them, but it still can be considered an attack.

You're the only person I've ever encountered trying to even claim rs macroing can be considered a DoS attack by any standard, if you're going to make such claims you should probably find an actual source for your reasoning i.e. google DoS and find an article to support your claim. Otherwise by that logic almost anything could be considered a DoS attack.

Alright I'll look for an article.
Gimme a bit… I guess.

What is a denial-of-service (DoS) attack?

In a denial-of-service (DoS) attack, an attacker attempts to prevent legitimate users from accessing information or services. By targeting your computer and its network connection, or the computers and network of the sites you are trying to use, an attacker may be able to prevent you from accessing email, websites, online accounts (banking, etc.), or other services that rely on the affected computer.

I bolded what I thought was important… lol.

We do not attempt or purposelessly prevent legitimate users from access information or services. We might be without even know it though.

We do target mainly runescape.

We may be able to prevent services offered on the affected computer.
(IE, there are enough people who use scripts to fill a server or two… so we could essentially take over a while server. not allowing others to access it.)
Rough example I know.

It is the matter of interpretation. I can say that we may be in a grey area here.

Honestly though, I already pasted that exact same quote in the thread. You still haven't shown a connection between computer side macroing and DoS

HIYA, I thought I saved your image when I flipped it, but I can't seem to find it on my comp, but here is a few links I found on the web….

lol well well RAM…

I guess that one can do as a good temp….

Ill find something or make one later.

I would say intent is the key. Macroers intend to use the game rather than prevent others from using it, much like accidentally killing someone is much less serious crime/incident compared to purposefully assassinating someone.

You'd need to be bribing said judge to get anything done.

Dark_Sniper

2009-12-28 21:22:05

Do you think it would be hard for people with money to bribe a judge?

or maybe they have an army of assassins holding the judge's family hostage.

Or maybe the judge is crazy. lol

who knows lol.

I'm confused as to why you're pushing this DoS attack so bad

Dark_Sniper

I wasn't meaning to lol.
It just kind of happened that way.
It's not that important anyway.
