Idea for finding NPC more efficiently

Ok this is incredibly hard to explain, so here's a pic that will hopefully help.
The purpose of this is to make finding NPC's better and finding NPC that are you cannot see on the main game screen and NPC's behind you.

What if scar looked on the minimap for a yellow dot and seen how far away it was from the center (white dot = you). Then it could look for it on the main screen and it would be way faster in finding the NPC. If it were to the south of you (white dot) then it could turn the camera , search on the minimap for a yellow dot and see how for away it is. Now that is the Y Axis. For searching on the X- Axis, scar would search for the dot left or fight of you and if you combined that with the y - axis search, then it would be able to pinpoint exactly where the NPC is. This may be just a big complicated way finding NPC's, but it may also help.

i get the idea but im not sure if it would work well with scar.. good idea tho..

It is easy to compare the different on the Minimap from the white dot to yellow. But then moving it onto the game client to click would take some more math. (Ben ;)).

If you only want to find 1 NPC and it looks on the Minimap for another one, it could click the wrong one. If theirs uptext, FindObj is still quicker.

I like the idea though.

it can be done. In fact I did it sometime ago whilst creating the Gentleman Autominer, that would turn to another rock if there was a White Dot at it. All it requires is he relation between the click distance on the mainscreen and the Minimap. Good suggestion.

One problem with the detection though: how would you detect more then one Yellow Dot? I usually just plant the flag near the first yellow dot on the minmap and click on the wanted color if it mathes IsUpperText

BTW: wonderful explanation. TY

i tried this once, like 1 minimap pixel is equal to 7 mainscreen pixels or so

its good for getting within 50 pixels or so, but if you look at the main screen, its isometric, so the closer tiles are bigger than the farther tiles, even on the highest camera setting

if someone found out the camera angle, yes, you could do some math to improve it, but there is still slopes, etc, so its just an approximation

Grr.. Please don't pretend you had this idea. This thread only surfaced after my post yesterday about mini-map to screen and this was exactly what I was talking about.
My theory was that we use a grid system (like the co-ords for the inventory) to give the script some idea where to start looking for an npc (or a door or whatever), just a place to start the colour spiral or whatever you please.
Because the camera is not always going to be perfectly alligned north, it is a good idea to just use co-ordinates. Like masquerader said, it would just be an approximation.

P.S. Grrrr! =.=

I thought find color spiral, was real detectable? Also, I did have this idea.

Why do people think FindColorSpiral is detectable? It isn't… Where did that rumour come from?

I'm thinking because it always chooses the closest color to your x and y (or whatever you define those coords as). You could bypass that by setting different places for it to spiral from, but it's definately better than FindColor.

Well because it doesn't use tolerances. If you didn't pick the colour then you would have problems.
I prefer tolerances because you won't always click the same colour, but you can always just use FindColorSpiral and just move the mouse to co-ords within a few pixels of the colour.

Yeah ok reflex.. You can have it if you want. When will you be completing the procedure, by the way?

Why don't you believe me and why do you have a negative attitude twords me?

Krazy_Meerkat

Hmm.. I believe the negative attitude was brought about simply because:
1. I post about mini-map to mainscreen
2. The next day you suddenly have a brilliant idea (that you came up with yourself, you tell me) which is mini-map to mainscreen for npc's.
I'm not too fussed about the idea.. But you have angered me by claiming credit for it. You were also a junior member at the time, and you have not released a single script or procedure, in fact nearly all of your threads were asking for help in understanding scripting.
It's not really a big deal that you want to use the idea, go ahead. But please don't stand there and tell me and everyone else that you came up with it. You clearly looked at my thread and thought you were adapting my idea or something, the fact is that they are both the same thing and you posted yours so soon after (I assume) you read my post.
Don't try and dodge my question too, where is your procedure? Were you ever planning to do this yourself or was your idea to have someone else do it?
Using someone else's idea and making someone else do all the work while retaining credit? That's low.
I hope this explains my attitude towards you, I don't have to like you and your actions dictated this one. The next time you decide to post an idea claiming credit for the light-bulb, be prepared for negative comments.
If you had written a line saying that you saw my post about mm-ms and think this is what it should be used for, I probably would have given you a very positive response.
Consider yourself lucky, if I hadn't spoken with some important friends about certain things, I would have vented all of my frustration on you. Please don't push it

Krazy, in your other thread which you think is relevent to this idea, it's nothing like this idea really.

Don't start flame wars, Fakawi wants clean forums. Don't anger Mr. Fakawi man! :p

I'm not going to make it, simply because I don't know how. If I did know how, I would. No hard feeling twords ya, I understand where your coming from, but you shouldn't accuse me of trying to steal your idea, when infact like kane said, it's almost entirely different. So lets just end this fight.

I also had a few other ideas for procedures, like minimap-to-screen.. Where a position on the minimap would have a corresponding mainscreen co-ordinate in a grid (like inventory co-ords)

You tell me how these two ideas differ? The main implications of mm-ms were for finding bank booths, doors, npc's. =.= I won't even bother anymore, it's just brought too much controversy about. I like you kane, I just don't like the way you have handled certain things. Please don't treat me any differently now. Oh, by the way… You telling me not to start flame wars?!? We all know your track record with xerxes dude. I don't want tension between us over anything you may have taken the wrong way.

Reflex, I'm not looking to start any fights. I was trying to make my opinion clear.. I appologise for making you feel bad (if I did)… I hope we can forget about this incident.
