The EU as the greatest economic superpower is shown by having:

  • 14 of the top 20 banks in the world;
  • 178 of the top companies of the world as measure by the Global Fortune 500 (the U.S. has 140);
  • a homicide rate that is 1/4 that in the U.S.;
  • the 18 most developed countries in Europe all have more broader wealth distributed than the U.S.(the U.S. ranks 24th in the world);
  • higher life expectancy than the U.S.;
  • higher literacy rates than the U.S.;
  • Higher quality of life than the U.S.
Also, Europeans provide 47% of all the humanitarian aid in the world.

It is also the largest exporter , and largest importer of goods and services, and the biggest trading partner to several large countries such as India and China. the gini index for the EU was estimated at 0.31, as a comparison the USA has 0.463, a surprising result since the EU has virtually no interstate income redistribution power and poorer new member states joined in 2004.

inb4 don't compare a continent to a country - the EU is a single economic entity, just like the US.

Yup thats true. Even though the Dollar has been making a rebound the past week, gaining like 2% ish and a 3 month high against the Euro.

However since America loves going to war and invests all its money into war's, the Dollar wont go anywhere.

Good to hear it. That means the EU can fund all the global warming reforms.

The UN says that would be $45 trillion, the Center for Environmental Justice says $24 trillion.

Let's just split the difference and let the EU pony up $35 trillion and call it good.

Looks like it, and I think that is because of it's diversity. Decisions aren't randomly made, wars aren't randomly started, etc. There's is no "one" person in charge. More like a ``circle of wise men'', I like that. Even though quite some of them don't appear too `wise' to me. :)

@Tara: Just a random thought, how much has the US spent on the "War against terror"?

for every ammo dump we destroy, we save hundreds.

What? Sir, Iraq had nothing to do with the "terrorist" attacks of 9/11 and we've spent nearly 1 trillion dollars in Iraq for no good reason what so ever.

And whats taking us so long to catch Osama bin Laden? Its almost been 9 years since we went into Afghanistan. Plus America has nukes. If those terrorists really could come to America dont you think will probably do some nukes like we did with japan in 1949-ish.

When you go to war you DO kill innocent people. So apparently you have no cost on human life and you should be shot.

but before you go flying off the handle bars just remember that the us is only spending about 5% of our GDP on military expenditures and is about on par with cyprus and greece, which are members of the eu. i couldnt really find a source that compared the eu to the us but, i can imagine it cant be more than a percent off of the us' budget/gdp. and dont even get me started on the middle east.

http://www.google.com/publicdata?ds=wb-wdi&met=ms_mil_xpnd_gd_zs&idim=country:CYP:GRC:USA&tstart=567993600000&tunit=Y&tlen=20

and at the OP: people really shouldnt be pointing the finger at eachother, I agree, the size of our military budget is horrific, there are so many things that could be done with it rather than sending poor young men off to foreign lands to what basically amounts to picking on third world countires and to die or come back with ptsd/or crippling injuries. you have to realize that you cant just place the blame on america and just not fix your shit. you should lead by fucking example if you want things to change. write to your commisar or whatever the hell you have over there, and get involved. not just come down on high like you're god damned moses coming back from the mountaintop or something and hand down life lessons to us fucking sinners in the us.

1. Source
2. What about the thousands of innocent lives lost in war? Civilians and soldiers alike.
3. What about the effect of all the deaths on immediate families, friends and public morale?

You're also forgetting the reason the US invaded afghanistan - assuming 9/11 wasnt an inside job, and the supposed vids from osama are not false, then it was because of america's involvement in places they dont belong in the first place that the war started.

If you think war has a net decrease on the amount of pain and suffering in the world you are wrong (apart from in extreme cases like genocide, but no one really cares about genocide, so don't use the jews in WW2 as an example - look at what happened in Rwanda)

Edit - Unless by "terrorist" you mean the US warlord George Bush and his willing cronies, and you're not using it as a simple blanket term for all the people killed in afghanistan/iraq that you have been tricked into using by years of media propaganda

I didn't say the two were connected.
The biggest problem to hit our economy would be trying to help out in Eurasia. We were pretty isolated when WW I happened, we got rich by selling military equipment. Eventually we actually got involved, after the war we went into recession.
Same with WW II, but it resulted in the Great Depression.
Now we're trying to stop terrorism and fix all the problems in Iraq, and our economy is suffering. The US needs to just stop caring about the European and Asian conflicts.

The US started a war on "terror" so they could suck oil and other resources from the Middle East. I don't see how it relates to Europe and Asia.

The war on terrorism got us over there, and now we're trying to solve all the problems there are. i.e. Sunni-Shiite relations.

My "stop caring" statement was poorly worded, I mean to say that we really shouldn't be throwing our economy into the filled portable toilet at every conflict we can. Right now we should be focusing on our own country, improving quality of life, creating more panels to harness solar energy, etc. before we swirl ourselves into even more trillions of dollars in debt.

America is a Christian nation. The conflicts between the Sunni and Shiite's should not be America's problem. The problem with America is that it simply cannot mind it's own business. If it really DID care about the world it would start off with Africa.

America is almost at war with 4 nations:
Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan. If the war between Iran got serious then I think it should be the down fall of America since it CANNOT afford it.

R0b0t1

Actually, if it cared about the world it'd go fuck with China and make them get their shit straight about green technology. THEN, once the technology exists, we go develop Africa the right way so we don't have to do it over.

^ This. There is no war on terror. The war is against the Iraqi people. More innocent men, women and children have been killed than terrorists by far, and they weren't killed by Iraqis.. It's not a war, it's the murder of civilians, in my opinion, the real terrorists are the soldiers responsible for those deaths. There are far more real terrorist threats over here in the west than there are in the middle-east. Maybe we need another civil war? I think not.

However, we shouldn't get into an argument over which is the better country/continent/group of countries. Europe is superior in many ways to America, just as America is in many ways superior to Europe. I'm from England but I openly admit that England has made as many mistakes as the US, if not more. We have a ridiculously inept government, along with several huge failures, such as our education system and our media. On the plus side, we do have the NHS - and although it has it's flaws, when that day comes when you need free health-care, you see just why the NHS really is good. America is working towards the decriminalisation and legalisation of Cannabis, which will be a huge step forward when it finally happens, however over here in the UK the opposite is happening, and media bias is pushing the government to make stupid decisions, such as the sacking of their own drug czar, who himself said that Cannabis is far less dangerous than cigarettes or alcohol and that the legislation should reflect this.

There are two "real" countries in this world. Babylon, which is all of civilisation where laws and money are present, this form of society is full of corruption, evil deeds, and general fallacies. Zion on the other hand is the few parts of the world that have managed to keep themselves away from this, and have remained isolated and untouched. It is through love and friendship that those who still wish to be a part of Zion manage to break free from modern society and do just that. Arguing over which part of Babylon is the best/worst is like arguing over which murderer you'd trust to babysit your children, the answer is none.

A stereotype is a assumption that every single person of that class is the same, in this case most people stereotype that every US citizen is bad, which is not the case. It is just certain people, and with the large amount of industry in the US, this causes all the greenhouse gasses. I'm not bashing the US, I'm just saying what the world-wide stereotype is.
